Which one is Better? I'm not saying mine because I'm afraid it'll start an argument.

You should have put a poll on this one MM, so people could choose. As for me, it's Gojira (Godzilla) all the way! He could smoke King Kong any old day. Unless of course we are talking about Godzilla from the 1990's American version. In that case it should be Godzilla vs Pikachu to be a fair fight. ;)

I doubt anyone will get in a heated debate over this. Don't be afraid to speak your mind.

I voted Godzilla. He would smoke King Kong in a heartbeat. Last I checked KK isn't taller than a sky scraper. Even without the whole shooting electricity thing godzilla is just more powerful.
The only chance KK would have is because of his agility. If he tired godzilla out he could finish him off.

Okay. Well I choose King Kong.

Slightly off topic, I have always found it ironic that there were two endings filmed in the old Godzilla vs King Kong movie - one with each winning, so it could be shown in the respective country that the monster hailed from. Still in real life, I agree that the real Godzilla would smoke almost any other monster. Look at how he beat Mothra, Mechagodzilla, Ghidra, and more.

I like the ape, but I don't think he could make it long against the radioactive Gojira. I heard someone say once that even an Italian plumber could beat King Kong.

To be fair, Kong did beat some T-rex's and raptors pretty handily, and he is better with women. If the contest was who is the biggest ladies man, Kong would win every time. He is kind of the mac daddy when it comes to movie monsters. While Godzilla just goes back to the sea (his mother's basement perhaps?) after every battle, Kong scores with the chicks. ;)

It must be the eating out of dumpsters thing.

Indeed. Living off the land must stir up their primal sexual instincts. Maybe we should start a T.V. series called "That's Our Kong". Actually, maybe we don't need it, as MacGyver kind of lived like that too. I wonder if Kong can make a missle launcher out of banana peels, panty hose, and vegetable oil? That would be awesome, and his Hero Points would go up yet another level! ;)

If I haven't said it recently, you da (ape)man Kong! ;D

Nah not really.

I voted kong as kong scores with the chicks!

If this was real life an ape would squish a lizard no problem. Otherwise i go with Gojira. He never dies, just goes back to sleep in the ocean. Didn't King Kong die?

He has died in some movies, but then Son of Kong, and other Kong type creatures would come into the picture. Also, Kong does not fear death, as he knows he will be resurrected in the many remakes of the first movie that come out every few years.

Godzilla, fo sho.
He shoots lasers, and stomps on cars.
King Kong is just a big freakin monkey that used to scare me when I was younger.
Besides, the Godzilla fighting games are cooler than the King Kong video games, in my opinion.

Godzilla fires nuclear energy not lazers and King Kong is an ape not a monkey.

Godzilla is much more powerful than Kong even if Kong was the same size. The only reason Godzilla didin't beat Kong right away is because the movie would have been too short. Godzilla has nucler power. King Kong is just an ape. I still think King Kong is great but he is no Godzilla.

Godzilla would beat King Kong, Gamera, Ultraman and Rhedosaurus. His series expanded far beyond any of them, and he is more powerful. Maybe Ultraman would stand up to him. I don't know about Daimajin or Cloverfield.

On a side note, I'd like to explain the origin of monster movies. Treasure Island was the inspiration for King Solomon's Mines. That story began the lost world subgenre of the adventure genre, and it inspired The Lost World. The 1925 movie featured an attack by a brontosaurus on London, which inspired King Kong. That, in turn, inspired The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, and that inspired Godzilla. I'd like to see Mecha-Long John Silver.

Godzilla fires nuclear energy

i believe the coined phrase was "thermonuclear death breath"

Mikman
10-08-2009, 02:22 PM
I always considered it a "nuclear ray."

Godzilla's heat ray should not be seen. Neither should phasers from Star Trek or blaster bolts from Star Wars. They should all be invisible, like the heat rays from the book The War of the Worlds.

Godzilla was best when he wasn't a caveman. I like him more as a villain.

