An Important Retronauts Podcast Announcement

Your average Retronauts fan, more than one month without a new podcast. (Image courtesy of Supper Mario Broth.)

In the month-or-so since the last episode of Retronauts, I've received e-mails, tweets, private messages, and mysterious, disembodied whispers in my bedroom about the fate of 1UP's classic gaming podcast. And, to be honest, I haven't been able to say much more than "it isn't dead," because that's about all I knew. Since we came back from our recent holiday break, I've been trying to fit into my new role as 1UP's video guy, which has stolen away most of the time I'd normally use to produce a podcast released on a semi-regular basis. But as a fellow fan of the medium whose heart aches whenever a show goes on (an often unannounced) hiatus, I feel your pain -- which is why I've decided to turn Retronauts into a monthly podcast starting this February.

That's right, after today you can look forward to a new episode of Retronauts on the first weekday of every month, and since these episodes won't be arriving as often as they have in the past, I'd really like for each one to feel special. So I turn to you, Retronauts listeners: what changes would you like to see? More interviews? A greater focus on specific games? Intrusive sponsorships from corn-based snacks and beverages? Celebrities embarrassing themselves publicly? While the next episode of Retronauts will take the format you've come to know and love, starting in March, I'd really like to experiment more with the potential of podcasting -- as you've no doubt heard in the two Christmas episodes. And since I'll have more time to plan and tinker, we could very well discover exciting and innovative new ways to live in the past!

That said, if you find the prospect of a monthly release schedule disappointing, don't worry; we'll still have plenty of text and video content branded with the Retronauts name, which should ease the pain brought by having to wait 30 days for a podcast. So please, let me know where you'd like to see Retronauts go in the future -- and I'll keep up my part of the bargain by continuing to complain about Virtual Console.
