If I find more time, I'll try and be on more. September has been a busy month so far for me. I've been on a couple of times in the past few weeks but haven't found anyone from RU online so I didn't know where to go. What time are you guys usually on?
"My mind is my weapon. My brother has his sword, King Robert has his warhammer and I have my mind... and a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone if it is to keep its edge. That’s why I read so much, Jon Snow."

Great build, Cam!
But, what game cartridge is that?
{kidding}
Last night I joined a long discussion in MC chat regarding the new platforms and their comparison to the PC version.
While I understand the new ones are still under development and will be updated {I hope} the PC version seems to be falling behind in at least one regard = I was told that one new version has an Ender Dragon that breathes fire!
{to which I asked: 'is that a good thing?'}
Some server screenshots:
1. Upper RetroUprising village.
2. Lower RetroUprising village.
3. Cam's secret underwater lair.
4. Me, riding Lil' Joe, riding RetroUprising Railway to the new town nearby.
I know the 1.7 update is imminent but I'm still building lots - and getting to know the great community on the server at the same time.
I don't mind when {if ?} the map gets reset - it's like I've been saying for a while now in chat, this is the best server I've been on so far and I don't see any reason to look for a new one.
I highly recommend this server to our members here at RU.
Friendly, helpful Admin, amazing plugins and mods, a great bunch of people to play along side AND anti - grief protection to boot, what's not to love?
You should come join this growing community!
I didn't realize there's a 5 picture limit to the uploads, lame. Here's some screenshots I took. A couple are just nice random terrain shots. One is a strange peaceful creeper that cornered me in my mine. The other is a bad chunk load at tensers house, figured it might be interesting to see. Also SJB on a horse.
^
Thanks for telling us about the reverse compatibility, SJB - I've been having fun generating maps using old versions {like Alpha}, then re - loading them through newer versions to bring them up to date.
Generally if you update {early version map} to Beta 1.8 this then allows you to make it 1.6.4 after, and - Voila!
You have old world generation with updated {better, less laggy with all the new features} gameplay!
ON TOPIC:
I actually logged in for a while last night, was chatting with Mykeh and Flame whilst starting a new build on the cliff overlooking the RetroUprising Railway.
{nothing much to see yet}
About the Wolves, I learned they rarely if ever spawn on that server but legend has it that if you have 10 bones in your hand you can 'summon' a Wolf.
I know most of you are waiting for a map reset when the 1.7 update happens {my guess: Halloween} but I thought you would be interested in seeing my latest project:
The Abandoned Asylum:

Mykeh granted me Creative mode, so along with help from Blaze we terrorfomed the landscape to make a spooky setting for a horrifying Halloween display!
I doubt the interior will get completed at all {but may if the map isn't reset with the update} so right now it's like your front lawn display: intended to be viewed from the front only and the illusion is shattered the moment you see the rear of it.
{sounds kind of like those 'Real Housewives', doesn't it?}
Time {and Creative mode} permitting, there will also be a book written by me on display on the bulletin board in RetroUprising Village all about the Legend of the Abandoned Asylum ..
.. its shocking origins, with ties to ancient buildings where terrifying rituals were held .. the building of the dark old house itself, which would later become the Asylum, and the secrets of the lurking horrors within!
You've seen dark shadows roaming its cursed grounds, and you realize that soon they will be coming .. for YOU!!
^
TRUE, it would be possible in Survival but it's so much easier being able to fly around when building.
Also having access to most of the blocks is really handy as well - for instance, the mycelium used for the surrounding {cursed} grounds would have been impossible.
I haven't even seen a Mooshroom biome since I began on the server.
The other thing is that I want to have this all completed for Halloween, and Creative mode makes that more likely.
Blaze told me that Mykeh is going to keep this current map {Dravo} past the update, and it will be available through a warp in a similar to the current ones.
The Abandoned Asylum {Version 1.0} is here! Mykeh gave me Creative mode again, and Blaze helped me finish the building tonight, and I felt inspired so I wrote all 3 parts of the story {please put them back in the chest after you're finished}
It's a tale of:
Ancient Gods at play
Warlords and Wizards
.. ending with the unbelievable and tragic story of Dr. Killjoy .. read it and learn:
HOW it all began
WHAT happened next, in the middle part
and WHO the heck Dr. Killjoy is!
I know it sounds crazy from your point of view, but heed my story, my friends.
There are dark forces which have taken hold over a certain place ..
A place so outright cursed, that even evil people fear and avoid it .. but the way it all began is the most terrible thing of all .. you see ..
It all began with the Norse Gods of legend, yes I mean the actual Oden and Sif, Loke and Thor, Balder and Hod.
So it was that Balder, son of Oden, began having terrible nightmares of his own death.
So real were these dreams that he went to Oden and told him about it.
Oden sent one of his messengers to tell all things in the known world to swear they would not harm Balder.
In their haste to complete the task, one thing in the world happened to get overlooked ..
And it just so happened that Loke, who was ever - jealous of Balder, heard this news and began to make a plan ..
He tricked Oden's messenger in to revealing that one thing in the world that would harm Balder:
Mistletoe!
Now that he knew how to harm Balder, the only thing he needed to figure out was how to use it .. and then Loke remembered how the Gods would play while drunk in the Golden Hall = they would throw objects at the seemingly invincible Balder's chest and laugh as even Thor's mighty hammer bounced off harmlessly ..
So Loke disguised himself as an old maid, and snuck in among the Gods as they were just starting their new favorite game of throwing things at Balder, and he went to the Blind God, Hod.
He handed Hod a sturdy sprig of mistletoe, and since Hod could not see, Loke guided his hand as he thrust the sprig of mistletoe at Balder's chest ..
To the amazement of all the Gods in attendance, Balder's chest was instantly pierced by the mistletoe, and he fell to his knees, dying.
After the initial shock, Oden used magic to reveal any hidden things within the room, whereupon he dissolved Loke's disguise and the Gods grabbed him and held him fast for this terrible crime ..
Because Balder was the God of Light and Truth, the whole world suffers still from this great loss, even to this very day.
That spot on Earth, our world, which sat directly beneath the site of this unforgivable event has been cursed for all time ..
That place where evil runs amok.

