With the amount of earthquakes lately I'm starting to believe that P.O.S. Mayan calender so good luck with that 2017 thing.
It's not that there's more earthquakes there's just more attention on them since the ones in Haiti and that South American country whos name I forgot. I've yet to see a study showing an increase in activity. It's possible that it'll turn out that way but atm everything seems normal.

There isn't a major increase in seismic activity however, there has been an increase in Solar Activity,
meaning there's a high chance of the planet being wiped out by a massive EMP burst.

o.o you guys do know htat 'Death' in this case is actually just a major change right? Not a litteral planet destroyign event but a massive 'death' of our current System and economy. It woudl be the end of the world as WE know it, and the beginning of the new world of our race. Tiomefor forced Evolution people. buckle down and get ready for the pain. My thought is that All electronics are going to die off VIA A massive solar flare. Forcing us all to Live by our own means again. Meaning massive panic, and psychos with guns killing people.. Though most of hte survivers will be farmers, the mormons, and others who have rely mroe on phisical power over Technology.
That or the aliens are on the way, that would change and eff everything up for sure..
Oh and for future reference. 2012 is not just a mayan prediction, but its a world wide thing. Do some reasearch lol.
@dudebro: I personaly think its us Athiests who will be best off, as whatever world ending event occurs is gonna freak damn near everyone out., People are going to be panicing and yelling about there god forsaking them. Athiests are going to be needed to keep some semblance of Focus going on.
Now what would be funny is if 2012 is nothing.. but The worlds first massive globally epic Rickroll..

it's better than death but speaking of weather lately and I'm not sure why this is. We had summer weather all week but last night in a matter of an hour we had up to 125 Kp/h winds and a freaking blizzard, snow was coming down sideways and circling in the air. I was out all night due to potential buyers viewing our house, this morning there is 2 feet of snow on the ground and keep in mind the snow has been gone for weeks now. At lunch today there was a bunch of sun out and all 2 feet of snow had melted. Now, less than 4 hours later there is wind picking up again and cloudy skies. I have never seen a chinook half this bad.

If the world ends in 2012, I think it'll be not because some Mayans plotted a date on their sundials, but because some crazy person/people went to extreme lengths to make it happen.
So much hype for an artificial date. Of all the Mayan artifacts that were destroyed and lost forever, why couldn't have this prediction been one of them?

The only thing odd about the date the world is slated to end, December 21, 2012, is that the sun will be in direct alignment with the center of the Milky Way galaxy. That means pretty much nothing, maybe some odd solar activity, but the world will not end, and if it does, we wont realize it, as we would all be dead anyway.

I don't care I'm a huge X File fan (for those who don't know, December 21, 2012 is the day the aliens are going to colonize the Earth, according to the X Files). I would've used ResistOrServe2012 but too many fans use that already. I dont think the mayans were predicting anything, just stating the facts about the cosmos, and what is going to happen within it. It was basically a timeline, which Does exist, that was bringing in a new age. Its really no different then the 12 Zodiac astrological ages we use. Example the Aquarium age.
The real question, or I guess the one that matters most imo, is how they knew this so long before modern science. Its impressive.

Almost every belief system has a prediction for the end days and they keep moving it to suit new evidence(like the world not actually ending). Besides that all kinds of fringe groups have predicted the end days since the dawn of man and they've all been wrong, why should we suddenly believe the Mayans or anyone else? It's all garbage.
It's possible for it to make a black hole. Not according to what I heard. It may be possible to mimic one on a tiny scale but the only people predicting some doomsday blackhole are the same morons predicting 2012. I call them morons because they aren't backing their claims up with science, if they are I've never seen any proof of it.

It'll be man made if anything happens in 2012. Aren't we technically 2027 or something ? Theoretically speaking time doesn't exist, the cosmos aligning to form some sort of ,Ultima spell Final Fantasy last boss fight, makes as much sense as other intergalactic occurrence happening in unison to other man made things. What if dolphins have a concept of time different then us ? If anything, the mind set the something is going to happen in 2012 is extremely detrimental and will create catastrophes in itself. Pfft, something will probably happen who knows, whatever.
I think we're all going to space and probably going to see it in this life time.
Dojah
04-16-2010, 12:39 AM
@Fungusman- I believe since we and the mayans have different calandars, this alignment they speak of happens to fall on "our" Dec. 21, 2012.
Since it looks like some of you missed this the first time around (http://retrouprising.com/other/debate/bs4-end-world/t7885/) I will repeat myself.
There is no record of the Myans ever predicting the world would end in the year 2012. It is completely made up urban legend BS.
The Mayans had a different type of calender than we do. They divided their calenders up into ages that were about 5,125 years long. When they get to the end of an age they start a new one. Similar to how when we get to 1,999 we flip over to 2,000. If you were driving in your car and noticed the odometer read all 9s would you think if you drove one more mile the car would blow up or simply flip to all zeros and continue on?
1. Starting a calender over at zero is no big deal.
2. EVEN THEY DID NOT THINK IT WAS A BIG DEAL.
3. This will be the 14th time it has happened. We are nearing the end of their 13th 5,000 year clusters.
4. Mayans would celebrate the end of an age, not fear it.
5. Even if it were true that the Mayans thought the world would end in 2012 (which it is not), do you think that would be an adequate reason to worry?
So if the Mayans did not think the world would end in 2012 then why do we think they thought that?
1. In the 1960's Michael D. Coe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_D._Coe) wrote a book called The Mayas. In it he said the the Mayans thought the world would end when the calender flipped to zero again. He just made it up and everyone jumped on board and went with it. This was the first time doomsday had been attached to the Mayans and 2012. He invented it.
2. Terence McKenna - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, a philosopher who is famous for doing a lot of psychedelic drugs, came up with a theory in the 70s (while on drugs) called Novelty Theory. It was a very ridiculous crackpot theory that concluded the world would end in November 2012. He claimed that the I Ching agreed with him so his theory would sound more solid by attaching it to ancient "wise men", but he just made that up. Later he read that Mr. Coe said the Mayans predicted the world would end 12/21/12 so McKenna changed his predicted date to match Coe's date. He simply changed his BS prediction to match someone else's BS prediction thereby making it seem that there was two independent and separate predictions of the same date. To me if you can change your prediction around that easily then it was not that good to begin with.
And that is what started this urban legend. The rest is just repeating of those two assumptions.

It doesn't matter what weapons or damage can be done. If humans lost all technology and tools we'd still be waging war.
Humans are the only primates who can commit genocide. You can't tell me a chimp can build something as complex as a missile and take out other chimps with it.
Other primates will go to war and kill in ways similar to a genocide. They kill the males, take the females and kill any offspring and replace them with their own. That isn't considered genocide? The weapons or level of technology doesn't matter.
