SCP Containment Breach

I'm a big fan of horror shows and movies, specifically spooky ones having to do with ghosts and the supernatural.
The unseen and unknown stirs something deep within me, as it does with a lot of people.
Add in the mystique of a secret laboratory dedicated to research and study of such supernatural phenomena and you get:

SCP Containment Breach

Quote:
SCP - Containment Breach is a free survival horror game based on the works of the SCP Foundation community.
I downloaded the game and tried it only a few times before going to bed, only just now waking from a terrible nightmare {surprisingly induced by such a short exposure}, moaning loud Orangutan-ish sounds: hoo! - hooooo!! - HOOOOOOO!!!

{ in my dream I was screaming: 'no! - noooo!! - NOOOOOOO!!!'} , the intensity of which woke me and, immediately after recovering from the experience, knew it was my duty as a Gamer to make this post - and here we are.

^
Games don't just give me nightmares, ever.
EVER.
So I knew right away this indicates SCP is a special game which plays on a deep underlying part of a persons' psyche, triggering primal fears {Orangutan - ish fears, one might say} not many games are capable of.

I've only played around 3 or 4 times so far and aside from the layout of the map, it played different each time, meaning to say I was killed in a different manner each time and game events seem inconsistent past the intro.
There is a save feature but right now I'm not sure how much help it will be, given the seemingly random nature of it.

All this, and tons of related Creepy Pastas along with a comprehensive database of in - game case studies dating back 8 years, there's a lot to see with SCP.

I'm dying to hear what you guys have to say about this one.
Now that I'm done making this post I think I may be safe to go back to sleep .. at least I hope I am .. it's the middle of the night for me, I need more rest ...

Re: SCP Containment Breach

I like horror and supernatural stuff(when it's not presented as real) but I can't play horror games, too spooky. I know that's a bit shameful to admit but it's the truth. Even though I know it's just a game but it puts me on edge and makes me tense. I play games to have fun and relax.

I don't think I've had a bad dream because of a horror game but I know I've had game related nightmares before. Those really freak me out because it's like I know it's not real while it's happening but I can't get out of it. Those are the kind of dreams where I try to scream and I can't, that shit is really disturbing.

I don't think there's any shame in feeling scared, because it's a sense we require to keep us out of danger {in the real world}.
Same goes for getting 'spooked', in my opinion.

I hear what you're saying about having fun and relaxing, and in that way I guess I also have to agree that horror games do stress people and put them on edge - especially where jump scares and such are concerned.

I guess it's a curiosity of mine with horror games where I want to see what sort of things people consider scary enough to include in them.
So in that way I guess I got what I deserved with that nightmare, but to me it's no different than going on a ride at the amusement park because both the game and the resulting nightmare were 'safe' scares.

Then again nightmares aren't truly 'fun' like other things are and it takes a certain frame of mind to 'enjoy' them, I'm guessing.
To be honest there are a few types of nightmares I find un - enjoyable no matter how I try:

The 'running from ____ too slowly to escape'
The 'not being able to scream yourself out of it' {like you said}
and the ones where you wake up and have sweated so much the bed is soaking wet.

The worst of all involve 'sleep paralysis', no matter what degree of severity.
I experienced it once as a kid and never want that to happen again; it's so bad it makes you wonder if there's something genuinely wrong with you like if you're being visited by evil spirits or something.

Re: SCP Containment Breach

While I do enjoy a good scary movie (Oculus is a good one, you should watch it if you haven't) I don't like playing horror games. Kinda like DB, I like to relax when I play. Horror games tend to be difficult because you're always at a huge disadvantage and the game tends to be difficult. If the game frustrates me, it's not my kind of game. I'm very much a casual gamer. I do however like watching the let's play this spooky game vids on youtube.

Re: SCP Containment Breach

Personally I do enjoy Horror games but only ones that let you fight back.

Ones where you have to constantly hide don't do much for me.

I understand and SCP does seem to be of the 'hiding' variety.
Shame really, because I think it would spice the game up considerably if there were weapons of some kind here and there; however it is interesting to note that, during the intro of the game, someone unloads a full - auto rifle into the very first 'monster' you encounter {SCP-173} with absolutely no effect.
So even if there were weapons I wonder if they would be worth having anyway.

About the game:

I've noticed that the SCP Foundation rooms are randomly generated once you get past the spawn area {hence the game Seeds}, increasingly so with higher difficulty settings.
Safe - not so much
Euclid - more so
Keter - lots

This game does require significant time investment, not only to learn what to do {or not to do} but also because several times I've had really random events occur which defy explanation, even within the context of the anomalous lifeforms and objects which the SCP Foundation contains and their potential effects on your character.

What's interesting about these events is that while you may be tempted to stop the game due to some sudden change in location, apparent lethargy or disorientation of your character or other similar effects, it does not necessarily mean the game is over {meaning you died} and a few times I've 'come out of it' and found my character in a different location than I was when the event began.

It's a very interesting game.

I know, lots of people seem to feel this way; I think the difficulty and disadvantages add to the overall 'horror' aspect of these games in general.

The only kind I like are when the player is silent or close to it.

I don't enjoy constant talking or worse, screaming at every little thing that the player thinks is scary {granted a lot of them probably act it up a bit just for the videos}.
