Metro 2033

Metro 2033... A game with big hopes for itself. to put it short, DEEP, ENGROSSING STORY, HORRIFIC MOMENTS HERE AND THERE, AND AN CHALLENGING GAMEPLAY

I'm reviewing the PC version, and i've heard the console version has it's issues, so buy at your own risk.

This game is quite an interesting one in that it's story seems deep and engrossing straightfoward, but in hindsight... it's much, much better. I'll leave it at that so not to ruin the story.

The game starts off in media res, a continuation of a level much later in the game. The main character Artyom is a somewhat silent protagonist, quietly muttering a few words here and there, and curses at times. He also provides the opening narration. He's more so an avatar for the player at times, especially in his choices. It's a bit like a more restrained version of Fallout where you make MAJOR decisions with BIG changes in the game.

If you are looking for a bright, upbeat game, this is the one this is not the game your looking for. it takes place mostly in the underground russian subway tunnels where humanity makes one of it's last stands, choking on it's own excrement, facing it's obsolete life in it's gritty face. I like that.

You might ask yourself, why do they live in the subways? well, it's for two reasons. One is that the world has been so thourougly destroyed that simply breathing the air outside is fatal, and second is cause of these

yeah. The world is overrun with mutants adapted to the hellish world.

THIS GAME IS REALLY ATMOSPHERIC
don't come crying to me if you find yourself speaking with a russian accent after this game

THE WEAPONS ARE KIND OF COOL
one of my favorite weapons is a pneumatic pressureized air device that is silent on it's own and shoots marbles. another shoots arrows, but those are harder to come by.
IT REMINDS ME OF RESIDENT EVIL
you have to choose between using crappy homemade bullets or using rare millitary grade bullets which are also used as money. Want a better gun? too bad, you shot one too many mutants.
THE MORAL CHOICES MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE
yes. there are multiple endings, so make sure to be on your best behavior, young'un.
THE GAME IS BLEAK
it's not just bleak; it's downright horrific. In just a few generations, humanity will likely die out from too small a gene pool and a hostile world.

All in all, it's a really fun game. It has glitches out the wazoo, though, so be cautious.
