I have an ASUS 64 bit laptop running Windows 8. But I don't think it's the problem, I have tried overclocking the cpus in MAME and the game isn't slow but the screen gets all effed up.

I get lag on Starblade, it's playable for fun, but not for setting high scores. I have an Intel core i5 with 6 GB of ram.

There is not anything you can do to speed it up significantly. MAME isn't very fast at playing most 3d games. I have a decent computer and can only play Starblade around 50% frame rate. You can press F11 in mame to see your framerate %.

I just upgraded my desktop today from Vista (don't judge) to a nice Intel i5, with 12gb of RAM, and I was finally able to play this game smoothly and with no lag. I don't remember this one from my arcade days, but it's playable here. You just need more juice.

I have a quad core i7 with 16gb ram and can not play it.

Just stock integrated Intel HD 4600. No idea how much video RAM I even have, to be honest. I usually have a dedicated card, but not this time.

It prompted me to upgrade to Win10 right after I booted up. I'll never have owned and used a Win8 machine, thank god.

This plays well on my PC, I get about 90% frame rate. Some other 3d games run like crap though.
