Who the hell wants chips for Halloween? Btw are you using the British term or the American? Either way I can't see anyone wanting them.

This reminds me of one Halloween when I was younger. We were drinking at a friends house when some kids came to the door. We weren't expecting it so we had no candy(or we ate it I can't remember). One girl decides it's a good idea to give them waffles and little baggies of plain lays chips. Needless to say they all ended up thrown at the house a couple minutes after.

DB, sometimes there are special tiny bags of potato or corn (nacho) chips *(packets of crisps in England)
with Halloween prints on them.
Btw, when I say 'chips' I am using the Canadian term.

Yeah I know not everyone likes the same stuff, but tell me if you know anyone who likes these:
(naturally I can't find a pic right now)

they are a light brown caramel which seem to be flavored lightly with licorice and something else (it could be garbage since it tastes so bad), and they have pics of bats, black cats, and pumpkins or sometimes just skulls on orange wrappers.

SOMEONE must have tried these awful things besides me!

I think they are made by a company called Goetze.
Actually they are made by Allen candy company, who also make a lot of easter candies.

No, the ones I am talking about are a standard sized toffee in an orange wrapper twisted at both ends with either bats and cats or skulls on them, and they are made by Allen candy company.
Those licorice/choc logs look pretty bad, though.

What is it with these weird candies anyways?
Do they have 'leftovers' at the candy factory and just slap these things together regardless of how the final product will taste?

I think most of the weird candies are leftovers from the older generation. They didn't have snickers in the 1800s. I bet they had candy corn though.:(

I spent 15 minutes looking for a picture of them and couldn't find it.
It's not like they're uncommon. You get them every halloween.

Those candies look darker than I'm used to but I like them. It does have a funny name when you try to search for it though. I suggest searching with a moderate level or better to avoid horrible pictures that cannot be unseen.:lol:

If these Goetze's are the same ones I'm thinking of then they are very common. I see them in every store that carries candy.

The Goetze (Goat's?) caramel/toffee (what's the difference?) looks like the same kind I have seen made by Kraft.
I have seen those used to make candy apples, which are not bad but hard on your teeth.

The chemical composition of the twizzlers was not resilient to the corrosive action of the pepsi, resulting in progressive twizzler breakdown throughout the course of trying to use it as a straw.

In other words, when you try to use a twizzler as a pepsi straw, it will degrade into a mushy mess in the can that you won't want to eat after.
(unless you are a heavy addict of them like I was)
Even Duke Nukem cannot help this.

A 'cassette tape' was a miniature reel -to- reel magnetic tape recording/playback system popular in the 1980's, and was what allowed for the very first Walkman, which you could think of as a user un-friendly analog i-Pod.

Doesn't matter anyways since it is OLD JUNK, cassettes, Walkmans, and all.
VHS videotapes sound better than those things.

So, no love for the chips, eh?
I guess I am a strange monkey since I really liked having the saltiness of the chips to offset the sweetness of the chocolates and candies when I went trick or treating.
(of course they would be inspected before eating)

What about getting a toothbrush? I remember toilet papering a tree because we got no 'treat'.
Kids don't care about oral hygiene on haloween.

That soup thing is weird. One 6oz ladle of soup per kid into his candy bag?
Chips were a staple when I was a kid. Little half bags with like 15-20 chips.

I remember the horror of those orange with bats or witches candies too. We called them Crap candies. They were the only thing we didn't eat. One easter we found them again under some stairs where we hid them. They had bugs and really scared us. After years of therapy I am somewhat better now.

ANOTHER candy which seems not to be so popular are the 'Crunchie' chocolate bars with the weird orange/yellow centre that melts in a 'Whoppers' kind of way, yet is tough on the teeth...

For most people, it seems, these particular candies (which are a Canadian exclusive?) apparently lack appeal.
Of course there is nothing wrong with them, but perhaps they take a special kind of person to be able to appreciate their finer qualities.

For instance, not everyone can appreciate burnt toast with peanut butter, or black licorice, or Fresca pop, or hot peppers - (hey - anyone tried the hot pepper chocolates? (Lindt?)

But Jack Spratt could eat no fat
his wife could eat no lean
and twixt the two of them,
you see,
they licked the platter clean!
(or in this case they cleaned out the candy bowl!)

The option "goodie bags" seems vague to me.
It took several weeks of research and planning to decide what options should be included in the final draft of the Halloween candy poll.
Finally my staff (7 mice) and I came to the decision of 4 general categories since to try to describe every possible item which may be collected during a typical Halloween outing would be a massive undertaking.

Therefore, the category 'Goodie bags' is intended to encompass not only actual Goodie bags, but also such unusual items as rocks, soup, shrunken heads, miniature black holes, platypus eggs, and other such things.
Also, we thought it looked a lot better than 'Other'.

the strangest things that i got for halloween include a beer coaster, nba trading cards, and some lady wanting the kids to sign a card for soliders in saudi (desert shield/storm). the last one wasn't a bad thing, just a little unorthodox.

I don't get it how they are Canadian chips, and even more, uh, oh.... - Forget it.
I'm sure they are good chips even if they are from Australia, Russia, wherever - ia.

I will bet that even Cape Cod potato chips would taste bad if they were sitting around since the 1800's too!
Candy corn make good crafting materials for Kindergarten kids to make little Halloween pictures with.
But hey,
even worse than candy corn are some of the 'ethnic' candies I have tried.
'Haw Flakes' (slices of Haw) are ok once in a while but there are others (Chinese) that I swear are SO BAD they may even give the Allen Kisses some competition.
We used to have a contest to see who could leave one on their tongue the longest without having to spit it out.

Ok, so who (besides me) knows any good Halloween games?

Ok then.
Yes, I do go trick-or-treating with my youngest daughter.
I usually put on a scary mask I have modified over the years, but this year I may do something different.
I'm thinking of going out as a 'game show host' with a gaudy sportjacket and ugly tie, and wearing really thick black framed glasses.
Alternatively I have the glasses with the 'big nose, moustache and eyebrows' attached.

Weird huh?Not entirely since it seems Hollywood and the music industry tend to 'keep it in the family' so to speak, and this is why there are all sorts of little connections such as that.
(relax, the tinfoil hat is still in the top drawer.)
Take for example the connections between Sam Raimi and his brothers, Bruce Campbell, Lucy Lawless (and co-stars) which spanned through Evil Dead, Hercules/Xena/Jack of all Trades, and Spiderman.

Hey DB, recommend some good Halloween games for us!
If ANYONE gives a link to a spooky game I will try it, as long as it has a Halloween tie in of some kind.

I know Shadowgate, very well indeed because back in the late 80's I must have rented that game over a hundred times.
(never did finish it, but it is a very interesting game)
I have played it extensively but, if anyone else is thinking of trying it - be warned - it is not an easy game to play, and you may have to resort to a walkthrough guide online to help you.

Put it on the shelf for a few years, then come back to it.
It always works for me.
Ghost House is a good game, BTW
All I had was Alex Kidd and the Lost Stars, anything else I had to rent.
