Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny

Gameplay:

Although Broken Destiny lacks a story, it makes it up with excelent gameplay.

Broken Destiny plays like the other Soul Calibur titles, players battle it out in
various arenas using one of the 28 playable characters. Each character has
their own set of Horizontal attacks, Vertical Attacks, and Kicks to eliminate their
enemies. Unfortunately, Yoda and Vader didn't return from Soulcalibur IV, but are
replaced by God of War's very own Kratos and newcomer Dampierre.

Kratos is easy to play with his brute power and range:

While Dampierre is very techincal and unpredictable (and humerous):

Horizontal attacks are often wide sweaping attacks that provide massive range,
Vertical attacks often have the most distance or power, while Kicks are quick and
easily combo up with other attacks.

A new mode added to Broken Destiny is the Quick Match mode. Players can
select one from 200 various AI's of varrying play style and difficulty, allowing for
alot of varried matches but after a while it can get repetitive.

Another new mode is the Gauntlet, in which players are given tasks to perform in a
few seconds, such as block an incoming attack, or use a specific attack. The
Gauntlet is esentially Training mode for new players, and it has little entertainment
whatsoever.

The Final new mode is the Trails, in which players try to rack up as many points as
possible based on the various requirements. Trail of Attack has you gaining points
via combos while Trail of Defense has you guard and counter.

An important thing to pay attention to is your Soul Gague, if you are continously
being attacks while blocking, the gague will slowly turn to red until it begins to
glow. If it's completely drained, your enemy can unleash a Critical Finish,
guaranting them victory:

Returning from previous Soulcalibur titles are the Character Creation mode, Versus mode, and Training Mode.

In character creation, you can make upto 16 custom characters with the fighting
styles of the in game characters. Although the equipment wount affect stats like it
did in Soulcalibur IV, it still allows you to unleash your inner fandom:

In Versus mode you can battle friends via wireless connection but unfortunately,
online multiplayer is unavailable.

Finally, Broken Destiny has a training mode for you to perfect your skills.

Graphics:

Namco really outdid themselves with the graphics, each stage's detail nears the
detail of Soulcalibur IV's graphics. Also, each character is very detailed with
moving parts and stunning critical finishes.

Sound:

The music is also of high quality with beautiful songs that help keep the fights
moving along:

To the Wind:

Halcyon Harbor:

Immaculate Pledge:

Midnight Mystique (Dampierre's Theme):

Island of Creation (Krato's Theme):

Overall:

Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny is a solid entry into the Soul Franchise, although the
modes lack varriety and origionality the gameplay is still rock solid and will keep
fan entertained.

4/5

Re: Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny

Wow I didn't realize Kratos is in this version. I'm liking how they add new characters that are completely unexpected.
