I didnt know what to call it but its what was being discussed in the captions thread so re-name it as you'd like.
Making fun of bigger people is not ok by any means but in my opinion its not something that should be completly accepted. Otherwise we get an obese nation.....
Being obese kills just like tabacco and drinking and it should be erraticated. Not killing big people if thats the message anyone got from that but erraticated as in make foods have little to no fats that arent needed in a healthy diet. Or tax fatter foods like crazy to make it 'ok' like the government does with alchohol and tabacco.

Some people, like myself, have very little control over their weight. Some of us were not gifted with the mega-metabolism others are. Some of us were a little heavy when we started school and were always picked last for the teams and so we might of lost our desire to play sports. Maybe you should just live with us heavy people like you live with smokers and alcoholics. How does that idea sound, slim?

We spend so much money each year on obesity related issues it crazy. More than ALL money spent on ALL cancers. Its a huge preventive problem. The tv show Biggest Loser is one of my favorite shows believe it or not, and the proof they have brought forth the last couple years is amazing. Being able to cure certain diseases by simply being healthy, and taking care of yourself is just a small example of what can be done. An ex-contestant within a couple months went from $10,000 dollars worth of pills alone, to the most basic medication which costs a couple hundred...which in time even that will fade away.

I think cancer should be dealt with first.
For the most part, I am healthy, just heavy.

Yeah there are alot of people who are big, but are healthy, and I see no problem with that at all. I only see a problem when it becomes a health issue. And honestly I dont think I would have a problem if it were just small issues, but when it becomes life altering or at the expense of so much money I think something should, and can be done.

I still believe being heavy as it is being mentioned here is a decision one makes. It has everything to do with you eating habits and your exercise habits, not something you are born with. I was heavy, I didn't have a fast metabolism, and I ate junk all day long. I decided to get healthy because I didn't like myself that way.
I agree making fun of anyone is plain wrong. I also think that calling someone gay to insult them is wrong, and how about all those blond jokes, or jokes about women, about french people, etc? My dad and I would have joke fights, he'd tell a joke of how women are stupid or something, and I'd tell one on how men are stupid. It's just a joke. There's a reason why it's called taking it personally. If I would've taken it personally and gotten mad, I would of been admitting that women are stupid, why? Because when something makes you mad, and gets to you, it means that to you, there's a little truth in what's being said. Unless it's a Michael Jackson joke or something like that, I think those are just plain tasteless.
And by the way, I don't think being a little overweight is wrong, but being overweight and wanting to be treated normal isn't right. Someone overweight is someone with a problem. It's like saying it ok to be an alcoholic, or any other type of addict. It's not healthy. I also feel the same way of anorexics... it's not right, they also have a problem. I'm not saying everyone should be a supermodel, but you should be healthy.

Thats like reading my mind.
And what I mean by over weight isnt judged by doctors ideas on how you, "You shouldn't weigh more than 150lbs if your 20" or whatever, I mean having health and other issues spring from it.
And i cant stress enough that im not directing any distaste towards anyone at all.

yasly... I agree... david man... I'm to tired to make the conversion from pounds to kilograms, but I basically agree
and by french I mean all of them. Canada and France, and I was going to mention Spain, because here in Mexico we make fun of Gallegos, I don't know if they have those jokes over there. I was basically talking of any jokes on anyone of any race, gender or culture.
I just remembered an episode of Who's Line Is It Anyway that I really must share... at the end Colin Mochrie says something that cracks me up, not because it's making fun of Canadians, but because he's Canadian.

Maybe she meant not to wallow around, and have people feel sorry for you?
I think being overweight is similar to being an alcoholic. It is unhealthy. It is undesirable. It is something you should try to avoid and try to fix if it happens to you. It is expensive and raises the cost of health care and insurance.
An important part that many people forget or overlook is that over coming alcohol or fat is much harder for some and much easier for others. Anybody can be a skinny or sober but some people have to try much harder than others.
For me personally, I would have to put a lot of effort in to be fat or an alcoholic. I could do it but it would never happen on its own. For others though it is the opposite. They can do it but it takes just as much effort.

I didn't mean it is ok to insult overweight people, if you continue reading my post, you'll see I'm trying to say what Kong worded better. I think alcoholism, and smoking tobacco, and gambling are wrong, just as I think overweight is wrong. Not that they are bad people, or they should be treated badly, it's just something unhealthy. And just as it is very hard to stop an addiction, it is very hard to lose weight. It takes a lot of self control and you have to really want it.
If it seemed like an insulted, well, I meant no insult.
By the way, just because you walk, it doesn't mean that's enough exercise. The right amount of exercise is the exercise that burns as much calories as you eat so that your body has a balance. So if you eat a lot, you have to walk a lot, or any other exercise you like. If you don't eat much, you don't need that much exercise.
StarfoxFan2009
03-18-2010, 08:39 PM
You have a excellent point Kong. I need to fix this mess out as soon as possible. Now that i think about it, one mistake i made in middle school was biting someone. I have been suspended several times but i made up for that.
As for your comment, i apologize for being too rash in posting. Walking around the track by the high school is always a part of my daily exercise. As is practicing karate outside and doing pushups albeit poorly.

