Dual Power Supply?

Kid wants to upgrade his video card. I did a custom build PC for him, and he's got a decent NVIDIA card right now. Power supply, though, is probably close to maxed out - it was lower-end PSU. I know it's easier just to upgrade the PSU, but has anyone done dual PSUs - one dedicated to the Gfx card? Or, is that just a stupid idea I've seen floating around?

Re: Dual Power Supply?

You need something like this.
https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-2.../dp/B00O0M6Q0C

Make sure the pin count matches.

I have these that I would sell you. Both were used for about a week and then placed in storage for 2 years. Still in box and recently tested and still work. Either should be enough to power most systems on their own.

Coolmax 1200W ATX12V v2.3 /EPS 12V v2.92 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply-Newegg.com

AZZA Titan 1000W PSAZ-1000A14 ATX & EPS 12V v2.92 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply-Newegg.com

I'd sell the first for $80. Second for $40. Plus shipping.
