Leave Your Thoughts About The Spirits Within for the Next Episode of Retronauts

In 2001, Square seemed primed to take on the world; the company made a major mark on the industry during that heady, unpredictable 32-bit era, and would soon clean up with a string of amazing games for the then-new PlayStation 2. So it's understandable how all of this success could go to their head -- and no greater proof exists than Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, a cinematic bomb that borrowed the Final Fantasy name, but none of the elements that made Square's RPG series so beloved. The Spirits Within marked the end of Square's salad days, the departure of Final Fantasy creator (and Spirits director) Hironobu Sakaguchi, and the beginning of development problems that would stall some of the company's most popular series. But is The Spirits Within to blame for all of this misfortune? We plan to find out on the very next episode of Retronauts.

That's right: we're returning briefly to the Movie Month format (as seen in episodes 40-43), and, as expected, we'd like to hear your comments on the movie in question. Was The Spirits Within a cinematic treasure, a confused jumble, or simply bland as all get-out? We'd like to hear from you! Leave your thoughts about the film in the comments section below, and we'll do our best to respond to them during the episode -- but make sure you post them by Tuesday, August 31 at 12:00pm PST. See you then, and be sure to check out the trailer below if all you remember from Spirits is that odd Maxim bikini pin-up featuring the main character.
