Laptop chillpad?

Is it worth it? I use my laptop a lot and it overheats, and I read somewhere about a chill pad could help it not overheat... Which means I can use my laptop on high performance and get better scores here.

You ask some folk on yahoo, or get some recommendations on the web. Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me.

I had a cheap one once (about $15). It did not make much of a difference. A better one might have done more, maybe.

I bet a cookie cooling rack would be about as good.

Make sure the fan vents are not clogged. If you are adventurous then you can take the back of your computer off and clean the fan and heat sink (piece of metal connected to the fan). If you are very adventurous then you can remove the heatsink and put some thermal grease on the top of the cpu and put the heat sink back.

This is much harder on a laptop and you can easily screw it up. Get a guide on the Internet before starting.

I had this since I joined RU and the Fan has never been cleaned at all. Should I start there? I am also getting more memory.

yeah you should clean your laptop's fan. I have one of those cooling units for my laptop and it works pretty good. Just make sure you get a good one. The first one I got was $12 and it lasted about a month before it started to make a very annoying noise. Still does it's job but the noise is unbearable. It's like the fan is hitting something and it won't shut up....I guess what I'm trying to say is to get a good cooling unit and not the cheapest one.

If you can afford it, you want it, and have heard good of it, then buy it. That rule has always helped me, and I am passing it on to you.

Find the fan on your laptop. That needs fresh air. If you are setting it on your bed then it is not getting air. First try putting it on some kind of elevation, example pie rack, your mom probably has one. See if that changes your problem, then decide if you should buy a chillpad.

Ok, I will try that now (It's on my stomach right now but fan still runs fast in High Performance).

Stomach is the same as a pillow. Don't do that. No fresh air there.
