Hopefully, that won't happen. I don't think trying for world records is a bad thing in itself, but if a site, refs, or whatever become a secretive cadre of ruffians it can make things fall apart. It should be the same rules for all people across the board. I have always believed that.

TG, sadly has acquired an reputation in recent years for not recognizing scores in certain games if the record was one they didn't wish to be challenged. Discounting the events seen in King of Kong where score acceptance was not only random (i.e. Some people could send in tapes. Others could not.), but I have heard that people were discouraged or outright ignored when trying to set new highs in games like Missile Command among others. Another great thing about RU is it's all out in the open. There is no secret electronic trash bin where unwanted scores go. If a score is legitimately set, it is straight up recognized. I love RU!

@WB and Elrod
I can't speak for everyone here, but it seems that, at least the vast majority, of the community actually enjoy loosing scores as much as they enjoy setting them. It's astounding how great a group we are.
Essie, I think for me anyway, RU is also greatly about the camaraderie between members and players. That speaks strongly of the guys like Kongger, Tenser, Dudebro, and Sabby who for years (way before Jozzer and I were SM's) diligently worked to make sure the forums were an orderly, but fun place to thrive with your RU friends. Compare RU to somewhere like 4-chan and the difference is immediately apparent. RU feels like a safe place, and I think that spirit carries over to the gaming for the most part as well.

I can't think of another site I have ever been apart of where the fellow members not only cheer one another on to be the best they can be in gaming, but also just hang out with one another. It's pretty cool. This is the only site I can think of where there are people on here I would one day actually want to meet in real life.

Anyway, I hope the new owners will help make TG a better place so the site can get back on its feet. No hard feelings there, but maybe it will be a lesson in what can happen when people in charge become corrupt. Hopefully, they can get better in the future.
