I think the judges gave the edge to GSP because his win record is so notable and he's the champ. They don't wanna be seen as screwing the champ/record with a close decision.
All 3 judges agreed that Hendricks took 2 and 4, and GSP took 3 and 5. The only dispute was round 1. 2 judges thought GSP took that round. It's really easy to let emotions, Joe Rogan, and physical damage cloud your judgment of a fight. Based on the scoring criteria, it was a very close fight, had it been in the street, Hendrix would have won. Not saying I agree with the decision (I need to re-watch round 1) but complaining it was a total robbery is wrong.
Why does Hendrixs' take down weigh so much? GSP had 4 to Hendrixs' 2...

I think that the only reason that there is controversy it that GSP shows damage like nobody else in the UFC, and Hendrix barely shows it. All hose little red blemishes on GSP wouldn't show up on Hendrix because of their respective skin tones. If GSP looked as unscathed as Hendrix, there would be no complaining.

If a fight is pretty equal a take down would take precedence as it shows control. Much like it did in round 3.
Hendricks took GSP down in rounds 1 3 and "4". While they say it was a slip, johnny sweeped his leg as he was rolling back. Might have been a slip but he still tripped him too. Could be considered a takedown.
GSP took Johnny down in rounds 1 and 5.
Also, i mentioned nothing about his face and while it could be an indication - it wouldn't matter as johnny clearly had more rounds, just not to the judges.

I'm not arguing who won, I'm arguing that it was a lot closer than people give credit for. And anyway it Hendrix's fault for the result, a swell as his corner, who basically told him to coast. (he was gassed, too of course) but if he wanted to win decisively, he should have poured it on.

I haven't seen the fight so not commenting on that. But as someone who's been watching since UFC 1, IMO the worst rule that was adopted was to copy boxing's scoring system. I watched the documentary so I understand how it happened but boxing's, and now MMA's, scoring system is the worst in all of sports. The only excuse for not posting the scores after each and every round is so that someone can cheat. How frickin hard is it for each judge to post his/her score publicly after each round so we know exactly what the score is going into the final round? It's one of those things that makes so much sense without a single logical argument against that it just baffles me how it just stays the same.

I kinda like it... it's definitely not ideal for deciding a fight, but I get a thrill out of waiting for the call on a close match. But you are right, it needs to change.
Great fight but how does that end up a draw? Bigfoot won the first with a knockdown and clearly won the 4th. Hunt clearly won rounds 3 and 5 so the winner should come down to who you thought won round 2. The only thing I can come up with is the judges who scored it a draw gave round 2 to Hunt and then scored the 4th as 10-8 for Bigfoot. I was thinking Hunt needed to take BF out in the 5th to get the win and in the end I was right but I didn't see a draw coming. Did I ever mention how lame I think this scoring system is

This is one I am not willing to complain about. You are totally correct in you observation, and I agree with you, but those 2 dudes left absolutely everything in thing in that cage. Neither one of the deserve an L for that performance. So I am willing to turn a blind eye to how it ended up a draw, because in my opinion, a draw is a very satisfying result for that slug fest.

A South African middleweight MMA fighter named Booto Guylain died earlier today, from head injuries he suffered during a TKO loss to Keron Davies last Thursday at EFC Africa 27. Guylain was 29 years old, and very new to the sport, as his only other pro fight was a previous TKO loss at EFC Africa 25 in November.
The fight that claimed Guylain’s life ended like so many others in MMA — with Guylain on his back sustaining a series of elbow strikes from Davies, who was in full mount. According to a news brief released by EFC Africa after the fight, Guylain was stabilized by the on-site medical team immediately afterwards and transported to the Johannesburg General Hospital, where he was treated for swelling and bleeding on the brain.
However, the South African MMA website PrettyTuff reported that Guylain’s medical treatment was delayed “because he does not have medical aid and [because of] the long process involved in admitting a patient into a busy government facility in South Africa.” At some point, Guylain lapsed into a coma, and died today despite the efforts of a neuro-surgical team.
“We are devastated,” said EFC Africa president Cairo Howarth. “This is a huge loss to the sport and to all who know him. Our thoughts are with his family in this trying time.” ONEPLAN, EFC Africa’s disability partner, will provide financial support to Guylain’s wife and son.
Deaths in professional MMA competition are an incredibly rare occurrence, thankfully, although the MMA community has recently lost fighters to weight-cutting and heart conditions. In May 2012, an amateur fighter named Dustin Jenson died due to an unrelated blunt-force trauma following an unregulated MMA event in South Dakota.
Our thoughts are with Guylain’s family during this tragic time.
