Excellent FAQ, it pretty much sums up everything known about the device so far. If I may suggest, I think you should include a single picture of the unit in your post, or link to them.

"Nintendo has already announced a list of 74 games that are currently in development for the 3DS."

"...it'll just download automatically to your DS the next time it finds a Wi-Fi connection. Imagine starting up a Smash Bros game, for example, and getting a message saying "A new challenger appears!", and realise it's downloaded a brand new character."

74 games... holy crap!!!! And I can't wait to crack open my 3DS some night and see my game has magically grown.
I think I'll be camping out for this one, I've never camped out for anything before.

I hadn't bought a DS but 3DS sounds excellent... sort of... just one question... it has backward compatibility with DS... but does it have backward compatibility with the older gameboy games? I have a box full of gb, gbc, gba games that I'd really like to be able to play without having to carry around my gba

samejamesbond
06-18-2010, 07:06 PM
It would be nice, but I doubt it.

Beacuse it has two slots and the new games for the 3DS are different, the extra slot is for the
DS. But at least a GBA can't be too expensive nowadays.

No. I wouldn't expect anything in the future to support GB/GBC/GBA games ever again.

Slime Slayer

So is that good?

Seahawk
06-21-2010, 08:05 PM
It is quite a step up from the original DS, which is limited to only 2048 poloygons and has no true framebuffer.

There are also more options for pixels' colors, the original DS's only pixel format is 6 bits each for red, green, and blue components, giving 262,144 possible colors.
The new DS gives different modes that take up less graphic memory, or you can go all out and give each pixel 8 bit resolution + an 8 bit alpha component, for 16.8 million colors, plus more with alpha enabled.

Many more graphics operations are supported by the hardware, and probably in a much nicer way than in the standard DS. A 4095x4095 size framebuffer is pretty large for a screen thats only 400x240.

Even without knowing the CPU, the graphics performace is pretty close to last gen systems.

Demon-Mask

Even without knowing the CPU, the graphics performace is pretty close to last gen systems.
It almost seems the graphics will be better, seeing as the original DS could use the processors devoted to each screen on just one screen to produce amazing graphics at times, I'm sure this one can do the same.

Seahawk

It almost seems the graphics will be better, seeing as the original DS could use the processors devoted to each screen on just one screen to produce amazing graphics at times, I'm sure this one can do the same.

The DS does not have a processor assigned to each screen, both screens are controlled entirely by a single CPU, the ARM9. Consequently most game code is also executed on the ARM9.

The other CPU, the ARM7, handles sound output, touch screen input, and wireless communications.

Technical details aside, it certainly seems that the demos for 3DS look equal or slightly higher than last gen systems, but remember that these are demos, they could be pre-rendered graphics.

Demon-Mask
06-22-2010, 04:13 PM
Oh, I remember now, the one processor had to be divided between two screens, and by using all of the power on one screen, the DS could execute better graphics.

Seahawk
06-22-2010, 07:48 PM
It the game you are talking about has 3D polygon graphics, then yes, because by design the DS can only output 3D to a single screen at a time. 2D graphics are composed of a typical tilemap/sprite system, and can be done simulatenously on both screens.

This is a problem that is more noticable in early DS games (Final Fantasy III, Megaman ZX) in which the bottom screen is either blank or displays some non-moving artwork.

Demon-Mask
06-23-2010, 02:57 AM
Actually FF III was the game I was thinking of. I realized something was "off" about the way the graphics were presented, especially in the intro movie. When I saw it, I looked it up.

Seahawk
06-23-2010, 03:16 AM
The intro movie is likely a pre-rendered movie, although it is also possible the programmers could have been using the system at full power since there is no collision detection, math calculation or other things that happen during normal gameplay. In DS world, after all the 3D rendering is complete, the final result is output as a background layer, and can be displayed above or below the other 2D layers.

If you're interested, here is a very techincal document on the specs of the GBA and DS.

