Is it possible to a fill a ring doughnut with jelly?
If so how? I think it's impossible. While you're here please state your favourite doughnut.???:}

Yes you can but you have to put more aspic (gelatin) in the filling.
This makes the filling thicker and it will hold against the sides.
Think how jello will set better with more powder and the same amount of water.
Cooking 101
And yes there will be a test later.

I think it would be good if they made a filled ring donut.

I think the texture required to hold the filling in would deter the majority of consumers.

asher

It's impossible, because if you fill it(the doughnut), it(the filling) would take up to much room in the doughnut and burst.
Whereas if you made the skin thicker it would puff up to much and you would'nt taste much of the filling.

Do you mean to fill the hole in the ring?
Or the ring doughnut itself?

ZedIsDead
09-30-2009, 09:29 PM
Must be the hole. There's donuts out there which have the ring itself filled.

Also, glazed donuts are awesome. So are maple bars.

I understand that we are talking about a hypothetical doughnut, but in reality they are hideously bad for you to the degree that no one should eat them, ever.

In that light, I would say that you may as well put a scoop of ice cream with syrup and a marichino cherry in the center since you had committed yourself to eating so poorly.

Now that I mention it, has anyone else heard of the lady who uses 2 doughnuts as hamburger buns?
Man, now THAT is truly a 'heart attack on a bun' !

That's not a bun though...

And your assuming that doughnuts are pretty much poison in a bakery, but they're only potent to enlarge you or possibly damage your health if you eat more than one a day, assuming you don't eat pure healthy food for the rest of the day, and once more acknowledging the fact that nutrients are not black and white as they say.

And now, a Half Life reference to wash out anything I may have said using over 5% of my brain(sorry people, it won't happen again).

I used to like the chocolate cream filled doughnut at Dunkin Donuts but they got rid of it when people suddenly started caring about their health. I'm kinda pissed because imo if you're already buying a doughnut like that you should be aware of how bad it is. Now I just get a glazed or an old fashion(plain).

Hypothetically, it is possible to fill the ring donut with jelly. If you put the jelly in side of it before baking, chances are it would be there.

The problem is that once you take a bite of the ring jelly donut the jelly would fall out through the hole or through the outside, because the bread is thinner. Thus it would be messy and you wouldn't get as much jelly, or the satisfaction of the jelly core.

If you eat a donut once and a while (I probably have 3 donuts every 2 or 3 months) It's not that bad.

.

Donuts are fried (deep) not 'baked'. The coatings/fillings happen after they are cooked. It would not stay in at all.

You make the filling thick enough it will stand on its own and not come out. Like eating a wedge of thickened jam. Problems are moisture and temperature which affect the thickness.

They can't do a grape donut for the same reason as grape ice cream. The grape is too watery to create a solid flavor. If they used the grape flavoring used for grape juice or grape candy, it just wouldn't taste good. With Pineapple, it's more because the pineapple's taste would contrast the expected sweetness of the donut.

I also think it has to do with the acidity of the pineapple being the chief reason it is not a widely used flavor.
It won't work with Jell-O.

THAT, coupled with the fact my heart feels like it's flipping loop the loops in my chest after eating something like a doughnut or a burger is the reason why I said I can't eat that stuff.
