Le Bron James announces ... he's going to Miami!
You know that the title of this thread is just a draw, a lure to get you to pay attention to the message contained herein.
I apologize for deceiving you in this way, but I find this video makes a point that I've been trying to make for a very long time now:

All we in the NAU seem to care about is our entertainment, and it's the people involved in that entertainment who we look on as social icons.
Jim Carrey's movie Cable Guy illustrates the problem at hand perfectly.

By itself that situation wouldn't be so bad, and I'm not saying that I think entertainment is bad, but I think we've reached a point where its distraction from important matters has gone too far.
It's carried us too far away from those things that should be more important to us, and it took a very long time to bring us to this point but yet here we are.

History repeats itself, and we can learn from it if we would only pay attention to it.
That is the point of this video: that no one seems to give a shit about historical facts anymore, and that is mainly because we're too busy hearing about how Janet Jackson flashed her breasts to the audience, or how Lady Ga Ga may really be a man, or whether Tiger Woods is faithful to his wife, or whether {politician/ celebrity} is coming to town, or how some 16 year old daughter of millionaires got stranded at sea ...

... or any other unimportant facts and issues of no significance that they're constantly shoving in the public eye, for the past 60 years.

I don't even watch TV, and I'm exposed to this sort of thing through the tabloids at the supermarket checkout stand, and through hearing other people talking about these ridiculous events and the people involved in them.

Look, I know history can be boring, especially the way it's presented in school, but I think now is the time that we need to look at some historical examples to gain understanding of current events.

In particular I'm talking about examining the conditions that brought about the 'great depression' of the 1930's - most people wouldn't know because of the reasons I mentioned that the economic situation we're facing today is a carbon copy of those conditions but on a much larger scale.

Not only are we facing a depression even worse than the last one when the economy was collapsed but the situation is compounded by the fact that not many of us grow our own food crops or own farm animals so we might be able to sustain ourselves, like some of the families in the 30's were fortunate enough to.

In conjunction with that fact we need to look at the Reichstag fire in Germany on February 27, 1933.
Newspapers reported that the German Parliament building was set on fire by a Polish spy, and that was the excuse used by Hitler to invade Poland.
Later Hitler confessed that he ordered the fire set, in order to gain public support for his war campaign.

We've all seen a modern historical example of this event.
We know it as 9/11 - the present day Reichstag fire.
Instead of Poland, it was Iraq, Afghanistan, and now it looks like Iran is next.
But we're all too distracted too notice or care, it seems.
