Sega arcade games issues

Hi! All games are working great for me lately except for the Sega coin-op games like After Burner and Out Run. I notice on my computer at times they play very choppy, a bit slow, and the sound skips alot. Why is that and what can I do to fix it??

Get a better computer, pretty much all the pseudo 3D games run terribly for me too. I'm sure others can elaborate on specifics better than me, but in a nutshell, your specs are probably not up to par.

Hmm my computer is ok I think. It hasn't been slow lately at all. Those same games were running okay like a few weeks back though and now they play choppy. Not sure what it is. Checked to uninstall anything out of the ordinary but everything is running fine according to my PC scans. I'm running on Windows 7 btw.

I had something similar this week and I run windows 7 as well. In my case it was windows updates causing the problem. I noticed in task manager svchost.exe using a lot of CPU time so I checked windows updates and there were a bunch there.

This was strange because they hadn't shown up in the system tray. In any case I installed them all and rebooted and it was fine after. Might be something to check.

Sounds complicated lol. I'm not super computer literate by any means, but if someone can post a step by step what to do that would be great...

I've already rebooted my PC a bunch of times though(even went through the hassle of doing a system restore),and the games are still acting choppy.

Weird considering just a few weeks back I was able to play Out Run very smoothly, and even a few weeks before that was able to beat the whole game of Space Harrier coin-op! I don't want to have to buy another laptop again, ugh.

Re: Sega arcade games issues

Windows 10?
Press Control + Shift + Escape.
Task Manager will open.
In bottom left corner, if it says "more details" click that. If it says fewer details, leave it.
There will be percents above the four right columns.
Are any of them over 40%? If yes, click that column to sort by it. What app has the highest number in that column?
If no, try a game and make sure you are still having lag.

Run windows update and make sure everything is up to date.

Click Start, in search box type device manager then hit enter. Expand Display Adapter and make sure your graphics card appears there and doesn't have an X on it.

Go to "this pc" or "my computer". Check the free space on the C drive. Should be at lest 15% free.

So I tried those steps last night. My computer is on Windows 7 btw,not 10. Would it make a difference if I upgraded to 10

Anyways I still tried those steps, and the games are still choppy

And now I noticed even some other coin-op games other than the Sega ones(usually the ones that were made in the late 80's and above, the ones with the more complex graphics)are acting slow too. WTH!?!?!? That sucks!!!!!!! So now I'm actually looking to buy a new computer. I don't want to have to thinking this maybe just a temporary problem, but I really miss playing the games already.

maybe slightly.

press windows key + r to open run prompt.
paste
%temp%\low\arcadeox
press enter
if folder not found change to
%temp%\arcadeox
delete everything in this folder - this includes your save states so you may want to make a back up first.
try a game again.
This resets all arcadeox settings to default.

If you are positive that it worked before, then you don't need to buy a new computer. Reinstalling windows from scratch on your computer will have the same effect as buying a new one.

Okay so I went ahead and deleted most of the files in the temp folder, but notice there's still one in there that is being stubborn called "coinopF"... It won't go to the recycling bin,and I get a message saying it won't move to the bin because it's still running on another program(MAME). Don't know how to remove that one, ugh,it won't budge.

So then out of curiosity,I went and tried Out Run again. Still choppy! I mean the game plays, but the music keeps skipping, and I think even the gameplay is a bit choppy with it too. Really annoying and can't play the game when it's like that.

Yeah I'm certain it worked smoothly just a few weeks back. I assume now it might be because of that one file that won't move to the recycling? I did notice, the game came up alot faster than before. I might upgrade to 10 if you really say that will help,or reinstall Windows from scratch.

Re: Sega arcade games issues

Reinstalling Windows from scratch should definitely work especially if the games ran fine before. However you should try rebooting again then following Kong's instructions to delete the required folders. A reboot should solve the problem with the file in use.

Re: Sega arcade games issues

@file wont delete. This is likely the cause of your problem. It means something went wrong and you have a copy of the game running in the background. So when you start a new game you are probably running two games at once. Closing the browser should allow you to delete that file but if it doesn't rebooting will.

If you don't want to reboot you could also use Task Manager (control + shift + escape) to end task coinopf.exe and then delete the file.

@upgrade - no promises that it will improve your situation. I would bet it would but I would not bet big.

@format & reinstall - this will most likely make your computer run like it did when it was new.

Re: Sega arcade games issues

Sucks to bring this back up again, but some of the games are back to playing choppy again. They were playing great for about 2 weeks until last week I noticed they've been slow again.

Went through all the steps again... Deleted all the temp files in the arcadeox folder, rebooted like at least a dozen times, and they're still acting slow.

This only happens to the more complex late 80's/90's type games like Slipstream and Street Fighter 2,but the earlier games like Frogger with the more simple graphics play ok.

I'm not that computer savvy. I don't know how to reinstall the Windows either I looked up my product key # and it doesn't work on the Microsoft site when trying to reinstall again. Soo until this problem gets solved,I'm actually looking at buying another computer soon.

---------- Post added 04-28-2016 at 02:10 AM ---------- Previous post was 04-23-2016 at 04:56 PM ----------

Nevermind it works again lol. Not sure why it got slow again but it fixed itself again.