If you understand that document then you should be able to write your own GBA programs like I did =P. DS stuff is out of my league because code cannot be executed from the cartridge, it must be in RAM, and figuring out how to manage the memory is too much for one person really.

Time for a news bump:

New Nintendo 3DS Hardware Info

IGN has learned that the Nintendo 3DS will pack not one, but two 266MHz ARM11 CPUs, along with a 133MHz GPU, 4MBs of dedicated VRAM, 64MBs of RAM, and 1.5GBs of flash storage. The information comes from persons familiar with the hardware who spoke to us under the condition of anonymity.

While we were unable to determine which variation of the ARM11 processors the 3DS will feature, we now have a better sense of the system's capabilities. Currently there are a number of devices being powered by the ARM11, including the Zune HD, a variety of Android smartphones, and prior to the introduction of Apple's A4 processor, the iPhone and iPod touch.

As we learned in June (http://ds.ign.com/articles/110/1100568p1.html), the 3DS' GPU has been named DMP's PICA200, which features a maximum processing speed of roughly 200MHz, though it seems Nintendo is scaling it back a bit for use in the 3DS.

The handheld will also have substantially larger storage capacity than preceding models, jumping from only 256MBs on the DSi to 1.5GBs of flash memory on the 3DS. The total drive space can, of course, be expanded using the 3DS' SD card slot.

Later I'll make a table comparing the current known specs to the normal DS, and current home consoles.

Can you also estimate what other systems it may be able to emulate?

Demon-Mask
09-21-2010, 07:25 PM
My guess is that it should be capable of running emulators of the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube.
Even then I anticipate it will run a little bit slow. You need a significant jump in power to successfully emulate something. Like how the SNES emulators on the Dreamcast ran a bit slow. You need that extra power.

You also have to keep in mind though the deficiencies of the controller. Like how the PSP is capable of running N64 emulators, but it doesn't have enough buttons to make it worth playing.

Slime Slayer
09-21-2010, 07:36 PM
I guess it will easily emulate what I'd want to to, want i'd really like to see is a working version of mame on it, I struggled with the one on wii for the last few days and I came to the conclusion that it just sucks.

Theoretically, it should be able to run MAME.
The PSP Slim (The one with the 64 MB of RAM) can run MAME no problems, so from that it, it appears as though the 3DS would be able to run MAME.

Seahawk
09-22-2010, 06:16 PM
Since the internets are hotly in debate about whether these specs are genuine, I will point out that none of the 3DS specs are official until Nintendo makes an announcement.

In my personal opninion I'd say they're pretty reasonable.
These CPU speed in particular continues the tradition of being a multiple of Nintendo's previous handhelds.

Gameboy> GBColor> GBAdv.> DS(ARM7) > DS(ARM9)> None > 3DS
4.19MHz > 8.4MHz > 16.78MHz > 33.5MHz > 67 MHz > (134MHz) > 266MHz

I like how it has more video memory than the Wii, for a smaller screen >_>;. But I hate how people are rating it as underpowered compared to the iPad/iPhone--this is a game machine, not a freaking computer running an OS and phone in the background. Sorry, I had to get that off of my chest.

Apologies in advance for messy post.

Most important news:

LAUNCH DATE:
FEBRUARY 26, 2011 IN JAPAN @ 25,000 YEN
MARCH 2011 FOR USA/EUROPE

OFFICIAL DESIGN:
http://www.wiinintendo.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/3DS-final-design.png
The system will be available in Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black.

Highlights:
Mii Studio:
There are more than 180 million Mii characters out there worldwide, according to Iwata. Mii Studio can be used to make the Mii experience simpler: you can use the system's camera to take a picture of your face, which then can be used as a template to adjust the various Mii face parts to customize the Mii.

http://nintendoworldwide.weebly.com/uploads/4/9/6/8/4968653/9477310.jpg?408

Mii characters can then be converted into a QR Code that you can print out or post on a website so you can share your Mii in a different way: friends use their 3DS cameras to take a picture of the code and instantly retrieve your Mii. There is also a Tag Mode Mii Plaza so you can see all the Mii characters you've collected wirelessly.

