Getafix, the Druid whose magic potion has kept his village from falling into Caesar's hands, has been kidnapped! Join Asterix and Obelix as they try to rescue the druid and save the village!
This arcade adventure captures the feel of the comic books very well, but the gameplay looks a bit tired.
Based on the infamous French comics, Asterix is an example of the old cliche - a platform licensed game. Asterix and his fat friend Obelix must battle through many levels to do something or other... the plot is irrelevant.
The platform action is fairly simple, but that's not necessarily a bad thing - there are loads of levels, some of which are quite large, and it's enjoyable enough to play through them. They are split into 7 rounds, consisting of 3 or so stages, which you can choose to play through with Asterix or Obelix. At the end of most rounds, you have to defeat a boss, which is no doubt another character from the world of Asterix.
The levels are quite varied, and the graphics are pretty good. There is pretty much every platform game feature you could think of - destroyable blocks, bonus pickups, water sections, ice sections, moving platforms, springs, bonus stages, and so on. The levels actually differ depending on which character you choose, so there's even more to play through - 42 levels in total.
Overall, Asterix is an accomplished if deeply unoriginal platform game - if you like this kind of thing, you'll enjoy it and if you don't, don't bother. |

Asterix And The Great Rescue » Sega-Genesis » Discuss » Plays: 0
During the Roman occupation of France, a lone Gaul warrior arose from among his fellows to do battle with his largely incompetent foes. Meet Asterix, the undersized hero of the first French Resistance. Based on the hit European comic series.
Excellent concept, excellent games. I must admit to a certain bias, as I am a fan of the original comic, but even non-fans have found the games to be entertaining. Highly recommended. |

The game is based on the popular French comics series Asterix. It is 50 B.C., and the entire Gaul (today's France) is conquered by the Romans. Only one village still remains independent, thanks to the incredible powers of its two great warriors, Asterix and Obelix. In the game, they must first of all liberate the village Orvio and rescue their friend Dogmatix.
You can play as either Asterix or Obelix. You make your way through platform levels, fighting enemies by punching them, and jumping to access higher ares or to avoid falling down. There are also some items you can collect, such as bombs, with which you can overcome obstacles and advance in the game.
Nice graphics, with some of the best sprites on the Master System, but the platform gameplay is just a bit too predictable. |

Asterix and the Secret Mission » Sega-Master-System » Discuss » Plays: 298
Asterix and the Secret Mission is yet another platform game based on the French comic character. Much like Asterix, every level can be played as Asterix or Obelix, his clinically obese friend, and again the levels are different depending on which character you choose. There are 5 or 6 levels this time, far fewer than in Asterix, and again they are fairly simple, cliche-ridden platform levels - enjoyable, if you like platformers, but hardly ground-breaking. The plot this time is that you must collect the ingredients needed for a magic potion... one per level. You have to find the ingredient before you can exit a level. Overall, it varies from easy to tricky, and occasionally veers towards originality, but in the end is Yet Another SMS Platformer. |

A classic Asterix & Obelix game where you simultaneously play as (both) Asterix and Obelix maintaining their favorite Gaulish sport of thumping the living daylights out of Roman soldiers.
The objective of the game is to help Asterix "stun" Roman soldiers (simply by running into them, and they turn white from blue) while you command good ol'Obelix to throws his oversized Menhirs down at stunned Romans with a splat.
If by any chance a stunned soldier is not whacked by a flying menhir, they turn "red" and hostile, which means Asterix is in trouble. In any case, he needs some good ol' magic potion from Getafix in order to defeat the "red" Romans, so be ready to catch some when Getafix comes knocking.
There are 2 types of Roman soldiers to thump: the fat legionnaires and the small centurions. Centurions are worth more points. |

A platform game starring Tin Tin. Tintin in Tibet follows on the heel of Infograme's Asterix & Obelix, with the same gameplay. Although the game will prove easy for the expert gamer, there are many levels to pass, each of which features new locations, enemies, and obstacles that serve to advance the storyline. |
