Might & Magic:Clash of Heroes HD

Might & Magic:Clash of Heroes is a hard game to describe. It's an turn based RPG meeting a puzzle game where you are required to match units of the same type and color.

Plot
There is a very basic plot. Several countries on the continent have lived in peace. All of a sudden Devils and Demons appear trying to throw the world into chaos by starting wars. It's up to representatives from each of the 5 countries to stop the threat in their lands and keep all hell from breaking loose.

Gameplay
Like most RPG's, it's broken into 2 parts. Exploration and battle.

Exploration:
You wander around a set path moving from dot to dot. This is where you get the plot for each area, find battles, buy units, and do side quests.

Battle:
This is where you fight the enemy. Fighting is kind of hard to explain. Here is a picture from the DS version of a typical battle screen:



Forming an Attack:
Attacking varies based on the unit. There are 3 different unit types:
-Core: The basic unit. Match 3 of the same type and color in a row VERTICALLY.
-Elite: A special unit with a stronger attack. Unlike core units, they take up 2 spaces on the vertical. To form an attack unit with them you put 2 units of the same color behind them.
-Champion:These are the biggest, strongest units. They take up 4 spaces in a 2x2 pattern. To form an attack formation you must line up 4 of the same color units in a 2x2 pattern behind it.

Charge time:
Attacks do not launch immediately. Once an attack formation is formed, they have to charge. Charge time varies per unit, from as little as 1 turn to as many as 5 turns. A number is present on each attack formation to tell you how many turns until it attacks.

Attack Power:
On the bottom of the attack formation is a bar and a number that increases as it charges. This is the attack power. Attack power can also be viewed as the health of the formation as it will decrease as it is hit by opponent attacks, or as it goes through enemy units.

Defense:
Lining up at least 3 of the same colored unit HORIZONTALLY forms a wall. Doing the same behind the wall forms a stronger wall. Walls help stop enemy attacks, though some attacks will kill the wall and keep going.

Reinforcements:
As your units are used or killed, they go into the reinforcement queue. They can be called back at the cost of a turn though you get no choice which come back and where they will line up.

Victory:
Unless otherwise noted before the battle, victory comes when you deplete your opponents HP. You do this by getting attacks to the enemies health line which is behind the units.

Advanced Attacks:
There are advanced attacks such as linking, fusing, and Hero spells but the game has a better tutorial on it than I can explain.

Overall:
This is a very good game if you like the combat system. It has an online component as well though I don't know how active it is.

One major con, it loads all the time. It can't do much without a loading screen. I hear it's not bad on the PC and 360, but loading time is BRUTAL on the PS3. Is it unplayable on the PS3? Far from it. However the loading time is highly annoying.

I'd recommend it on the PC or 360 before the PS3.

I was interested in this when I thought it was a tactical RPG. When I found out it was a glorified puzzle game I was like "meh".

I just finished this game recently actually on my DS. It wasn't so bad and I normally don't like puzzle games. You may want to check it out anyway Dudebro.

I finally got around to beating it. Nadia's campaign seemed like the developers were running out of time and ended the game as fast as possible. No more bounties, no side quests, and you start at level 7. Kinda weak
