Sound option not in task bar.

So ya, I'm pretty sure it has to do with some updates with windows on my comp I did. Basically, ever since then, my sound does not show up in the task bar. When I checked to see if it somehow got hidden, it's a grey unclickable button. How do I fix this? I logged into my Mom's username on my laptop and the sound showed up fine. It's just annoying that i have to search for it now, cuz I like and used to the easy way.

P.S. the updates I am referring to is windows update. Here's what I did before this crap started happening:

Re: Sound option not in task bar.

Right click the start button.
Select properties.
Click notification area tab.
Check volume.
Click ok.

If that doesn't work then you probably need to reinstall the driver.