Virtual Console:
- 3DS will come with a 2 GB SD card packed in.
- VIRTUAL CONSOLE CONFIRMED FOR GAME BOY AND GAME BOY ADVANCE GAMES!
- Title shown include Mario Land and Link’s Awakening DX.
- Also selling “Classic Games” viewed in 3D!

System Wi-Fi + related:
- Iwata introduces something called “Itsu no ma ni Tsuushin”.
- This feature has the system automatically download new rankings, new ghost data, new free software, notices from Nintendo and more, all through Wi-Fi.
- You can actually use this feature anywhere, including DS Download Stations and Nintendo Zones… and even McDonalds!
- NTT partnering with Nintendo for Wi-Fi hotspots around Japan, starting sometime in 2011.
- Iwata says they want to deliver new experiences every day using this Itsunoma ni Tsuushin feature.

The "tag mode" enables the system to talk with other 3DS systems while they are in sleep mode. Data will transfer between the devices no matter which game is plugged into the system. All games can (and possibly will) support this function on the 3DS.

Nintendo has partnered with Fuji TV to distribute free 3D videos to users on an experimental basis.

The 3DS also appears to have multi-tasking function: you'll be able to hit the home button mid-game and launch certain programs, such as a "Memory Notebook" or pull up your playtime or see the amount of steps you've taken (possibly confirming the system features a pedometer built-in).

There also seems to be a cradle that you can set the system into. That system cradle we saw at E3 will allow you to have faster internet downloads apparently when you put the 3DS on it. Details on this forthcoming.

Games + related:
Iwata admitted during the conference that in the past, very few third party games sell on Nintendo consoles and handhelds. It’s true that Wii third party game sales are low in Japan and the first year of Nintendo DS software sales was all Nintendo, but this has since changed. It didn’t go as well as planned with Wii, so they’re fixing the problem with the 3DS. The company will be taking a stronger initiative in helping third-party games sell on the 3DS.

In a developer interview shown at the conference, Namco Bandai's Sakagami notes that he would like to use Tag Mode for rankings and exchanging ghost data in Ridge Racer 3D.

Also in this developer interview video, Yoshinori Ono from Capcom says that they wanted to make a Street Fighter where you can battle anywhere. According to him, you'll be able to use Wi-Fi to receive fight requests wherever you are.

-A guy from Capcom says that Resident Evil Revelations is “pure horror.” He believes players will be excited to play it in 3D.
- Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D is also in development.
- Level-5 believes that by using the 3DS’s 3D capabilities, puzzle solving will become more direct for the layer. CEO Akihiro Hino says that they’re putting their power into 3DS development.
- Tetsuya Nomura said “starting with Kingdom Hearts, we’d like to release a number of titles on 3DS.”
- Hideo Kojima has lots of ideas for the 3D screen and Tag Mode. Snake Eater will “camouflage” the functionality.
- Samurai Warriors Chronicle will take advantage of the 3D effect in cutscenes. Think flying bullets.
- Companies giving praise for the 3DS’s hardware.

Showed video reel of various 3DS games, including Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Ocarina of Time, Chocobo Racing, PilotWings Resort, Metal Gear Solid, Ridge Racer, Professor Layton, Star Fox 64, Zelda…

And then the conference ended.

Probably more info tomorrow and video footage and screenshots come out. But you heard it heard first =)!

Tenser you get a +1 just for posting the first videos of game footage I've seen on the internet.

So give me a simple answer, is this more powerful than the PSP?

Judging on the numbers we know so far I'd say yes.

Hawk, North America price is announced.

???
That's the price in Japan.......and that's the same material I wrote. A simply currency conversion shouldn't be called an official price since stuff gets sold in different regions at entire different prices. Or did I miss something?

Either way I'd say 300$ is a bit too much. 250$ sounds more reasonable, make it 200$ and I'm sold.

Winnebagel
09-29-2010, 01:40 PM
I don't mean to be a snob about it, but it seems to me that this could be more revolutionary than the Wii was. It could take gaming to a whole other level.