The entire Japanese military could not do didly-dah to Godzilla.

It took six U.S.A. fighter planes and a distraction to take out King Kong.

Well, the fact that Godzilla is about five times the size of King Kong says a lot too.

Godzilla for sure. I mean Godzilla beat MechaGodzilla, King Ghidorah, Rodan, Gigan, Megalon, Zilla, King Kong, Kamakiras, Kumonga, Orga, and some others I forgot the names of.

King Kong

or Godzilla?
http://www.mariowiki.com/images/2/22/YoshiMP8art.png

I like Godzilla due to his overall coolness factor, but King Kong is sort of cuddly, and he is a Monkey, after all.
When it comes to movies, Godzilla wins.
Game-wise Godzilla had some bad games in the NES days, but now there are some really good ones.
I didn't like any of the King Kong movies.
I don't know too many King Kong games, so I can't say much, but there is the obvious reference to King Kong in 'Donkey Kong'.

BTW, did you guys know that Nintendo originally intended his name to be 'Monkey Kong'?
It is only because of poor translation or a typo that we know him as 'Donkey Kong' instead !

This anatomical sketch of Godzilla reveals a relatively small brain, giant lungs that allow underwater breathing, leg muscles that can support 20,000 tons of body weight, and a “uranium sack” and “nuclear reaction sack” that produce radioactive fire-breath and energize the body.

I got this out of my biology book but it didn't have one for King Kong, who now I think is just a movie character.

I'm pretty sure the story goes that Shigeru Miamoto wanted to give him a name of a different animal so it would be a little more original than Monkey, so he decided to make him a stubborn guy, hence the characteristics of a donkey.(Donkey Kong would later be named Cranky Kong, the new Donkey Kong is the old one's grandson, with the new one's father I suppose being Donkey Kong Jr.)

All of that is urban legend. Shigeru Miamoto never said how he picked the name other than that he wanted it to be English.

Perhaps I went to far when I brought up Shigeru's name, but It's just a story I heard and I'm not sure if it's true.

Miamoto said himself he called it "Donkey" because it was a stubborn monkey
who threw barrels at Mario (Donkeys are stubborn) and "Kong" because
Kong means monkey.

Mikman

King Kong is the oldest "movie monster", though he is not the first creature to rampage through a city in a movie. That was the brontosaurus from The Lost World, as I have stated before.

Godzilla never laid any eggs except in the American remake. His son from the series was always an adopted son.

The myth that Godzilla won in the Japanese version and that Kong won in the American version is not true. The only difference is that in the Japanese version Godzilla roared at the end, while in the American version Kong roared at the end. Who the winner was really is not clear to me, but Kong was supposed to be the "good guy."

I thought I remembered that in King Kong Vs. Godzilla, they wrestled their way into a lake and then only King Kong emerged. But then again, Godzilla lives under water, so...maybe he just went home?

Regardless, Gojira is way cooler. I did my final project in my high school Japanese class on Gojira.

Mikman
10-19-2009, 11:48 AM
That is exactly what happenned. Many say Kong won, but others say it was Godzilla because he was more adept to aquatic environments. I still think Godzilla is much stronger.

I think the people who made King Kong vs Godzilla didn't know who would win so they made it seem sort of like a tie

I agree.

I hear that a new Godzilla movie is coming out in 2014. I don't know if this is true or not, but I think that they shouldn't make another Godzilla film for a few decades to renew interest.

Not to be off topic but having endless sequels never hurt the characters 'Jason' or 'Mike Myers', who star collectively in nearly 8753 films to date.

I agree with this to an extent. Though in my opinion, Godzilla movies should only be made outside of the US. Because the US version was just horrible.

As you can tell, Godzilla get's my vote. King Kong has no chance.

I agree. If a Godzilla film is made in America, it should be made by the Japanese.

What do you think the next Godzilla film we be like? I think that, whenever it is made, he should go into space.
