View Full Version : What did you play last week?

Something close to another thread we have here. I'm more interested in what you've played at home all last week. I'm interested in what everyone's playing, their thoughts on it and where they are in it.
Last week I played Lego Rockband and A Boy and his Blob.
When the wife and I both feel like gaming we usually play Lego Rockband. Its one of the few multiplayer games we own that we both enjoy. I usually play guitar. Right now I'm at where Medium is a bit too easy and I always 5 star everything and hard is a bit too difficult. The wife will either play bass on medium or sing on medium but she's starting to get into playing bass and singing at the same time, both on easy. We've almost 100%'d it though. We're around ~125 gigs played out of 161.
In the rare chance I have the living room TV to myself I play A Boy and his Blob. I'm about half way through the second map. I'm really enjoying going through and finding all of the treasure chests to unlock all of the antiques. I really like it when a game lets you unlock all sorts of items that have no affect on the game itself such as trailers and concept art. Plus pushing up on the Dpad makes the boy give the blob a hug. :-[

I assume you are playing the Wii A Boy and his Blob. I'm interested, but if I want to get my Wii I have to temporarily trade my 360 for it.
I've been playing 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand. I know. But it's awesome. The shooting is satisfying, and the whole game is unintentionally hilarious. Or maybe intentionally. I'm not sure
Been playing a lot of Comix Zone lately, and me and a friend are on an NBA Jam kick.
Tried to play Ghosts N Goblins last night, but my cartridge is not functioning. :(

ive been playing tasunoko vs. capcom on wii, dragon quest 5 on ds on hyper sports on here.
tvc: awsome game but i still stink at it, ive only won 1 match online. i havent played too much yet, and i still havent tried out all the characters to know who i like most.
dq5: another excellent installment, i just made it to the last boss at about 40 hours in.
he whooped me, so i gotta go find a side quest or 2, or maybe hit it big in the casino so i can trade my tokens in for second metal king sword.
hyper sports: me and tanc have been trading this trophy back and forth for a while now, he's got it at the moment but i will take it back, before too long.

I'm on a Coin-op kick here at RU. I have an old PS2 but I never play it. All my gaming is here at RU.
I realize that I am a huge fan of Atari coin-ops. 720 and Paperboy have received a lot of my attention lately. I'm not sure if I like them because of the nostalgia or because they are just fun to play. Paperboy is absolutely maddening for me. It seems like it should be easy, but I always struggle with it. I managed to claim the highscore however, and I'd like to see how hard it will be (or won't be) to beat it.
I just read cassidy's post. I don't know how I forgot about it, but he and I have been battling at Hyper Sports, which is basically Track N' Field 2. It's a challenging game, but a fun one. I only wish I could pass the Triple Jump on a consistent basis.

I've generally been playing Brawl all week. Last week, I played Richard's copy of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. That game is hard to play with the Wiimote. I doubt I'll have an easy time with Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom.

No, it really has to do with being the only Genesis game my friend has that is competitive. We drink, play NBA Jam, and then dunk in each other's faces and yell obscene things.

Wow, that brings back memories. My buddies and I used to do the EXACT same thing in college, except there was usually weed involved as well.

I've spent the last couple of weeks on Chrono Trigger DS. Now that I've beat it, I'm going to try to finish all the side-quests, fill out my bestiary, and get all the endings.
Also, I killed Magus in my first playthrough. I was unaware he was playable until it was too late. Good thing there's New Game +.

You can start over maintaining some of your items, and giving you access to some areas hidden on the initial save which the new game+ is built on.

Chrono Trigger has a feature in it that allows you to keep all the items you have collected through the game and then start the game over. The "New Game +" is that option.

I found a coin-op game on here called Bull Fight. I think it's both hilarious and fun. It's receiving the majority of my very limited gaming time this week.

Last week I played more of Lego Rockband and a little bit of Okami.
We're very close to 100% in Lego Rockband. Everything acquired, two gigs left to play. Problem is one of those two gigs is a thirty song set. The other one is a three song set but it's not available until we finish the thirty song one....

Oh so you're one of those Tekken players.:teeth: I appreciate how cool the fighting style is but I don't think it belongs in Tekken. Anytime I get matched up with Eddy or Christie I do whatever I can to be as cheap as possible. If not I'll just get killed with cheap low attacks the whole fight. Either way it's not fun.

I hate having to play cheaply. Characters like eddy force me to do it though. If I don't I'm overwhelmed by unfair attacks that unbalance the game. How many other Tekken fighters spend 99% of their time in a low position that prevents other players from using most of their moves?(mid or high moves go right over him)
Characters like Eddy and Bob ruin the fun of Tekken for me. I understand the desire to have variety in a game but it shouldn't be at the expense of balance. Soul Caliber has Voldo and he spends most of his time on the ground too but the other characters have many moves that are able to hit him. You have to be really good to excel with Voldo, you don't with Eddy. No offense to you personally.

Last week I mostly played Doom, because I am making some levels for it. However, I might end up scraping them as usual. Great way to waist your time.
The only positive side of my habit of furiosly redoing everything is that I learn something as i go.
So far it has taken me 3 years, on and of, to do a single playable map in Doom Editor.
Now I am aiming at getting it included in the yearly Community Chest, mostly because I need a motivation.
Its been 5 months since I set that goal, and guess what: I am still redoing my maps because I hate them and get bored.
However, I feel that I now know what I am doing good enought to be able to churn out a map which can meet my criterias.
It took almost 3½ years....

