If you voted for Obama.:talktohand:
Obama health care supporters: Florida doctor tells Obama health care supporters to go elsewhere - OrlandoSentinel.com (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/os-mount-dora-doctor-tells-patients-go-aw20100401,0,6040296,full.story)
I saw this on another site and I wanted to see what everyone thinks. To sum it up this doctor posted a sign that said "If you voted for Obama....seek Urologic care elsewhere." He also claims that he isn't denying anyone but if they see the sign and leave so be it.
Personally I think it's ridiculous and I wish he would lose his job over it. It's not technically against the law but it's unethical and immature. He needs to grow up and treat all his potential patients equally. I hate to make a generalization but this seems like par for the course with the typical republican/conservative. That is backed up by all the support he's getting from like minded people.
So do you guys think it's cool for a doctor to indirectly deny service based on who a person voted for?
GaMeR_mAn_1

I personally did not vote for obama.
However that being said I think it is utterly ridiculous for someone to refuse service to anyone for any reasons especially medical care.
I dont agree with the new laws concerning the health bill but this is taking it to an out rageous degrees.
Completely unethical and I think someone should take action.
On a side note i'm giving plus one for raising awareness on this issue DB.

LMAO. That is full of laughs. Now I see an issue of a Doctor delaying patients, but this is just too funny.
Dudebro
04-03-2010, 04:38 AM
I think it's funnier because of the type of doctor doing this. Obviously there's the penis doctor thing but besides that isn't he considered a specialist? In my experience you get recommended to go there from another doctor. What kind of welcome is that and how does the other doctor feel? The whole thing is just stupid.

Wait, a penis doctor? Just use Viagra.

LMAO@ a penis doctor payin. But yeah I thought a urologist did mostly work through our urinary system. Like Urinary tact infection, bladder infection and so forth, and that for erectile dysfuntion you visited a different specialist.

If I'm not mistaken, the correct word is Urologist.
In the new health care bill if you just look at immediate expenses (what it will cost you) and not at complicated long term issues of what it does for society, economy, and country (the things we can't fully predict) then...
If you make over $250K a year this plan is undeniably bad for you.
If you make under $35K a year then this plan is undeniably good for you.
There is a gradient between the 2 numbers were it slides from obvious good to questionable to obvious bad.
The dick doctor makes over $250 grand a year. All his friends make over $250k a year. His neighbors make over $250K a year. All his colleagues make over $250K a year. The employees of the media outlets that he gets his information from make over $250K a year. I make under $35K a year. Screw him.

sometimes there are problems when professionals let their agendas get in the way.
like obama or not, he is the hand that we were dealt. people need to deal and if you don't like it, then you will have the chance to start a campaign in a couple of years to remove him from office.
only once in recent history have americans had a real right to complain about the political system, that is of course the epic facepalm with the election in 2000. of course, the people lost the right to complain about g.w. when he was actually elected in 2004.
currently, the healthcare proposal makes little difference to me. i already pay for private healthcare and i am right on the 35k bubble. it is a great deal for the gf and one of the lame reasons i can think of for not pulling the trigger when she pesters me about marrying her. but it is of little consquense. the people that we (cough*corportations*cough) elected have decided this is the best course of action, so for the meanwhile, we deal.
GaMeR_mAn_1

@jim. Well thats true, We have to deal, I mean what else can we do.
Even though I dont particularly like the direction this country is headed and I really dont like this healthcare plan, even though I do recognize some of the benefits, there isnt another country I'd wanna live in.
there isnt another country I'd wanna live in.Any specific reasons why?

I have been hearing the last day or so about this
political people I forget the names I will post them when I hear them again
but any ways they are calling for this doctors license to be revoked.
Is it fair for him to lose his licence because he is utalizing his free speech to express his political position of obamacare.
the doctor has broken NO laws by posting the sign and he has not gone against his hippocratic oath by refusing care to anyone.
so why should he lose his license?
samejamesbond
04-06-2010, 06:49 PM
That's ludicrous, he did nothing wrong!
I'd appeal to the state supreme court if I lost my license.
Demon-Mask
04-06-2010, 07:42 PM
The man is well within his rights, and you need not explain to the public why you are taking advantage of your rights.
If reporters and politicians know he broke no law and will not lose his license and if they are saying he is they are lying and trying to make this into a bigger story for their own personal gain. That is propaganda and it is a worse offense than what the doctor did.
The Hippocratic Oath is not required to be a doctor and he probably never took it. I think it could be argued both ways that his sign does and does not violate the Hippocratic Oath - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippocratic_Oath#Modern_Version)

I have hated this reform form the beggining. But when half the physicians in America feel this is a bad idea, and will make things worse, you cant get angry at the one guy who says what he feels in a public manner. Lets remember this is not what he signed up for, among a huge percentage of other doctors. Perhaps this is why a good percentage of doctors are going to be leaving the medical field. I know I wouldnt want to go to school for 8-ish years to come out and get screwed. One example of this is the Ban that prevents doctors from investing into hospitals. A group of hedge fund managers can own/run a hospital but doctors can not. Basically this ban prevents doctors from actually making money on any technical fees which are the majority of a doctors income. He only collects proffesional fees. Section 6001 of the bill (http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=111_cong_bills&docid=f:h3590enr.txt.pdf)
Say hello to horrible healthcare.

