Super Street Fighter IV

Story:

In series timeline, the Street Fighter IV series takes place after Street Fighter II,
but before Street Fighter III.

The story is standard for the Street Fighter series; S.I.N., an international weapons
manufacturer headed by CEO Seth, the main villain, is hosting an international
fighting tournament as an attempt to permanently overthrow previous leader M.
Bison and grant Seth supreme control over Shadaloo, M. Bison's organization.

Unfortunately, from the outside S.I.N. looks like any other company but various
organizations such as Interpol, an International Police agency, Delta Red, an
English anti-terrorist force, and the U.S. Army. Each suspect dirty work and have
sent their best agents to investigate, Chun-li, Cammy, and Guile respectively.

But Super Street Fighter IV has introduced 10 new characters to the plot each
bringing a story to tie in the plot:

-Deejay is a Jamaican Kick boxer who's in the tournament for the excitement.
-T. Hawk is a Mexican Tribesman who's seeking his lost sister, Julia.
-Dudley is an English Boxer who seeks new roses for his garden.
-Ibuki is a Japanese Ninja looking for a new boyfriend.
-Makoto is a Japanese Karate master trying to promote her dojo.
-Guy is an American Ninja trying to liberate Metro City from S.I.N.'s Control.
-Cody is an American Convict who's escaped jail out of boredom.
-Adon is a Thai Kick boxer trying to prove his superiority.

But SSFIV introduces two new characters to the series:
-Juri, a South Korean assassin working for Seth
and
-Hakan a Turkish Yagli Gures (Oil Wrestling) fighter who wants to prove Turkish
Oil Wrestling is the best style.

While the plot is simple, as is most fighting games, it isn't bad, introduces stories of
Abel, the French Mercenary with no memories, and Rufus the self-labeled "American
Champion" in nicely done animated intros and endings:

In the middle of the story mode, players will encounter Rival matches, set matchs
for your playable character, such as the long awaited Dudley vs. Balrog:

Gameplay:

Although Super Street Fighter IV has 3D characters, it still is a 2D fighting game.
But the real seller for Super Street Fighter IV is that while it has the great features
from Street Fighter III: Third Strike and Street Fighter Alpha 3, it still manages to
play like the iconic Super Street Fighter II: Turbo and has excellent new features to
boot.

Like previous games, players attack with either kicks or punches with 3 levels,
Light, Medium, and Heavy, giving players a selection on either speed or power for
their attacks. Also every character has special moves, some use a controller motion
and a button input, such as the Hadouken or Spinning Piledriver, while some
moves must be "charged" by holding one direction, switching to the other, and then
inputting the button, such as the Sonic Boom or Sumo Headbutt.

However, these moves can be enhanced. By using a portion of your Super Gauge:

You can enhance the properties of your super moves, Ryu's Hadouken will be
flaming and deal more damage, Guy's Hozanto is lightning quick, and Zangief's
Flying Powerbomb has super armor. But, if one was to save the energy, players
can unleash their Super and dish out major damage.

One in particular, Dan's "Legendary Taunt" is the only Super that doesn't do
damage, however it can be comboed into an Ultra, every characters' ultimate attack.

As I've said before, the Ultra is everyone's ultimate technique, they are unleashed
by building up the Ultra or Revenge Gauge which increases as you receive
damage, the more filled the meter is, the more damaging the Ultra. Capcom
deserves credit with the excellent look of some of the ultras, have a look yourself:

Ryu II (Metsu Shoryuken):

Ken I (Shinyuken):

Gen II Ver. 2 (Teiga):

Cammy II (CQC) (Tenser will love this one):

Guy II (Bushin Muso Renge) (My favorite Ultra):

Cody II (Last Dread Dust):

Fei-Long II (Gekirinken AKA One-Inch Punch)

Juri II (Kaisen Dankairaku) (Just look at M. Bison's face, you know he's in pain):

Hakan I (Oil Coaster):

The one Ultra I have serious complaints about it Akuma's Second Ultra, as quoted
by a few friends it's a "Roflcopter" attack that does little damage and looks
ridiculously stupid.

Also important is the Focus Attack, by pressing the Medium Punch and Kick
buttons at the same time, you use a focus attack, that'll absorb one attack and then
counterattack. But certain moves such as Ibuki's Neck Breaker will smash through
your focus attack.

Super Street Fighter IV see the return of two iconic modes, the Car Smasher and
Barrel Breaker. Each of which are small entertainments for players to do when
they are bored.

Car Smasher:

Barrel Buster:

Graphics:

Super Street Fighter IV retains the "Inky" artstyle of Street Fighter IV and
Capcom's iconic Okami, which is visually impressive for some of the Ultras.

The new stages also a well designed, especially the African Savana stage "Solar
Eclipse" and Final Fight Stage, "Skyscraper Under Construction".

Sound:

Unlike Street Fighter III which featured almost complete Jazz, Super Street Fighter
IV has stage themes that, while nice, aren't as good as the Alpha or SFII themes.
SSFIV also retains the music from Street Fighter IV.

Construction Site:

Solar Eclipse:

India Stage:

Korea Stage:

Super Street Fighter IV also has nicely remixed for each character, which was a
major complaint from SFIV, which has themes for only a few characters.

( Click to show/hide )

Deejay's Theme:

T. Hawk's Theme:

Guy's Theme:

Cody's Theme:

Dudley's Theme:

Balrog's Theme:

Fei-Long's Theme:

Ibuki's Theme:

Makoto's Theme:

Dan's Theme:

Juri's Theme:

Hakan's Theme:

And this includes the themes from Street Fighter IV:

( Click to show/hide )

Ryu's Theme:

Ken's Theme:

Guile's Theme:

Chun-Li's Theme:

Zangief's Theme:

El Fuerte's Theme (My personal favorite):

Rufus' Theme (An interesting theme):

Abel's Theme:

Sakura's Theme:

Challenge:

The gameplay in Super Street Fighter IV is very balanced, making it easy to learn
but hard to master, but with one exception: Seth.

Final Bosses in the Street Fighter series have been tough, but none like Seth, he'll
teleport around the ring shooting Sonic Booms and other irritating moves.

But aside from that, the game is fine.

Overall:

Super Street Fighter IV is an excelent entree to the series, perfectly blending ideas
from different games in the series while still adding new ones. This is a must have
game for any Street Fighter fan.

9.5/10

I haven't reviewed in a while, tell me if I made any mistakes.

Re: Super Street Fighter IV

Nice review.
Personally I think that this is just too many Street Fighter games.

From just the one's I can think of, this is number eleven, so they could have just named it Street Fighter XI, or Street Fighter: Who Gives a Damn.

Street Fighter, Street Fighter II, Super Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Street Fighter III, Street Fighter IV, Super Street Fighter IV. I don't even think I have them all.