Still, if you don't like having to fight them, at least try them out and gain the upper hand against your opponents. Trust me on that they're good against those who don't think you're a challenge.
I will admit that there's cheaper characters out there(even in Tekken) but in no way is Eddy fair when everyone else loses half there moves when fighting against him. I do know how to fight against that, it's call being as cheap as possible to get the match over with. Honestly I don't even care if I win versus Eddy anymore, I just hope I ruined the other guys fun since he ruined mine.
For the record I've been playing Tekken since the first one. I have played Eddy both on his own and when it comes up on Mokujin. I can see that he has cool moves but the problem is 99% of the people who play him only use the fast, cheap low hits that are hard to block or counter.
You're right that most people won't be ready for a good Eddy player, but that's only because of what I said above, most people play him cheaply and ruin any respect the character should have. Sorry but it's true.
I'm not trying to say you are a noob or a spammer I'm just relating my experiences with the character. It's one of the most frustrating experiences in my gaming history.
It isn't unfair, just unbelievably cheap. Everyone acknowledges that Heihachi is cheap, yet he is included in game after game.
Hey now, Heihachi hasn't been cheap since Tekken 1 when he was a boss. I've loved him in all the versions besides the newest one were they neutered him and he's half the fighter he used to be. He used to be such a beautiful fighter. I loved his ability to counter with devastating palm strikes and axe kicks.
I've never really heard of anyone complaining about him, why does he bother you so much?
Since I'm on the subject of Tekken I'd like to point out that Eddy has taken a back seat in cheapness with the addition of the new characters. It seems like Namco decided that barely dressed anime chicks and ridiculous metro sexual guys should be dominating all the other fighters with lighting fast attacks(even if they're about 500 pounds) and air juggles. This might be my last Tekken if the trend continues and I'm sad about that.

My cousin Ryan tried that, DB. Believe me it took me 15 seconds to counter and wipe the floor with him after that. I was a complete noob the first time I trashed him.

He really doesn't bug me, he can be cheap, but I guess if you spam any good attack, any fighter can be cheap. As a matter of fact he is my favorite fighter, but then again I've only played up to Tekken 5. I haven't played Tekken 6, nor do I plan on it, but how could they ruin Heihachi and make lame stereotypical characters the best in the game?

Because people seem to like retarded anime characters over badass old men. At least they improved Ganryu in the newest version.

To hit me with low combos. He thought he was being slick until I hit him with the Falcon Dice Kick. Hwoarang's my second favorite character. He can dish out those much-needed counters where they really count.

Does that mean they ruined Wang too? I like badass old men, like in the book I am writing, the main character is ultra-badass and is around 60, without badass old men it Tekken, the character would have never been the same.

So what you're saying is you guys like the cheap characters? Eddy vs Hwoarang is like a spam fest. Good on you for beating him though, I would bet on Eddy in that match up. Hwaorang's pretty awesome(Baek is better!) but if he can't get a combo started he loses all his weapons.

I don't play him but I think he got improved.

Don't forget Lee in the hall of cheap characters.

I don't see that one either. I think he's a good off shoot of Law. Kind of like how Ganryu is a good off shoot of Jack. Lee is annoying to lose to though, he's so metro.

It seems that the faster a character is in a fighting game, the cheaper he/she becomes. Like Meta Knight from Brawl.

http://content.answers.com/main/content/img/amg/games/drg100/g130/g13005wtthn.jpg If you haven't heard of this game, you aren't living under a rock, it's like the Stadium events of the PS1, extrememly rare in the us, not rare at all in europe. It's incredibly fun, you basically just command these loud mouth bean-like peopele and try to kill the other teams, there is so many combinations of customizable weapons to make it fun. Some just completely ridiculous. You basically build different combinations of blocks on your team block pad and break the blocks for the resulting weapon/vehicle/team buddy. Yes, I own an actual North american copy of this
http://downloads.khinsider.com/album_images/6772-fgsutflryi.jpg Oh man, what memories. What game had I played a lot on the N64 as a kid with my brothers... well a lot of them, but this one is just great. everything is destructable and it's fun being the little skull riders team with my brothers against a team of giant tanks known as the nuclear knights. My brother just bought this game :D

In Tekken 5, Lee has a kick combo that doesn't end, you keep pressing the button, and he keeps going, if you get someone against a wall, you can beat them with no chance of them fighting back.

@Cam- I loved Battle Tanx so much. I also have fond memories of battling my brother and I think he liked the nuke knights. It's been a while but I liked the sentry guns, not sure if that was just an item or a team.

Yeah, that combo is easy to get started on top of being infinite. It isn't that hard to get away from though, just roll to the side when you hit the ground or side step between kicks(pretty hard but not impossible). If the person doesn't break the kick combo you'll be wide open to back throw or something equally devastating.

Or you could always wait to attack (thus activating neutral guard), until you see a break in any attack they will use, but this also ends in long standoffs.

I hate waiting to attack, I always end up timing my counter wrong and getting hit. I prefer to side step so I have a solid opening.

This weekend I started playing the training missions in MGS, because my memory card hasn't arrived yet, so it would be useless to play the main game.

Lee's kick combo is beatable if you know how. However, I generally prefer to avoid Lee if some idiot AI is behind him. They aren't the same as a skilled person.

I didn't have much time last week for gaming. I was also feeling pretty strung out on gaming after the team contest so I didn't get too much playing in.
New Super Mario Bros. (Wii) - Played with my son. Finally beat it. Now I've started to collect all the star coins.
Chess (Pogo) - Worked on a badge for my wife.
Asda Story (MMO) - Played only about 15 minutes of it.
House of the Dead: Overkill (Wii) - Played only about 10 minutes of it.

The guns you're thinking of are called 'Gun Buddies' and the team that used them was... 'Mech Maniacs'.