Im not saying you need to go on a rampage and fit into whateve society thinks is 'good health'. I just think you can weigh whatever you want as long as your body isnt getting any problems from obesity.
nikegirl2012
03-18-2010, 08:45 PM
On the subject of bullying... it really depends on how you take it... a boy used to tease me about my breasts being big when I was in middle school. He'd even bully me to the point of not letting me work in class or making fun of me in front of my other classmates, I never cared and after a few months he never bugged me again. (in case anyone says he wanted to go out with me, he was from the "popular" circle in school and I wasn't)
I know some bullies are worse, but violence won't solve a thing, it'll just make more problems. It's like and eye for an eye... if we all follow it the world goes blind. Bullies are just very stupid people, don't make yourself a stupid person by letting them get to you.

Well im not a push over. If they call me out on a fight i wont refuse no matter what. Teachers wont do anything pretty much.
nikegirl2012
03-18-2010, 08:49 PM
The thing is... it's not what society says that it is healthy... there's a reason why it's called overweight... and there's a scientifically reason why they say what the weight range is for your age. If you're totally healthy, you'll be in your weight range.
StarfoxFan2009

It's not about being a push over, being a push over is letting them do as they wish without defending yourself. Fighting doesn't make you a stronger person. So what if teachers won't do anything. You walk with dignity, and you refuse a fight with dignity, that's how you prove you're a bigger man.

Maybe in your neck of the woods. I was bullied a lot in middle school mostly, and I hit back. Then I got hit even harder. And I was a small kid until high school, so I had to back off in most instances.
There is evidence that being a fat senior citizen is more healthy than being old and skinny. When you get to be around 40 or 50 your body starts to naturally put on more pounds. This is because when you hit about 60-80 you start losing a lot of pounds. In this age range it is more common to have health issues related to being underweight than overweight. So when you get to that age it is good to have some stored pounds to shed.
Tails

No, bulk up later for the end. Start when you are 50ish. And by then the evidence will probably change and suggest something different.

Sorry we can't control our testosterone levels and be mature enough for you.:(
I agree with the usage of the word healthy, being skinny without being healthy is worse than being fat and unhealthy. At least if you are fat you can still get nutrients.
Super-skinny are unattractive to me.
If someone can be insulted for being overweight, someone can be insulted for being underweight. Anyone who manages to offend me with a fat joke (it has to be particularly nasty) gets called 'Slim' in the most insulting tone you can imagine.

Isn't a calorie a unit of energy gained by storing food?
Anyways, the best way to lose weight is easily the simple idea of mimicking a transverse wave. Eat much one day, eat little the next, and so on. At least, that's what I hear from my relatives.(I suspect a couple actually had their stomachs stapled though...)

Eating a lower calorie diet, makes you live longer according to many studies.
I dont think eating alot one day, and less the next is a good way to lose weight. Losing weight does not mean not eat, it means doing something to burn all the excess weight off. Basically eating less calories then you burn off.
One of the best ways to really lose weight is to stick to a strict diet and eat everyday, a low calorie diet. Eat good foods that do something for your body. NO fast food. Keep your body hydrated. At the same time workout, tons of cardio, basic workouts. SLEEP is real important. Do these things, and build up intensity as you go and you will see true weight loss.

I didn't mean to imply that those were the only steps, just a key in the technique.
My wording was poor, if you'll excuse my last post. You don't have to take it to a point where you feast out and then simply starve the next, if anything it's more of a method to manage how much energy you have to actually exercise.
Lets say you have chile for lunch one day. The next day you could have a salad and a simple sandwich for lunch.

