It's OK, though, because you can always hit up the internet for some of Hasbro's Nintendo trophy figures, straight from the late '80s!

Yes, Nintendo merchandise was quite eccentric back then, featuring everything from Zelda foot lockers to Mario shower heads. These Nintendo "Trophy Figures" were probably the least insane products, though. Besides giving you a lovingly crafted scene direct from Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, or Punch-Out, they also had small labels on which you would write your high scores or some other accomplishment (I have no idea what you were supposed to be rewarded for with the Zelda ones).

Who knows if anyone was given these ceremoniously -- when I was a kid, I just wanted them because they were freakin' Mario toys. It'd probably be more than a little awkward if my mom and dad were keeping one in the closet until I finally crossed 678,000 points in Mario, and then presented me with the trophy and dinner at a buffet restaurant.

Three things I love about these trophies:


The explanatory names they're given, in case you have no idea what the hell is going on in the depicted scenes (and, let's face it: if you're a parent, you definitely wouldn't). They're direct to the point of charming. "Mario Stomps the Goombas." "Bowser Guards Princess Toadstool." "Link Begrudgingly Grinds for Rupees Just So He Can Afford the Stupid Red Ring."
They're violent. OK, Zelda and Punch-Out already have their violent moments, but the Mario ones... wow. Mario stomping on three (presumably innocent) Goombas? Kicking a Hammer Brother right in the chin? Bowser thrashing Peach around (http://themushroomkingdom.net/images/merch/toys_hasbro_smbbowserpeach.jpg)? Mario "hurling" a fireball (http://themushroomkingdom.net/images/merch/toys_hasbro_smbfireball.jpg)?
You'd be hard pressed to find any Mario merchandise this interpretive ever again.
The incredibly terrible "graphics" on the boxes. Very '80s, yes, but not even good '80s. But I love that.

So, chin up. You could have some shiny figurine of the Mario cast, or something actually badass. Or Mario getting goosed by a Blooper.

The coins are a friggin rip, Ive got over 40 ds titles 2 ds's, a wii with 6 or 7 games, and the after-years gave me some coin, grand total: 170 coins.

I picked up the nintendo power calendar, it's pretty cool, a buddy sent me a copy for my birthday also, but I gave my extra to fungusman,.

You must not be playing the system right, I have 960 right now, if you add in the 800 I spent on Zelda posters I've gotten 1760 total. I still have surveys backlogged to add to start coining up for the next year.
They only have crappy prizes though. Why can't we have game soundtracks like Japan =/?

Okay so I finished up my surveys and now have 290 coins, I think maybe Canadians have a different set of prizes than the U.S., because our prizes mostly suck:
Wii-mote holder -retarded
Various greeting cards sets -retarded
A few posters -350 coins for a couple pieces of paper? retarded
Various cases for cards/ds's/ds'games -retarded
Game and watch collections -would play them for 5 minutes tops so retarded

The only things I would want would be the playing cards and the hanafuda cards, and I didn't see any figures any where.

Here's my stance...

If a company makes no effort to make a product available for sale here, and the only ways for me to get it is to pay for an overpriced import or to download it, I think I would rather teach them a lesson and get it free. I would be totally willing to pay for it if it was available, and if it ever ends up for sale I will get it, However, this isn't possible, and if the company won't make many any effort to make it available from an official source, then I'm not going to make any effort to try and get it from them.

In this case, this soundtrack is a prize for Club Nintendo in Japan. It is not for sale. Therefore Nintendo loses 0 profit from me getting it.

Alternatively I could record the songs off of my console, which is better any because I can get an uncompressed .wav file out of it rather than a crappy .mp3 file.
If you're going to tell me that I can't record the sound output from my machine with my equipment, I honestly won't care and will happily continue doing it =D.

If you bought Mario Galaxy than you should be allowed to do whatever you want with that disc and any of the files it contains if it is for personal use, including extracting the music on it to your mp3 player or what not.

I have the same stance with games. If I buy a PSP game, I should be able to make a backup of the files on the disc and use those files to play the game without the disk, in that case I own the disk, I own the disk, I own the files, I own the files, I can use them at my discretion.

If there is zero profit lost it shouldn't be an issue.
The CD isn't for sale here, or there for that matter.
Nintendo makes zero profit off the CD from anyone.
Nintendo loses no profit when you download it.
No problem.


If a game is unavailable in the county you live in, then the company cannot lose profit from you downloading it, because they'd never make profit from the game on people of that county anyway.

Now that I think of it, it is the same thing as buying a CD, then putting it on your computer to listen to it.

At least the DS Lite still had every ability the normal DS had, the PSP Go does not support UMDs. So basically, you have to rely entirely on PSN, hoping they sell the game you want on it.
