I think we don't know enough to verify what exactly these phenomenons are. It could be some sort of light refraction of some sort kind of like at the auras we get towards the north pole. I believe you can visually see those from Alaska and Canada. I don't think they are extraterrestrial related. Military maybe more plausable.