I've never claimed to be gung ho about free speech, I think some people don't deserve it. I don't mean this doctor though. He just deserves to lose his job for being such an immature little man. I'm sure nothing will come of this with all the conservative circling the wagons around him but he's still making himself look like a fool imo.

You really think this guy deserves to lose everything he has worked for his whole life for putting his thoughts on paper? I would call that more immature then what he did. I mean have you looked at his reasoning for this at all? Nothing should come of it because he has done nothing wrong.

It sounds harsh but yeah I think he should at least face the threat of being fired for letting his personal opinions effect his work. You don't think it's unfair to his potential patients who might be unaware that his politics would cause them to be treated as undesirable? Like I said before his patients are probably referred to him, why should they have to face this kind of thing when they have little control over who they see? It's very immature and he's a moron for doing it. It seems like the norm for the republicans nowdays though so I'm honestly not too surprised by all this. I think a person should be free of political attacks at the doctors office but maybe I'm just crazy or something.
At the very least I hope his job suffers from patients boycotting him. This isn't gonna happen because his customers are mainly conservatives from what I read. I wouldn't be surprised if the republicans set this whole thing up to build momentum for the upcoming elections.
What if he had a sign that said
"If you are black....seek Urologic care elsewhere."
or
"If you are Christian....seek Urologic care elsewhere."
Do you think that would be more, less or equally wrong?

This healthcare bill might effect my girlfriends job down the line since her job is directly related to hospitals and home care, should she be allowed to put up a sign that says "If you voted for Obama seek medical supplies else where?".
It's just pushing the limits of free speech imo.
@Kong- I think those are obviously more wrong. They aren't related to his work like this healthcare bill is unless the black thing was a reference to Obama. The christian thing can't be about Obama since we all know he's a Kenyan Muslim!

That's not what I said. I said that they aren't related to healthcare. Obama is the president so it is at least logical to be immature towards people who voted for him since he is partially responsible for the health care bill. Race and religion don't connect to this in the same way(that I'm aware of).

Why is this pushing the limits of free speech? I dont mean to mix threads but in one thread you think it ok for someone to publish a picture of Mohamed, because its their right to free speech...knowing its going to make people mad. But in this case when someone throws their right out into play you think they deserve banishment. Sounds wierd to me.
I think you are assuming a whole lot on this subject.
letting his personal opinions effect his work
I dont see it effecting his work in anyway. But even if it did, every person on earth would be screwed for this, including you. Have anyone ever got to you in a way where it effected your RU work?
You don't think it's unfair to his potential patients who might be unaware that his politics would cause them to be treated as undesirable?
I dont see this happening, if you do can you share? From what I see he is trying to educate people before its to late.
why should they have to face this kind of thing when they have little control over who they see? What kind of thing? Do you honestly believe this doctor is treating Obama voters with crap care? Does it say democrat on their chart? I think you are making things up. :)
I think a person should be free of political attacks at the doctors office but maybe I'm just crazy or something.
So you propose new laws be made, like hate laws of some sort like racial, religious, sexual orientation, etc...? So what if I put up a comic strip from a newspaper on my desk at the hospital that says Obama voters are morons? Something like that is ok right?
Yes you sound crazy. :)

I think that's a bad analogy. Putting up this sign is like slapping people in the face when they show up to get treatment. Putting up a cartoon of Mohamed only angers people because they want it to, they didn't have much of a problem when South Park and others did it, it's just an excuse to be fanatical. In no way does it directly effect people.
I dont see it effecting his work in anyway. But even if it did, every person on earth would be screwed for this, including you. Have anyone ever got to you in a way where it effected your RU work?
It's effecting his work because he's potentially ostracizing his patients for something that's perfectly within their rights to do(vote for Obama). That is not how a doctor should act and I'm surprised anyone would defend that kind of behavior.
I dont see this happening, if you do can you share? From what I see he is trying to educate people before its to late.
That's how you see it. If I happened to be one of his patients I'd be insulted and leave and I wouldn't see it as educating me, I'd see it as an immature insult from someone who is supposed to be a professional.
What kind of thing? Do you honestly believe this doctor is treating Obama voters with crap care? Does it say democrat on their chart? I think you are making things up.
If he's willing to treat them so poorly at the door what makes you think he'll treat them equally if he finds out during treatment? This is what I mean about it affecting his work. He's pushing his political beliefs where they don't belong. He needs to grow up.
So you propose new laws be made, like hate laws of some sort like racial, religious, sexual orientation, etc...? So what if I put up a comic strip from a newspaper on my desk at the hospital that says Obama voters are morons? Something like that is ok right?
Yes I think it'd be ok if you had something like that on your desk, in your personal space. Putting a rude sign on the door is too far. It's directly effecting other people and that's where I draw the line.
Feel free to think I'm crazy but I stand by my feelings on this. No doctor should be allowed to act this unprofessionally unless they own a private practice.

The doctor does own the practice, still don't think it's right.
I think it is the same thing as the Mohamed cartoons - untasteful but legal freedom of speech that shouldn't hurt anyone, as long as he isn't actually treating patients differently. Or like burning bras, shocking form of protest.