I guess I was more prepared for the price as alot of people were already predicting this. Wasn't PSP $250.00 when it launched? This is not that far off and will do a lot more in my view.

---------- Post added at 02:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:39 PM ----------

I should also add, I am an admitted complete nerd for 3D, so I would pay a lot for a machine like this.

Kugyince

Nintendo systems always MSRP in NA lower than the yen/dollar conversion rate. The only time this has not happened was with the Wii. Instead they packed in Wii Sports which wasn't a pack-in in Japan.

It could take gaming to a whole other level.
It could easily fail horribly.

I posted those links for those interested in more information about the 3DS, not as some response to your post.

Doesn't everybody?
Are you making some sad attempt to troll?

It was meant as a troll to an extent, I just meant to state that it has the potential to be bad, just as everything else that has ever been produced by any company or man since the beginning of time, it is absolutely not immune to failure. Nothing is and nothing ever will be. But when I realized what kind of reaction me just posting a picture got, I figured why not finish what I started and troll just a bit.

I'm not going to respond to someone who seriously entertains the idea of comparing the 3DS to the Virtual Boy just as I wouldn't respond to someone who's comparing the PSP to the LYNX.
Not seriously entertaining the fact, just saying that there is a very small chance that it could turn out the same.
I agree with Tenser, the 3DS looks far superior to the Virtual Boy.
It certainly does.
Anybody who even entertains the thought that this system will fail, hasn't been following the industry for long enough. Thank you for the links Ten.
I have been following the industry for as long as I could read, so probably twelve years or something, I don't think it will fail, but it is a possibility.

And to think, this all started at my displeasure regarding the obscene price of the 3DS.

Seriously, the only thing I would ever spend $300 on:
A car
A house
Rent for said house, or lease for said car per month
A college education
Monthly cost of student loans for said college education

A piece of technology that will be obsolete within ten years of it being released isn't the best way to spend so much money, in my opinion. Of course I was raised to be a bit wary of spending my money on such luxuries.

Whatever, people will buy it, Nintendo will make way more money than they should, and the higher-ups in the company that play little to no role in the actual design and development of these products will get an obscene portion of Nintendo's obscene profits, so it all works out in the end.

That and it will give me the next used console I will by for a small portion of the initial price.

Horse trading is an idiom used to describe negotiations, especially where these are difficult and involve a lot of compromise.
If so I'm lost on what you're trying to say since "fanboy" and "compromise" do not go together. Btw, aren't you a proud fanboy?

Also what does xbox have to do with this? I wasn't aware that microsoft has a handheld. I think you mean just PSP fanboys. I mean obviously you just wanted to troll but I felt I should correct you a little.

Btw is this actually 3D just like every other system since like forever ago? I was under the impression that we'd be seeing actual 3D like the current trend with movies. The trailers I saw for the 3DS games look like PSP games, why is everyone so excited?

It's all flat and simulated footage because your monitor is not a 3D display built to handle 3DS video.

The DSi has no gyroscope or whatever to detect tilt like in the fake video you posted. Still fail.

The real 3D effect is like in this video.
YouTube - Nintendo 3DS at Nintendo Conference 2010

At 18 seconds, if you pause it you will see two of the same image. This is the 3D effect. It's imperfect because you are viewing it in a 2D video and because the camera is not in the sweet spot for optimal 3D viewing.

So we can't even tell how good this is unless we see it in person? If that's the case then how many games will actually use 3D in a meaningful way? I don't mean just the presentation I mean actually allowing a 3D environment that's interactive and innovative? Also does this mean they'll stop making non 3D games for DS? For example the new Professor Layton game is announced but is it gonna be for both or will my gf need to blow 250-300 just to use it on a system that will probably only make use of it in a minor way(for that particular game)?

Yep. You'll have to wait until you can try a demo at a store to make an informed decision.

That's up to the game developers. Also that question of interactivity and innovation has been the test of games since the Odyssey came out.