Part 2: Wizards and Warlords
( Click to show/hide )
Through the ages, bad men from every corner of the Earth would hear of a magically cursed place, where evil things spawned as if from some Netherworld, and begin to have dreams of conquering and controlling that evil.
In their minds, they would command an Army of Darkness which would make them Master of the Universe.
One after another they came, greedy, wicked men, and not one of them was brave enough to stay for longer than a few years .. long enough to build some fort or castle, but it seemed that no thickness of stone walls nor any other defensive posture was enough to make them feel safe.
One could laugh at them, these tyrants and warlords, who at one time thought themselves invincible, after staying at that cursed site would run screaming into the night, sounding all the while as little girls frightened by shadows.
Their mighty armies followed them, close on their heel.
Only one of them ever managed to stay long enough to have built a proper castle with two mighty turrets, both of them seen even now, though they be the very last of what once were a mighty castle.
Again, one could laugh at this toughest of tyrants, this arrogant lout, as ht sat his throne to the very last, even as an enormous flying Demon summoned by a Witch he was entertaining that evening flattened the whole castle save the turrets with a single fireball.
It WOULD be to laugh, but it was on that same evening that they made the resident evils furious with their defiant attitude, and they decided to teach them a lesson.
Since then the ground turned that horrible color it is now, a constant reminder to any who may defy those evils by intruding ..
But even all this was no deterrent to one man ..

Part 3: Dr. Killjoy
( Click to show/hide )
Dr. Killjoy moved into a large house he had built directly on the site of some great ruins, directly between the two crumbling towers that remained.
It was very important that the house be on this site, because of the nature of Dr. Killjoy's work:
Dr. Killjoy was a modern - day NECROMANCER.
He knew full well the unknown fury resided within that odd, tainted soil.
He knew all about how this site became cursed by Loke's evil actions.
He even owned some of the personal items which belonged to the previous residents of that place; a sword from his warlord, a scepter from that wizard.
He even bought a skull from a museum that was said to be some tyrant, perhaps the same one who stood there until the very end, watching the castle be blown apart all around him ..
Dr. Killjoy wanted to harness it all, and his confidence exceeded even that of his predecessors that he would succeed, for unlike they who armed themselves with weapons of steel, arrows, and magic, his power was the greatest of all: the power of SCIENCE.
Dr. Killjoy became obsessed, as so many scientists do.
His desire to unlock the secrets of that place made him blind to the everyday world.
When his wife, Henrietta, became possessed, he locked her in the cold cellar, after dismembering her still - moving body, her fighting him and screaming as only a Demon could.
Calmly, Dr. Killjoy returned to his work.
He recorded what had happened to his wife that evening into his reel - to - reel tape recorder in a calm voice, as if it were just another entry ..
Things happened very quickly from that point:
His daughter became possessed, so he chopped her head off with an axe.
Even as he buried his only child, his mind was solely on his work, for he knew the answer to his question was nearly within his grasp.
Now that he was all alone in that giant house, there was nothing to stop him from his ultimate design:
He opened the house as an Asylum.
Taking patients from the local hospitals, Dr. Killjoy requested he be sent only the most hopeless and uncureable cases.
Of course what he didn't count on was that would be his one fatal error, and it would be the very night he was about to open what he thought should be a portal to another dimension, at his moment of triumph everything fell down.
Up to that point he had done everything scientifically and his work was paying off; he had everything right about having the evils possess the living, but because he was using patients who were, for the most part, monsterously insane individuals, the end result was that instead of unlocking the secrets of life and death, he got bitten grievously by one of his possessed patients with the dual result of him becoming an INSANE zombie.
He's still in that Asylum, the Abandoned Asylum, or so it is called.
Just don't go too near, especially close to Halloween!

Happy Halloween, thanks for reading and I wish you and yours health and happiness!
P.S.
Part 1 is an actual legend, adapted for this story.
Check out Norse mythology, it's cool!
I believe I'm where I want to be resource-wise now. The only question looming is whether I build at my current place or wait for the 1.7 map.
Maybe I'll do both...
I'm not doing a map reset at 1.7 release. I'm adding a new world called Eden. So players can play in 1.6 world called Dravo or transfer their stuff to 1.7 Eden.
