i am a big tobacco dipper, stopped once for about 3 months, on my second stopping attempt right now...the patch is bs. yes, you stop smoking, but the root of the problem is nicotine addiction. in my current attempt, about 3 weeks now without a dip, the physicall hard part is the first 3 days, then about 2-4 weeks after...in the first 3 days without nicotine, you have physical withdrawls...stomach (or the pit in your stomach, my worst symptom), irritatbility, headache. after 2-4 weeks, you start longing for nicotine again based on conditioning...you smoke or dip after a meal...driving to work...on your 10 am lunchbreak...breaking that conditioning is hardest part. the patch doesn't break your addiction to nicotine at all. cold turkey is really the only way to do it, flush the nicotine from your system, then battle to break your conditioning.

and ten is right...with all addictions, the only time you can say that you quit is if it is on your tombstone after you are dead...because until then, you just stopped.

It's more of the chemicals that bother me from the cig burning, not so much the nicotine. Don't get me wrong, I would like to eliminate both eventually. I figure the water vapor electronic cig will be my foundation to quit smoking, then eliminate nicotine altogether. But it's the smoke and other harmful chemicals I need to avoid first.

I have 3 tins of Camel SNUS that I got for free. Any dippers ever try this stuff? I will probably end up giving it away to someone that will put it to use, because I have no intention of using it.

I use to smoke about a pack a day. Then right before my son's first birthday I just threw away my pack and had stopped for years.

Later on when I became a lab tech I had picked up the habit again for a few reasons, all of them stupid and just excuses. I've stopped for about six weeks now. I still have the occasional cigar, about once a month.

You do need to quit cold turkey. Everything else is a gimmick. It all depends on your willpower. You just need to realize two things; that the whole idea of you feeling better is a bunch of crap and that you'll always have urges. They'll grow fewer, farther between, and easier to deal with in time but they'll always be there.

My father, who quit about 15 years ago, claims he has dreams at least a few times a month that he is smoking. It does suck that the urge never really leaves you. He also started to have major respiratory complications soon after going cold turkey. He now suffers from a mild case of asthma. Kind of weird that he never had any health problems before he quit.

I tried this and it doesn't really help for me. It's like smoking a really bad cigarette while everyone around you is smoking the real deal. Also the FDA is cracking down on it because they say it's a "drug dispersal mechanism".

Call the cops and tell them he is holding your keys, bank card and you wanna leave him. Also tell them that he has been abusive in the past and you are afraid of how he'll react. They should come over and make sure you're able to leave with your stuff without issue(at least that's how it works in the US).

Don't try to do this yourself or he might attack you. Please listen when I say this, he is not stable and he might try to hurt you more or kill you. If you don't wanna call the cops at least get a couple friends to come with you as back up. You are not safe with him in this situation.

I wish your brother the best of luck. If it's his first time in, it can be scary or even overwhelming no matter what kind of tough guy you try to be. There is always someone tougher.

In Canada you typically do 2/3 of your sentence (good behaviour). You can get out earlier with parole etc. But I don't think it's worth it because of all the conditions you have. Plus you mess up once you can be back in to do the whole sentence ++ whatever else.

I did a year and a bit but was able to transfer from Alberta to B.C. Less gangs, less drugs and just better overall living conditions. Not that your brother would be in the edmonton remand if he is already sentenced but it is the worst remand in all of canada. 23.5 hr lock down most days sucks.

As Tenser stated earlier it does change your outlook on life. I know it did mine.

I can't believe how fricking Horible my luck is!!!
My brother comitted a crime WHILE HE WAS MANIC, yet now, he goes to the remand center for one night, he supposedly gets his meds the next day, he also supposedly gets to get out of the remand center the next day, 3 days later hes still there, not a single Fricking phonecall from him.

Turns out, he was put on the gang unit, yeah, the fricking gang unit, when he was arrest for this 15 fricking months ago he was put on the gang unit, Last time He was there, the fricking I.P. tried to get him in there gang, and this is no Fricking option, he was bailed out 15 minutes before he was going to be forced to join, so they never got his name thankfully...

now, like I said, 3 days later hes still there in the same FRICKING cell as the IP, it gets worss, the IP leaders in that stupid cell with him.
The gang won't let him use the phone, they keep him locked in the cell every break.

Now, my mom just went to see him today, why, you had to book a FRICKING apointment, that's how I found this out, so he's been days without meds, beaten up like you wouldn't believe, and law could care FRICKING less.
and how stupid, he was arrested for going manic, now the law won't give him his meds.

And the bestest part is this IP gang, if you ever leave, they kill you, and your whole FRICKING LIVING FAMILY THAT EXISTS.

2.- Rapists, Molesters and Ex police are kept on a special "secure ward"

Murders are usally mixed with the first lot,
unless they have been in the press - then they are with the Rapists and Ex Pigs1, incase any of the cons have heard what they have done.

But UK jails are a hell of alot different to US jails I suppose.
I dont beleve its anything like OZ though.

The American prison system is very hypocritical and has nothing to do with rehabilitation. I am not positive but I think most (not all) people that go in for long periods, like your brother, come out with more problems like drugs, hatred, fear and gangs.

I've had friends in jail, I feel ya man. I have a friend doing time for a crime he didn't do. They claim he robbed a place when there was no proof he was there, there was proof that he wasn't there and that a white guy was there, and the store clerk said it wasn't my friend. the native situation is a sticky one here, basically 500 years ago the process of secluding these people to respective reservs, based on their tribe affiliation began.

the problem is that they do not take advantage of that, something like 1.7 percent go to university, and the treat what is givin to them disrespectivly, they tear the sides of their houses apart for fire wood for example.
on the other hand, its very hard for them to get a job if one was inclined, because of their reputation, no one will hire them. its wrong of white men to come in and say "okay you live this way now" but that was 500 years ago, and whats done is done, at this point they need to get off there butts and and start trying to do something other than drink fire water. its very sad that a beautiful culture like theirs was all but destroyed, but its time for them to start merging in to the new world around them, and time for the rest of us to start accepting them for their individuality and not label them all as second class citizens.

My only point was that given the situation their reaction is not totally absurd. Most people/cultures would have similar responses if the same happened to them. I guess I also had the point that we should try really hard to avoid destroying cultures again.

Also if you give someone a house and they tear walls down to use as firewood they either really hate you, are really cold, do not care at all about houses at all, think you will give them a new one after they burn the first one or are incredibly stupid. In Cam's defense. I think the Negros thing was an honest mistake caused by trying too hard to be politically correct. Negros is more of just an outdated word than a racial slur. 50 years ago it was the same as saying African American today. I think it is just a word that isn't really used, racist or not.

And there is scientific evidence that decedents of West Africans (slaves) are often faster (sprint, jump) than Caucasians and East Africans typically have greater endurance (marathon).
