if you check youtube right now, the whole layout is completely messed up. Youtube says its "for the better" but the layout is just horrible. Here's why:
1: no more star ratings, now there is only "liked it" and "didn't like it"
2: subscription button and video description are in completely different, more inconvenient places.
3: Harder to leave a comment.
4: no more Home button at the top of the screen, meanig you have to type in youtube.com to get back to it
But one has to wonder, is it a coincidence that the new layout happened at around 7:00 P.M. Central time, which is April 1st for many other Youtubers? It seems a bit fishy to me.
I hadn't gone on youtube until I saw this... the part with the more videos from same author is gone too... that might be the only thing I don't like, the rest I don't really care about much because I don't go on youtube that much
i think its not a horrible idea, as long as you could change back if ya wanted to. they may be up to something though.... does anyone know what they did last year?
I'm pretty sure this is for real, I think there joke for this year is the random "textP" option which is cool I suppose, but serves no real significance =P.
As for the new layout, I really don't see what's wrong with it.

1. Ditching the star system and hiding the ratings from the public prevents popularity contests among videos, a good thing in my opinion.
2. Video description is right below the video in a box, subscription actually has a button now instead of being just blue hyperlinked text.
3. Really? Just type in the now automatically exposed comment box and hit "Post"....
4. Or you could hit the big "Youtube" button, at the moment it's wierd because of the "textp" joke going on, but it should be back to normal after April Fool's, it still goes back to the main page.
Overall I think their intention was to put the focus on the video, instead of all the other things. Comments, video info, and statistics will only be read by people actively looking for it. I don't think it's bad at all.
Well, half of the time the comment box would say error.
another thing about the comments...
they are all in a jumbled mess, and the comments are now listed in order of highest rated. All I want is for Youtube to make the new layout an option, and not a forced decision.
I was reading an article on CNN about Topeka and came upon this:
YouTube saves a buck or two
Forget high-definition. It's time for text-only video.
YouTube said Thursday that new bandwidth-sucking video technology is cutting into its profits, so it's now offering TEXTp, a low-tech, text-only mode that looks like a grainy cross between "The Matrix" and when satellite interference is screwing up your TV reception.
Users could switch to the joke mode on at least some videos by clicking on 480, the default bandwidth, and scrolling up to TEXTp.
"By using text-only mode, you are saving YouTube $1 a second in bandwidth costs," read a message that appears when viewing in TEXTp. "Click here to go back to regular YouTube and happy April Fools Day!"
well, i kinda liked the text only video, looks pretty cool.
If Youtube changed only one thing about the layout, i would want to see how many people liked the video before i watch it, so i wouldn't waste my time with a bad video.
