7800 Games - black screen

Whenever I try to run an Atari 7800 game, the emulator window pops up but remains forever black. I am able to run GBA and coin-op without problems, so it appears to be something 7800 specific. Any clues on how to get these to load?

Re: 7800 Games - black screen

Davypi, I've tried a few 7800 games and no problems here.

Try again.

It's possible when you were trying before that one of the Powers That Be at RU was mucking around with the clanking machinery behind the scenes, perhaps shovelling more coal into an emulator's hungry furnace, or replacing a broken rubber band or applying some WD-40 to a cog in the 7800 piston room.

If you still have no joy (and you've restarted your machine) go here and we'll do what we can :

Re: 7800 Games - black screen

Well, I've figured out part of the problem, but not all of it. Anyway...

1) I would prefer not to use TeamView, but I am not against it.
2) Win 7 Ultimate. I leave updates on, so I assume I am current on patches
3) IE 11.0.9600.17728
4) Tower Toppler - Atari 7800
5) Arcade Full mode does not work. Arcade OX mode does work.
6) No. I have never been able to load a 7800 game in Full mode.
7) When I click on the link to load Full mode, the ProSystem Emulator window opens, but the screen is completely black. I do have a File/Options/Help menu, but I'm not sure if this helps or not. If there is something additional I need to do to get the game to load I've not seen any instructions as to what to do next.

Additional problem: The difficulty switch appears to be stuck.

When I load Xevious, both my weapons fire at once, but I remember this being the difference between having difficulty mode on and off. (When off, the weapons fire independently based on the button pressed.) In Tower Toppler, the difficulty switch was used to skip levels. In the emulator, this makes the game impossible to play because it is stuck in tower skip mode. If the difficulty switch is supposed to stick to the ON position for high score purposes, you need to remove this setting for Tower Toppler. If the difficulty switch is not supposed to be stuck on the ON position, I need to know why it is behaving this way in my emulator.
