international food

Every nation and people has contributed in some way to international cuisine, but which cultures, peoples and civilizations have the greatest influence on the cuisines of the world, both historically and currently, in terms of how we cook and preserve food?

I would say Mesoamerica, India, China, and Rome are at the top historically, because most modern cooking methods can be traced back to those of these nations. Peru is also a major influence on kinds of foods which we eat.

I am once again unsure whether this belongs in "Chat" or "Debate," so you can give your opinions on that as well.

That section is for topics that are controversial and will ideally generate heated discussion. If a chat topic becomes a debate it can be moved very easily.

Disregard everything else. In the history of food, there is only the 4th Earl of Sandwich.

Re: international food

I'll add a few ideas here. The indigenous Americans of the south east region, such as Georgia and Alabama, developed forms of cooking and agriculture which influenced modern North American cooking to this day (Despite whether Europeans believe that there wasn't any "cuisine" here before they came). Also, indigenous Peoples of countries such as Ghana and Benin, and other peoples of the "Gold Coast" have influenced other African nations as well as American nations. Finally, countries of western Europe, such as Britain and France have brought these foods worldwide, so they've contributed to this as well, although it's also been detrimental to indigenous foods of various nations, and still some native foods are underappreciated.

One more thing. Although French is considered to be a prominent cuisine, I've yet to learn how much more it has contributed to world cuisine than any of these other nations and cultures.
