View Full Version : Youth = Dumb?

I'm going to ask this mostly to the younger members but, is it just around me or has the entire nation gone into stupidity. To explain, I have done some bad things like smoking but i've stopped that. But most everyone in my town, 6th grade (and under!) have started to do things like this. It gets on my nerves that every day I hear about someone, even the people i care most about, doing this with them, or drinking this, or smoking this. And I can understand the whole "I wanna know what it's like" deal but to be doing this, and not thinking anything is wrong with it is different. Especialy from kids as young as 13, 12, 11?! I want to know if this is happening wherever anyone else is located, and if so why they think its happening. I think its the towns skatepark. It's like a machine that concentrates the towns paracidic filth into one big viral cell that infects almost everyone. Not only drugs but sexual things too. I know of a 6th grader who had sex and got pregnant.

It is bad that kids as young as 11 are doing all these things but it's not anything new. People have more freedom now but young adults have always tried to grow up too soon and expose themselves to forbidden things. 50-60 years ago kids were sneaking cigarettes as young as 11 and also drinking, probably having sex as well. I know for sure about the smoking thing because my mother said she first tried it around that age.

If I were you I wouldn't worry about it, just do what you think is right for yourself.

Kugyince

Yeah, I use to sneak cigarettes as a kid. Hell, my grandfather use to come and take me out of elementary school to go fishing with him. First rule of fishing is to bring beer.

I'm not involved with drugs or alcohol myself, but it seems 75% of kids are on drugs where I live... in my new school, I have 3 friends, I was working on befriending this other group of friends until they invited me to go on an 'E' run, so I didn't.

I was almost killed on like monday or tuesday when I was walking home, this Beige windstar came skidding around a corner until it almost flipped over, it skidded back and forth across the street I was on. It dove for me and slammed right into a parked car that was right beside me, Some teenagers were laughing their heads off like they were high inside the car & they took off at 150 KM/h(100 Mph) right through a busy intersection. WTH.
Personally, I think drugs are a choice, but people who choose them wind up in situations like that.(^^^) Kids around here are for the most part, drug heads and stupid.

That doesn't say much however, people I know are smart but do stupid things.

I'm 14, and I admit to trying drugs before. That being said, it's not so much the stupidity of the user as the glamorization of the drug by media sources and other users. To a child, they see their favorite rapper smoke a little weed and they wanna do it. That being said, I did weed once, that's when I tried drugs, and didn't like the smell, so I stopped.

And a few pay the ultimate price for their bad decisions and end up wrapping their car around a tree and get killed.

But I agree with Dudebro. You do you and let them do them.

Not everyone thinks drugs are bad btw. Just because you've had a couple bad experiences on the mean streets of canada() doesn't mean you have any idea what you're talking about.

I agree with Dudebro here 100%. Stupid people are going to do stupid things, sometimes these people just happen to do drugs as well. There are many people who use drugs and do well in society. I know a couple doctors who smoke herb every once in a while, and a lawyer who does coke. Matter of fact I smoked with my history teacher on graduation day. I do know plenty of people who do use drugs and get caught up in sticky situations, but they are the type of people who no matter the factors would end up the same.

My opinion on the media influence, I dont think that makes it any worse. Everyone I have ever met who has done anything in the drug category has done it for other reasons. Peer pressure is more influence than media IMO.

What two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home is none of my concern. Problem is they're nearly all morons and think they're more than capable of getting behind the wheel of a multi-ton steel deathtrap.

You have idiots who think they're more aware and alert when they're high which isn't true no matter what they think. All studies I've seen have pointed to slower reaction times and lessened judgement abilities.

Of course you can't reason with them anyways. Finding a pot head who says they don't drive while high is like finding a prison inmate who says he's guilty.

CatalystiCam

It may cheer people up to do drugs or relax them, whatever the reason may be, it's way more adicting than cigarettes or drinking in most cases, which is sad, a lot of people have a hard enough time quitting smoking as it is, such as my other brother and my dad.

Wow really? Sorry but that's just retarded. I'm surprised you would say something like this, I didn't realize you had such a warped view of drug use.

It's nice how you focus on weed btw. Out of all the legal and illegal drugs it's probably the safest for our communities yet it remains illegal while alcohol is legal and encouraged and it's obviously more deadly for everyone. Could this be because you supposedly "grew out of weed" and you like to drink alcohol?

yeah, people who drive while high... that isn't right, and yes studies show slower reaction times and a lot of accidents resulting from it.Alcohol is legal and it's much worse to drive while drunk, where's the outrage about that? Btw studies also show these same problems while on legal prescription medications and over the counter stuff(and cell phones, eating, reading, putting on make up, ect), why should we worry about weed when ANYTHING you do while driving increases your chances of causing an accident? Oh that's right, most people are lied to about weed and they cling to their ignorant beliefs.

There was smoke coming out of the van and it smelled like weedHow nice of you to mention that AFTER I called your story bias BS. That's called backpedaling (or lieing if you prefer the more direct approach).

it's way more adicting than cigarettes or drinking in most casesStop saying things that aren't true.
Weed has no additives, it's natural. Cigarettes have many additives that are there with the intent of addicting and keeping people addicted. Alcohol is at least equal with weed when it comes to chemical addiction BUT it's much more addicting when you add in the culture of alcohol we have in the world today. Where are you getting all this BS info from?

I still think this debate should have ended with the statement: Responsible people use drugs responsibly. Irresponsible people use drugs irresponsibly. That's really all it is.