The original DS line is on its way out. There are very few big games (if any) left to ship on the platform. Developers are ready to move on as well: they're looking for that fresh start on a platform that's big news, and a platform that isn't plagued with rampant piracy. It's been a great ride since 2004 but the end for it is nigh.

....Damn I remember playing it back then too -.-. I feel old now.

Sure it's cool to add motion controls but I felt like it was mostly a gimmick and I ended up playing most games without it. I'm just curious if this will feel like a gimmick, are they're gonna learn from the Wii or continue to cater to mostly casual gamers.

I have no idea. Personally I'm hoping Nintendo puts its foot down and stops low quality games from getting on the thing. Seriously probably 90% of the Wii library is shovelware. It's embarassing to look at the shelves for Wii games at stores. It'll also stop 3rd parties from crying that their 5$ game doesn't sell.

Well that's annoying. So my perfectly good DSlite will be next to useless soon? Sony is still making games for PS2, I guess Nintendo can't handle that kind of thing?

Sony is done with the PS2, as seen by all efforts to not allow backwards compatibility on the PS3. The "new" PS2 games are mainly either cheap shovelware or the continuing line of sports games (Madden, FIFA, etc.) put there by 3rd parties because at this point development is so cheap that it is basically free money to put it in a store. The reason PS2 lasted so long is because PS3 was so damn expensive for the longest time, meanwhile everyone already had a PS2. 2008 was really the last year for PS2.
It's possible you might get thrown a bone for the normal DS every now and then, but it's increasingly unlikely because the DS is severely underpowered compared to iPhones, iPads, whatever hip electronic product everyone has. It's just good business.
Either way everyone is moving on and mainstream development for it is going to stop in most studios pretty soon if it hasn't already. With the new Pokemon Black/White recently released Nintendo is pretty much done with it.

It's refreshing to hear someone be honest about it. I see so much crap for the Wii and then I hear all these fanboys denying it like it's not painfully obvious. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes and worry more about quality and ignore quantity. If they do it might bring back some of the gamers they lost when it became obvious that the Wii wasn't making games for them. Not everyone is a nintendo fanboy or a casual family gamer right?

Is the 3DS compatible with normal DS games at least? If so I might be tempted to do one of those system trade ins at launch.

As I said it's more 3rd parties that are doing this. Nintendo didn't help with their early 'casual' titles, and once the system's reputation was locked in place, most 'hardcore' gamers fled, so there's no market for big action titles that you see on other platforms.

You have to dig deep to find good stuff for the Wii. But they're there.
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Sin & Punishment 2
No More Heroes 1, 2
Klonoa
Okami
Wiiware titles (Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth, Cave Story, etc)

Just a sample of underrated gems nobody bought. But that's for another thread.

That and my DS lite was in pretty bad shape, with a broken hinge only surviving by some glue.

Nintendo will return to CES after 16 years.

CES which takes place in Vegas Jan 6th through 9th is the most likely place and time Nintendo will announce an official release date, price, and line up on the 3DS for the North American region.

After a 16-year hiatus, Nintendo will be returning to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) as an exhibitor in January 2011. It's expected the Nintendo 3DS, which is slated for release in March, will be a major focus for the company as it prepares for a worldwide launch.

Though I have tried to beat this game with the lowest amount of points possible, I've only ever managed to beat the game with 17 points or so.

17 sounds about right.

The lowest score would be:

Corneria - 1 point (the boss after waiting a lot)
Meteo - 0 points (use the warp zone to skip the boss)
Katina - 0 points (do nothing and let the boss destroy the base)
Sector X - 0 points (use the warp to skip the boss)

1 point so far

Now you have a choice, decide the Area 6 route or Boise:

Area 6 Route:
(Choose Sector Z after the warp)
Sector Z - 6 points (destroy the missiles at the LAST second so you don't get the +bonus)
Area 6 - 1 point (boss after a lot of waiting)
Venom - 7 points (4 for Star Wolf Team, 2 for Andross hands, 1 for final brain, after lots of waiting during each phase of course)

