All right, I'm getting started.
I'll take progress checks at the end of each Minecraft day.

A single cow spawned on a single block. Solder on, lonely cow.

Start of day 2. Hunting down chests yielded some loot and now I have a small platform.

And some stuff thats pointless for now.

I love how the angles look but I don't know if I'd really have that much fun playing it. Keep us posted though.

tempted to try it alone still, but I should probably wait to do it with everyone. Also haha at the cow.

This is the Minecraft social group, not a Seahawk's Minecraft Server only group :p. Server traffic is almost always zero, so please feel free to try stuff on your own and post about it here.

You should do Youtube videos on this stuff :p

The adventure continues...
On day 2 I continued my hunt for the invaluable bonus chests. I found some, including one with 30 dirt, score. I died soon after extracting one of the ones I found, but luckily it was all useless items and no blocks.
Start of day 3.
You can see the platform is a bit bigger and grassier. I'm hoping I can start the work of building a house on it soon. Yes, that is completely pointless, but I want to do it.

Ye inventory. Still mostly useless for now. Along with a Ghast egg! WHY?

An interesting phenomenom has started occuring. Somehow, some water and lava blocks on the map are going through a forced update, causing them to spill and cause huge flows.
There's also a zombie in this picture.
http://www.retrouprising.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2441&stc=1&d=1338606996
This is really good for water, as it lets me travel up and down safely. Not so great for the lava flows, for obvious reasons. This is especially troubling because.......

Yikes. Three lava blocks right above my home. Here's hoping they don't fall......

The zombie is staring you down like, I'm going to find a way to get to you eventually. And why would the blocks of water just randomly start falling like that?

I figured out why water and lava blocks flow.
Take a look at this picture. There is a reed growing directly below a lava block. It is 2 reeds tall.
http://www.retrouprising.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2444&stc=1&d=1338801726
Eventually, it grows into a three-reed tall stalk, and fill the space adjancent (under) the lava block.
http://www.retrouprising.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2445&stc=1&d=1338801818
Putting a block in a space forces all adjacent blocks to update. This is what causes the lava to flow, as it checks that there are no blocks next to it, so it flows.
http://www.retrouprising.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2446&stc=1&d=1338801917
Amusingly, it caused the water block next to the reed to flow briefly, before the source block was consumed.
http://www.retrouprising.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2447&stc=1&d=1338801979
The water flowed enough to catch a zombie. In the what must be the most violent zombie death ever, this unfortunate victim was crushed (water contacting lava turns it to stone!), drowned, and burned in lava AT THE SAME TIME.

Scary huh??
So that's part of the mystery solved.
However, some blocks seem to flow of their own accord, with no reeds nearby. I will look into this.
Aside from that, no updates today. I apologize, as I had no idea that people were following along until Tenser brought it up earlier in Minecraft, so this was low priority. I promise to get at least one MC day done every day going forward.

I suspect the reason why more water blocks are flowing on their own accord than lava is because of squid spawning. You wouldn't notice this as spawns happen no closer than 24 blocks from the player (mob spawners excluded) to a maximum of 132 blocks from the player. The squid have nothing close to reasonable AI and would immediatly swim out of the source block to their demise.

SkyGrid, Day 3.
Same as usual. Searching for preloaded chests, although it is becoming riskier to go get them, because I have to go farther to find them and get back.
Scary stuff as well, seeing as how I got caught out at night.

Say hello to Mr. Creeper (or CRPR as some of you vowel haters like).
Of course, avoiding a creeper is trivial, but imagine a skeleton! They would tear you up on this map. And losing a load of blocks like I have in this picture would be a catastrophe.
Here's the platform, from two angles as it's getting difficult to judge the size from one picture.

http://www.retrouprising.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2451&stc=1&d=1338881163
I'm somewhat worried of things spawning on it, for obvious reasons. Will need to get some more coal soon.
http://www.retrouprising.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2452&stc=1&d=1338881079
I might need to set up a new box for all this junk soon. Luckil I have plenty of free ones.
Now then.......to free up one of those lava buckets, I had the astounding and completely original idea to create a cobblestone generator.

DERP
I converted it to a normal 3 water regenerating basin.

SkyGrid, days 4, 5, and 6.
Surprise! Still more chest hunting. Days 4 and 5 had chests, but no big finds like dirt. For some reason I'm following a rule that the base of my platform must be made of dirt. I don't know why, but this is the way I want to do it. This might change when dirt becomes harder to find, but for now I'm holding true on that.
Now, onto interesting stories.
On the lowest level of the grid, there is a chest. Inside this chest there are 41 dirt blocks.
Three jumps never looked so intimidating.
http://www.retrouprising.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2456&stc=1&d=1339043808
On the way back up, I found a chest with 57 grass blocks in it. Awesome.
Picture taken on the way back up.
http://www.retrouprising.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2457&stc=1&d=1339043917
End Portal frame, a sheep spawner, and a creeper spawner. I'm not sure what I'd do with the creeper spawner.
On that note, I had to punch a creeper out of my way from across a gap. Poor creeper.
Finding ANOTHER chest on the way up made for a huge total haul of booty when I got back. I had to start a second box.
http://www.retrouprising.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2458&stc=1&d=1339044149
Not bad huh? But we're not done yet....
Hunting for more treasure the weather got snowy. This is the first time that a weather even has happened on this map.
http://www.retrouprising.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2459&stc=1&d=1339044249
The snow is really distracting while you need to make big jumps.
Getting back again after another huge haul, I have this.
http://www.retrouprising.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2460&stc=1&d=1339044510
200 base building blocks.
To be honest, I have no clue how I want to place them. Feel free to throw out ideas.

Maybe make a roof in case some random mob or lava comes down from above?