I guess that's why so many people die in alcohol influenced car accidents every year.

jim5cents

not meaning to play devils advocate, but the majority of fatalities in alcohol related accidents are people that have not been drinking. in most instances, a drunk driver is more likely to survive than someone that is not drinking due to the physiological reaction alcohol has on the human body.

now, alcohol statistics are not accurately represented in my opinion. i believe if one person either driver or passenger, in either car, has a bac of .01, then the crash is considered alcohol related.

now, since 1982, alcohol related traffic fatalities has decrease each year.

Drunk driving statistics (http://www.alcoholalert.com/drunk-driving-statistics.html)

so one could make the arguement that the youth of today is smarter than the youth of yesterday. however, i believe that this decrease is more likely due to law enforcement and increase safety features in cars.

I was under the assumption that someone would attempt to skew the facts.

Taken from the National Institute of Drug Abuse website: www.nida.gov (http://www.nida.gov)

"Driving and marijuana do not mix; that's the bottom line," said Dr. Stephen J. Heishman, a research psychologist in the Clinical Pharmacology Branch of NIDA's Division of Intramural Research. Figures from previous studies of automobile accident victims show that from 6 to 12 percent of nonfatally injured drivers and 4 to 16 percent of fatally injured drivers had tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, in their bloodstream, Dr. Heishman said. One study showed that 32 percent of drivers in a shock trauma unit in Baltimore had marijuana in their bloodstream, he noted.

...Dr. Heishman tested marijuana's effects on the functional components of driving. Study subjects smoked a marijuana cigarette, waited 10 minutes, then smoked another cigarette. Both cigarettes contained either 0, 1.8, or 3.6 percent THC. Twenty minutes after smoking the cigarettes, the subjects were given a standard sobriety test similar to a roadside sobriety test. The test showed that marijuana significantly impaired their ability to stand on one leg for 30 seconds or touch their finger to their nose. As the dose of THC increased, the subjects swayed more, raised their arms, and had to put their feet down in an attempt to maintain their balance. Subjects also committed 2.5 times more errors when they attempted to touch their nose with their finger.

Highway and urban driving studies conducted in the Netherlands show less impact on actual driving. However, these driving studies used very low doses of marijuana for safety reasons, Dr. Heishman said. Future research using appropriate safety measures should test the effect of higher doses of marijuana on driving as well as the combined effect of marijuana and alcohol on driving, he concluded.
Emphasis mine.

What I have noticed from most studies done with THC is they use people who rarely smoke the stuff. Smoking when your tolerance is that low makes a huge difference. I am not saying I condone it but it is what it is. So take a person who smokes a couple blunts a day of actual chronic which averages from about 15-22% THC to do these same tests and I am sure there will be a different outcome. Better yet have these chronic smokers smoke those schwag joints of 3.6 THC at most and I bet they wont even be high. Also having THC in your blood stream shows no evidence that was the underlying cause of any accidents. Did these people only have THC in thier system or was there alcohol as well, or anyother form of a drug. THC can stay in your system for up to 3 months. Say a pothead quits smoking today but gets in an accident on halloween, it will still show up in his system and be added to those results.

Personally I think all these studies on THC are flawed. One major difference is there is no way to measure it like there is alcohol. You can take people and give them drinks til they are at a certain limit that they can measure. Weed you cant.

Again I want to say I dont condone driving while under the influence of anything, presciption or recreational. Just I dont believe these tests done on THC at all.

I think people like this will be involved in stupid stuff regardless if they are on drugs or not.

I agree. Getting a urine sample and testing positive does not mean you are under the influence of maryjane.

What about testing for LSD? "Note that standard, cheap initial drug screening does not use chromatography or mass-spectrometry, and does not look for LSD. " LSD FAQ (part 3) (http://www.a1b2c3.com/drugs/lsd08c.htm)

Not much on the topic, but relating to your quote, people have spread rumors that I'm a neo-nazi, a sex offender, and an arsonist.(none of these being true of course)

Rumors come and go, when you can't ignore it keep a sarcastic tone about it and people won't think it's funny or interesting, either that or alert somebody.

Another thing I've noticed is that each year, the 7th graders in my town's high school get smaller and smaller. By 2015, we're gonna have little baby children running the halls of the high school...what is the world coming to?

yeah, 7th graders are like 4 1/2 feet, I've seen some in the 3 foot category

I'm in grade nine btw.

I don't think that young people should be stereotyped like this, even though a lot of them are dumb.

I know a few people 9th grade and up, who are around that height.

My dad is 5' 11" I'm the same as him, and the second oldest brother remains the tallest at 5' 12" I'm still growing. I was 5' 9" a few months back

Nice, I'm 6'2", my bro is actually about that tall as well. I'd assume he just hit 6 foot.

I believe that the percentage of pot smokers who drive while high is significantly higher than the percentage of drinkers who drive while drunk. I would guess around 75% for pot smokers while 15% of drinkers.

Perhaps your right about there being more smokers than drinkers driving. But what's the percentage of smokers getting into accidents vs drinkers getting into accidents?
I can tell you from experience that I have crashed into a house, backed up into a cement post, hit curbs and exploded my tire, gotten pulled over and arrested and a few other things for driving while being drunk. Now driving while I was high I've never had anything bad happen to me or anyone else around me.

So I think drinking is more dangerous than smoking when it comes to conducting a motor vehicle. However being under the influence of anything and driving is unwise.

My imperial system might be off as I usually use the metric.
Isn't 5'12" the same as 6'. Why not just say 4'24"?

What's with all the tall people? You're putting me to shame.

@jozman: Don't feel too bad. I'm generously listed as 5'8", 120 lbs. I'm a small guy.

The thing about my height is that I am only 16, and not done growing. My shoes are size 15.

I'm 5'9" or so, so I'm with you guys. Don't feel too bad. Many of the most successful people in the world are what would be considered below average height.

Like Dio, he is 5'4'' and is credited with 'inventing' the 'devil horns' gesture.