Total: 15 points

Boise Route:
(Choose Titania after the warp)
Titania - 1 point (boss after waiting)
Boise - Not sure, I don't know if the +3 bonus on the force field towers will fade after waiting. If so then 6 + the number of targets on the core. Otherwise 24 (+3 bonus x 6 + 6) + the number of targets on the core. Ignore Star Wolf team.
Venom - 4 points(1 for Golem boss, 2 for Andross hands, 1 for robot Andross)

Total: 40~50 points

I could be wrong since I've never tried a low score run but those numbers sound right in my head.

Oh wow, it's in 3D which is going to amount to a stupid little gimmick, that will be over utilized and poorly utilized in the earliest games, much like the DS and its first games poor implementation of touch controls, every game had touch controls just for the sake of touch controls, no matter how bad they were, and how out of place they were.

Not even Metal Gear Solid is exciting me, which is downright sad.

Combine that with an estimated price of $300, and you have something that I likely won't even buy used five years from now.

Awesome news. I can't remember if I told you guys or not, but I tried to pre-order at Gamestop last week, and the employee had never heard of the system at all. He kept trying to convince me to put a DS Lite on layaway instead.

I tried pre-ordering it Friday and the Gamestop employee said they weren't accepting pre-orders yet but to try back in about two weeks.

@DM: It's cool. Different strokes for different folks. I wouldn't pay $5 for a new PSP or 360 but if other people enjoy them, no problem.

@DM: The Third Party support is massive and is still growing, I mean Metal Gear Solid,
Resident Evil, and Megaman Legends 3 are all coming to the 3DS.

When you'll go as far as turning your back on one of favorite series of games simply because of the system it's being released on, then your fanboyism has dropped to some pretty low levels.

They are overhyped, but that doesn't make them bad games, Metal Gear Solid 4 may have
been an aweful stealth game, but it still had an outstanding story with great gameplay.

The story is the reason MGS4 sucks, there is more watching cutscenes (sometimes an hour long) than gameplay. The first 2 chapters are the only ones worth playing IMO. I couldn't wait for the rest to be over. Starts with a bang, ends with a thud.

Kugyince

I was implying that if their MSRP was suddenly changed to $5 I still wouldn't want one. I'm sure their is something in the 360 library that I would want that could chage my mind. XBLA sounds cool.

Dudebro

I know you'd find plenty to love about the 360 library if you were inclined to check it out. I don't spend much money online but of the games I've downloaded it's all been totally worth it. The recent Castlevania game was pretty awesome even if it was a little short.

Btw I would buy a PSP for 5 bucks. That's a system I know I'd love but never wanted to spend the money on. I hate exclusive content. :(

So is 300$ the estimated price for the 3ds really? If so that thing better be awesome or it's gonna piss off a lot of people. Any word if it's games will cost more or not?

Rumor is $250 for the 3DS and the games remain $30-$35 for feature titles.

250$ is better but it's still kinda steep for a handheld, at least imo. I'll probably wait for a sale or some time to pass and buy it for half that. I hope they stay cool about the games being reasonably priced. That's a big selling point for me.

In this age of google and wikipedia there's really no excuse to have to ask. He's very famous and I'm kinda stunned you never heard of him. You should look it up.

Nope I don't care that much. I'll defend any of the consoles because I think they're all good in their own way. I just happen to get stuck defending the 360 because people like to pick on it, or me, who knows. I don't like consoles I like the games I play on them. We should only need one like a PC.

I found the story very interesting, but none of the cutscenes are over 10 minutes in
length, but they do add up to over an hour and a half in screening.

Metal Gear Solid 3 had good moments too.

