The first official day of the RU 2013 Championship has begun. The top ten so far:

Jack Bando is looking to do better than his 9th from last year, and is redirecting more of his RU time towards this. Cheetah is starting off strong in an effort to do better than his 23rd from last year. RevJ is in the top 10 again after last years 7th. Another repeat performer is Bearhawk, trying to top his 12th from 2012. Rounding out the top 5 is Kong, holding the same spot he finished with. The new face in this top ten is Sonic Vinny

Absent from the polls are inaugural winner Barra, perhaps waiting until the rules were set in stone. Runner up Seahawk is also missing, but that may not be for long. The other big name missing is *whisper* Elrod (It's bad luck to say his name out loud. The last guy who did found all 6 of his first place scores had become second by morning. He only had 5 firsts...)

Will I get anything if I get 2nd place? Will I get anything for the month of January or is there a way I could win something online? I've never won anything before online. I was hoping this would be a cool site for me to win something maybe. :-). I've been still recommending lots of people to this site to play on! :-).

Street Fighter 3, 3rd strike is in my opinion the best fighting game of all time. It's not currently on the site, but if it could be added...
Aside from that I've always enjoyed the alpha series. So, SF3 third strike, SF3 double impact, SF 3 new generation, SF alpha 3... failing all those (none are on the site) then really any other coin-op SF, or the NA version of the one that is up there now.

Karate Champ? I just don't play fighting games so I can't really suggest much. Combat School is a pretty cool game but only part of the game is really a fighting game. Combat School - Arcade/Coin-Op - Score Board

I would like to throw in a last minute rule suggestion. I think we should have a minumum games played requirement for your scores to count. The reason for this is to remove the scores from people who really aren't playing in the tournament. Someone may discover RU later in the year and submit a really good score on one of the games and not even know the game was in the tournament. It's my opinion that peoples scores who don't want to or can't participate in the tournament should not influence the outcome. You could make it real easy and just say you have to submit scores on five of the games before your scores count or you could do like what TG used to do for their DECA tournaments and require people to submit scores on every game before they are eligible for winning. I prefer the easy requirement so I don't have to play some of the games I don't enjoy and would only score 1 point on anyways.

Forcing someone to submit scores in all games might not work because those of use out there with older computers might not reach the minimum frame rate on some of those games.

Remember you can't change difficulty settings in games when submitting scores. That means leave MVC on default settings - Manual and Turbo.

I like the selection of games this year, and there's a couple of anecdotes I wanted to share -

* The "layer 10/12 contact Mamedev" messages are a known issue with Quiz & Dragons. They don't effect the game. However some of the answers are incorrect, eg Is Canada really the biggest country in the world? Also, Spielberg has won an Academy Award since the game was made... Quiz & Dragons: Capcom Quiz Game - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia lists some other apparent errors.

* Here's a flyer link for Lock 'n' Chase - http://flyers.arcade-museum.com/?pag...d=4312&image=1 - but why have their hats all changed colour? And why is Stiffy (the red policeman) pulling such a funny face??

(Maybe he's seen Frogger jump on his lady friend, or perhaps he's seen some sexualised Giger imagery in one of the Aliens games? I know I have.)
