As with the upcoming release of FFXIII, Square-Enix is making a huge
push for their new heroine Lightning, claiming her to be the new Cloud Strife.
But who really is the greatest lead character in your mind?
And possibly the worst?

I'm going to go with Cecil on this one. He's a dark knight and captain of the Red Wings fleet under the King of Baron. When he questions the king's motives and is stripped of his title and is sent to burn a small village without his knowledge by delivering a package. Eveyone dies exept for a girl with the power to summon monsters. Baron soldiers come to kill her and Cecil protects her from them making him an enemy of the nation of Baron.
He becomes a Paladin and defeats his own brother. He fight with Leviathan, Odin, the Bahumut and the queen of summon monsters Asura ultimately defeating them. Brings down a giant robot. Saves his girlfriend from being cut in half by a guillotine. He rides a whale ship to the freakin moon! And in the end he defeats Zeromus.

I'd say Cloud since I don't play them and he's the only one I'd know.

You're killing me Tails! Cloud was a good character, but the entire game was a master piece. Cloud was a bit too emo for me to vote for.

Never played a FF game, I used to be on this other site and Cloud pictures were widely common. Why I know.
It's cool. We do have a few FF games here. They are all great, especially part 3 for the SNES.

Is there really a lead in FFII? I've played it a little bit here at RU and was required to enter names. I've only played a handful of FF games, (I, II, VII, a little of IV, VI, VIII) so I really do not know the characters well enough to vote. Although my favorite FF game that I have played is VII, Cloud would NOT be my favorite lead, that is for sure.

I'm playing FF 5 on my GBA and i'm enjoying it.

I personally can't decide between Firion and Squall for the best.
The worst is most likely the stupidest lead, Vaan.
Never played it but he's starting off with a bad name, Vaan....:bulgy-eyes:

Immediately when Vaan accuses Basch of killing his brother (who he's been wanting to take revenge for quite some time), Basch tells Vaan it was his twin Gabranth.
Vaan immediately goes with it and has a undying trust in Basch.
He isn't the smartest of guys.
well that sucks...the last game that was truly to my liking was FFIX. I loved the classic feel that they gave the game.

I would have picked Cecil, but I didn't really like the whole "self struggle" thing.
I vote Firion.

Cecil, no contest.

In the end I picked Squall because how he changed from a jerk to a
compasionate person, I like heros that redeem themselves.
I didn't pick Cecil because Squall has more awesome attacks.

FFVI has no true lead. You could argue Terra, Celes, or Locke.
@Sabbs: Love FFVII but only played a little of FFVI? You think you know a dude...

Cecil is one of my favorites thus far. I can't rule out liking Vaan since I don't have XII. Still, they remade IV for the DS and it is awesome how they redid Cecil and Kain.

I see. Well, Cloud was awesome in his own right as was Squall, both of whom were redone for the Kingdom Hearts series. Not too many FF characters get redone like that.

No FF character was ever redone for another game...well Cid comes out in most but is a completly different character every game.
Besides, Kindom Hearts was a new game and it made more sense putting in characters that would be recognized by everyone. Putting in a character from the NES age would not be recognized by the younger players.

That's not true at all. Kingdom Hearts may have been new at the time, but the graphics were entirely different from those of FF VII and VIII.

So what if the graphics were different, the characters were still recognizable and pretty much the same.

thank you. I was going to say that.

Well, I might point out you'd still recognize a character even if the graphics were the same. Technically nobody would have seen Aerith in there if she hadn't been seen with Squall. Aerith is a prime example of nobody recognizing her since she seems to have been a minor character. What if it had been Quistis?
What are you talking about?! I can recognize Aerith a mile away. If it would have been Rosa from part 2 how many people would have know who she was? Or have Terra replace Aerith and put in Locke instead of Squall. The younger crowd who never played the older systems would have no idea who these characters are.

I could recognize Aerith. Joz is right about using someone like Rosa, the younger crowd never would have recognized her.
I personally would have liked to see Rosa, seeing as she didn't get killed.
That's true. -1 to Cloud for not saving the girl.

That's true. -1 to Cloud for not saving the girl.
Yeah, also -7 for reliance on massive weapons, -1 for bad hair and -32 for being a whiny emo kid.
hahaha! the game is a gem though. I loved playing the game.

Yeah, it is still good but Cloud lost 41 points as a hero.

Actually, the only rule for a FF character
To be in Kingdom Hearts is they had to
be designed by Nomura, which is why
Setzer is in KH2.
I didn't know that James. I haven't even played Kingdom Hearts 2. I heard you should play Chain of Memories first, then KH 2.

You know, this is why FF is a prime example of character development reaching a high point. I'm not conceding anything in regards to the connection between it and Kingdom Hearts, which I believe has elements taken from Final Fantasy with a Disney twist. No denying that. The spells may look different, but they're the same as those of Final Fantasy.

That is not necessarily true. Kingdom Hearts 2 may be out of sequence but you could get away with playing both in either order. I've played both. I've played Final Fantasy VII and VIII. I tell you what, I play FF I and II: Dawn of Souls for GBA. Good game for GBA.
Well yeah that was the whole point. Disney got together with Square Enix to create an awsome game. As far as the spells go, every RPG has spells based on the elements and other things like poisons, cure spells and even summons. That is not unique to Final Fantasy games.

The best part is, Dissidia characters can be in Kingdom Hearts because it
was designed by Nomura.
I know what you're all thinking now, Kefka would be awesome in Kingdom Hearts,
but think about it, He'd have to be toned down so much, he couldn't say his famous,
violent lines.
If I'm not mistaken, Warrior of Light, Garland, Firion and the Onion Knight were in Kingdom Hearts: coded.

Does KH2 make any refrences to CoM? If so then I would say that you need to play them in order so you'll fully understand what's going on. But that's just me.

Dude, the names of the spells are. Come on, Try playing a game like Persona and compare it to FF. Name me one other series besides Kingdom Hearts where the names of the elemental spells are the same.
I misunderstood as to what you were referring to with the spells. Yeah, curaga, thundaga and all those other "aga" spells are probably patented by Square Enix so only they can use those spell names. What was your point anyways? Everyone knows that KH was a combination of the Disney universe and Final Fantasy.
