ER Visit
Sooo, Once again I find myself In the ER earlier last night. Hereditary problems are really starting to show themselves. I will be 30 In april but It really feels like im turning 50 because of my back. My mother and cousin have The Triple " D " disease and I think I may have it. Not to mention I already know I have that is bugging me right now; Scoliosis , 2 Herniated Disc , And Sciatica. I now have a date with the surgeon Jan. 28th for an MRI , And then he will be making his decision to cut me open or not. Man this really sucks and I don't wish this upon ANYONE! I have 3 kids and a wife not to mention that I have to be active for. Is anyone else experiencing stuff like this or has had a terrible accident in 2013 that you would like to talk about? Im all ears... Just remember, All you Guys/Gals That are still in school please do not quit and proceed with hard manual labor just to get an early job, Get that education!!

Re: ER Visit
I'm sorry you suffer with such back pain I know it can be horrible. I had a friend who was in constant pain because of disc problems and even with that she was forced to stand at work all day until she couldn't take it anymore and quit. I believe she was too proud(or stupid) to get a doctors note so she could sit or take more breaks off her feet.
Maybe in the near future you can get one of these to help?
You could be one of the first cyborgs. Gotta look at the silver lining right?

Re: ER Visit
Having a bad back sucks. Hopefully they can figure it out and get you fixed up.
I had Sciatica so bad that I couldn't stand more than a minute or two. I was told it could be fixed with physical therapy and exercise so I tried that but it was just a waste of time. Finally my doctor referred me to a neurologist who gave me the option of surgery. I had a Microdiscectomy about 10 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made. It's a laser surgery and I didn't even spend the night at a hospital. I was out of work for about 2 weeks but I work an office job so it could be longer if you do something more physical. Hopefully something like this can fix you up because it's not nearly as bad as what people think when they hear "back surgery".
Microdiscectomy (Microdecompression) Spine Surgery

Re: ER Visit
You know what D.B.? That really does sound like what i need. My work isn't too bad any more now that I have hooked up with UPS, however i did tear myself up in the past laboring for mason crews , building houses and then Scalloping ( Commercial Fishing ). The thing is i stretch at home every day and right before we start work ( That's Mandatory ) Im just going to try to stress the fact that i want the surgery to the Dr. I know the Physical Therapy isn't going to work, I just want to knock it out!

Re: ER Visit
Funny because this conversation made me paranoid about my back. I get random bouts of lower back pain sometimes and it is pretty painful. Not in a sharp pain kinda way but a kind of radiating sensation that passes in like 5-10 minutes. It's pretty infrequent but I had a bad fall a few years ago and I'm thinking I might've hurt more than just my ankle and knee.

Re: ER Visit
If I sleep wrong, my neck hurts for a day or 2, that's pretty much the extent of my pain.

Re: ER Visit
Sad to hear about your health issues. I've had my share of health problems as well. The extent of my back pain is pretty minor, it'd suck to think how much yours is hurting :/

Re: ER Visit
Hi JLD, I am getting on there myself, being one of the older people here, and I 'feel your pain' as it were.
In my experience, construction and other physically demanding jobs should be left to younger men.
This is why the Journeymen have Apprentices; other than the obvious training of the younger man in the field he is there to do the grunt work.
Tell those youngsters to get off the i phone and get busy!
{joking}
SERIOUSLY, there comes a time in some peoples' lives when they must pull over into the 'slow lane' and take it easy from then on.
I am in that situation myself, as are most of the people I know.
It is a blow to ones' pride, especially if you had been active most of the time beforehand and must decrease your personal activity as a result of arising conditions.
No fun, and it tends to make one feel really old all of a sudden.
But there is no shame in it, and just because your mobility is decreased doesn't mean you have lost any value as a person.
I sincerely hope surgery can be avoided in your case and I wish you better health in any event.

And for the love of god, be careful with your prescriptions. (the USA uses 80% of the worlds prescription medicine, it's out of control)

Re: ER Visit
@stevencassidy13....That is true! The sad thing is that people that abuse these prescriptions completely ruin it for the ones who actually need it. In the long run, the docs want to give you something synthetic that they claim works better but in all actuality does not. These new " Man-Made " pain pills are just another form of addiction in my book. If theres a will, theres a way, people will find a way to abuse them. The only thing that seems to work for me is the percocet they give me but the docs are very watchful on these kinds of narcotics. I hate being on them , i wish I was 15 again...lol

UPDATE: So I go to work this morning ( With my docs note ) and was pulled into the office. Turns out now I have to see the company doctor for a Fit -For-Duty evaluation, Well I know how this is going to end up....smh , My MRI appt. is Jan 28th So it looks like I won't be working until then, This is going to suck!