Tenser... healthy is sexy... there are many studies that have found that men and women are attracted to people of the opposite sex that have certain qualities... these qualities are of those with a good health. One example I can think of right know is... a very pale girl compared with a rosy cheek girl. Paleness is a sign of unhealthiness.... and why do you find healthy girls more attractive? Because your body is.. lets say... unconsciously looking for a good mate to have children with.
Hourglass Figures Affect Men's Brains Like a Drug | LiveScience (http://www.livescience.com/culture/hourglass-figures-drug-brain-100222.html)
The thing about the calories... when I first read it I though it was wrong... but it is true. When I was on a diet with a professional, she gave a diet for one week, another for two weeks, another for one week, and well, back then I just loved Burger King and we asked her if I could have a burger once in a while. She said I could, but because of the amount of calories it had, it would have to be the only thing I ate that day and the next I would have to eat half of what was in my diet. So yeah, the idea is that if you eat to much one day, balance it eating lighter the next.
Also you don't have to be strict about your diet. I used to have a little pizza one week, a muffin the next. The key is if you are on a weight loss diet, continue it and continue eating healthy after you finish your diet. And you can have a little something now and then, but make sure it stays as less than once a week because other wise you start getting used to eating unhealthy foods again.
Anyways, the best way to lose weight is easily the simple idea of mimicking a transverse wave. Eat much one day, eat little the next, and so on. At least, that's what I hear from my relatives.(I suspect a couple actually had their stomachs stapled though...)Pretty sure that is very bad information.

Dojah has the best tips for weightloss and overall good health. Overall, I eat well and am blessed with a good metabolism. That keeps me relatively trim.
I still drink too much, eat fast food too often and don't exercise enough. That does not bode well for heart health. Heart health is, of course, most important. I'm stating the obvious here, but when you are extremely overweight, your heart is forced to work harder to pump the same amount of blood throughout your body. The heart is a muscle, and the harder it works the tougher (harder) it gets. That is good for biceps and pectorals, but NOT good for your heart.
Again, going back to what Dojah mentioned, maintaining a strict diet is the key. My wife is a huge supporter of the South Beach Diet. If anyone is interested, you can buy the book. The premise is similar to the Atkins diet, but much more realistic. With this diet you gradually add carbs into your diet after an initial 2 week period of no carbs, caffeine or alcohol.
Not surprisingly, I have never had the discipline to survive the intial two weeks!

I've grown up on drinking milk and eating butter. It probably worked to well...

I dropped 44 pounds in less than a year and I didn't follow a strict diet. You don't have to be strict strict... but obviously, eating a hamburger one week, pizza the next, and hot dogs the week after that one won't help you loose weight. I didn't have a fast metabolism, but there are tricks(natrual ways) to make your metabolism faster, and sure, I was pretty young (16 more or less) when I decided to go on a diet, but I really believe you don't have to be extremely strict to make it happen. Besides, it's way better to go with a professional who will give you a diet fit to your health needs than following a book that generalizes about this stuff... sure it's cheaper, but if you are serious about it, might as well do it the right way from the beginning.

So I got the pokewalker and average 12k-16k steps a day on it, I believe that is 6-8 miles per day. I enjoy it, I work and play games the whole time!
Anyways 6'3"
Dunno weight.

I'm almost 23... is that to old to get a ds just to play the new pokemon with the pokewalker? (well not just to play pokemon, but when I see the commercial I feel like a little kid thinking "I want that I want that!")

I think the pokewalker is stupid, but i'll go for the DS and the Pokemon game.

I still think that Pokémon Red on a cyan gameboy is the best...
I used to be 230 pounds but I'm now at 5' 8" 190 lb
Diet wise, I just eat lots of chicken and fish with all sorts of fruits and veggies. I cut back on salt and red meat, but I'll have a burger or cook out on the grill like twice a month. Stopped eating flours and switched to eating wheat pasta. No soda and start drinking some hot teas.
To boost up anyone's metabolism, one just needs to eat smaller portions thru out the day. Like for breakfast I'll eat an egg sandwich with some canadian bacon on dry wheat toast. Snack on some fruit or nuts when I get hungry and then have some soup or grilled chicken with veggies for lunch. Snack on some more nuts and then have a light dinner like a soup or some tuna. It takes some getting used to the first two weeks, but after that it's not that difficult to change one's diet. I'll allow myself a cheat day to eat some pizza or maybe a burger so I won't fall into temptation and binge on junk food.

Nice work, Jozman! How long did it take you to drop 40 lbs? Any exercise involved?
That diet sounds very "south beach". Nuts and water are great hunger fighters.

Nice diet, similar to the diet I followed
Thanks Tanc. Yeah I was lifting weights, swimming every other day and I had joined an indoor soccer team with some buddies. I really didn't notice when I lost the weight. I'd say about 5 to 6 months.
I was gaining some of my wieght back and got up to 210 when I got married, but the wife and I said enough is enough and we started the P90X program and I joined a softball team to top it off. I'm back at 190 lb and I am starting to get lots of stamina. I even quit smoking due to the work outs. I highly recommend for anyone to do the P90X thing. It really works great.

I'm on records at the school as a bully as of today for sticking up for one of my smaller friends who was being picked on. I stepped in after he said I just want to punch you in the face.