Um, yes there are. After you defeat Raven in chapter 3 you are treated to many overly long and unnecessary scenes in sequence:

-Snake returning to bottom of tower back to Eva
-Liquid Ocelot's appearance and eventually toying and stabbing of Snake
-Liquid's retreat into the river, and subsequent activation of soldier's nanomachines
-Bullet's everywhere, Snake on fire, death of Eva

And THEN:
-Hard drive install of next chapter
-Mission briefing
-Mandatory MGS1 nightmare sequence

And then finally you are allowed to play the game again. All of the scenes combined total about an hour straight.
And don't tell me about cutscene skip, if the game is all about this convoluted story. And if it's your first time, you're not going to skip.

Let's not talk about the final chapter where you watch more movies and are on autopilot down a straight line to the end of the game, which is dragged out unnecessarily (OMG microwave corridor!) and really in the end comes down to two sad old men fighting over some steroids.

AND THEN the really, really long ending, which brings back too many useless plot elements and characters that never needed to come back (Zero from MGS3, Big Boss from MSX Metal Gear 2 who you killed by flamethrower-ing to death).

@DM: The Third Party support is massive and is still growing, I mean Metal Gear Solid,
Resident Evil, and Megaman Legends 3 are all coming to the 3DS.
Was never a big Megaman Legends fan, I lost interest in Resident Evil at RE4, and you are now aware that I already stated that what has been shown so far of this MGS game has yet to interest me like the others have in the past.
Plain and simple, I am failing to see anything interesting in the library, lots of remakes and ports, a good portion of which are from games I am not a big fan of. Never got all that into Starfox 64, at least not as much as the first Starfox, you know my deal with Street Fighter. All that.
When you'll go as far as turning your back on one of favorite series of games simply because of the system it's being released on, then your fanboyism has dropped to some pretty low levels.
No, I am uninterested in a game of my favorite series because I have yet to see anything of it that I really want. Take into consideration this: from all the information I have, it is to be a remake/port of MGS3, a game which I enjoyed immensely, I've played through it four or five times, and I'll do it again.
The thing with the Metal Gear series is this: The guards are predictable, playing through MGS3 on the 3DS will be the same as Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes on the Gamecube. Good enough, but I've already gone through this room, I've already seen where this guard is hiding, I've already found out where the traps are, I already know the plan of attack the bosses use, I know where The End will hide, and I know where to hide from The Fury to get the best shots. I already know to wear the Raikov mask to score myself a free shot on Volgin. I already know the easiest way to find Raikov and knock him out so I can steal his clothes.
And yes, a bit of my lack of excitement towards this title is a console thing:
The PS2 had four face buttons, a D-Pad, two analog sticks and four shoulder buttons. All of these were put to good use and made for a game that had fairly fluid and natural controls. The 3DS will have four face buttons, a D-Pad, and analog nub and two shoulder buttons, in addition to a touchscreen. It stands to reason that the controls will be a bit awkward, sure the touchscreen could stand in for some buttons, but they would be positioned unnaturally in comparison to the rest of the buttons. This is my problem with the console and the game going together, not some Nintendo hate crap.

@DM: It's cool. Different strokes for different folks. I wouldn't pay $5 for a new PSP or 360 but if other people enjoy them, no problem.
I understand that, each console caters to a slightly different portion of the market. Not everyone is going to be happy with every console.

I was just perusing the wikipedia list of 3ds games and there is indeed an entry for Dragon Quest, fantastic. More than likely wont see it till 2012... that is if DQX sells more than an abysmal amount. Speaking of witch, I'm starting to worry a N.A. release of DQ Monsters Joker 2 might have been cancelled, still no release date announced, and it came out in JP back in april. Anyway the 3DS DQ might not even be part of the main series, all it says is Dragon Quest (working title). Here's hoping for some blue slimes in your face.

There is a lot of content in that game. That is a lot of translating. It takes time, and once it is translated, it must be submitted for rating. Go through testing to make sure no new bugs popped up {it happens}, and then they might withhold the release a bit until the market warms up a bit.
I'm not worried.

There is no reason why the release date wouldnt be announced, 8 months is ample time to translate a game, not to mention that DQMJ does not have alot of content that needs to be translated, there is no voice acting and maybe 50 npc's who say 1 or 2 things each.
