This is an new section where everyone can address questions regarding games that you would like the mods to know about.
Things that should be posted here:
1. Requests to have a game score enabled.
2. Questions about score submissions.
3. Questions and/or remarks about a game being farmable or not.
4. Comments and corrections about game images and descriptions.
5. Comments about games glitching.
Things that do not go here:
1. Issues with ArcadeOX, Java, or Flash should read: http://retrouprising.com/support/retro-uprising-support/read-before-asking-support/t2678/
2. Bugs, feedback, and feature requests that involve the site should be posted here instead: http://retrouprising.com/support/retro-uprising-support/bugs-feedback-feature-requests/t10/
3. Requests to have games added to the site should be posted here: http://retrouprising.com/video-games/ru-games/game-requests/t930/
Of course you can still feel free to PM any of us with questions or concerns as always, but this section will hopefully provide an area where people can discuss issues and ask the mods questions in a forum style format.

Great thread topic!
I was wondering if it's possible to get more pinball games enabled for high scoring. There are 2 in particular:
Dragon's Fury and Phycho Pinball, both for Sega Genesis.

dragon's fury can not be enabled, there are passwords that give you a ton of points and balls
Dragon's Fury Cheats, Codes, and Secrets for Genesis - GameFAQs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/genesis/code/586150.html)
psycho pinball can not be enables, there is a password that gives you a free ball unlimited times, i tested this one.
Psycho Pinball Cheats, Codes, and Secrets for Genesis - GameFAQs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/genesis/code/921805.html)
let me talk to the other mods and see if they want to enable them and mark them as farms.

I hear you, but there is no current way to know if one is used. I have had to alter some games that I had the High Score in as well because a cheat code or other farm method was found. Overall the best way is to mark something as Farmable and then you can still compete for the high score if you want, but it would only for your own satisfaction.

Test the game. If it has a score then enable scores. Test the cheat codes if they work and don't do anything that is detectable like display the words "debug mode" on the screen or turn your character a different color then mark it as farm.

I thought I seen a thread for messed up games but I couldnt find it. Hope it's ok to put here. I dont know if this is just my computer or if everyone would have a problem but this games graphics are jumbled all around. Mechanized Attack (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/2356/). It's not a game I would play alot but I figured I would mention it just in case it's an easy fix.

I actually thought more and Had a reply to myself..
Every game has some way to cheat. not just in code.. its just that players find ways to make tons of points, and tend to upload them on sites like youtube..
If someone wants a high score on say super mario Brothers, they just need to watch a few you tube videos.. and will be farming points like no ones business..

kevin, i have marked both psycho pinball and dragon's fury as farmed games, both have either undetectable passwords or in game cheat codes that can either give you high scores with a ton of balls or unlimited balls.
unfortunately, dragon's fury 2, a game which you have a high score is also farmable as it has an undetectable password for a ton of free balls. i'm not saying that you used it, but if another gamer used the password to take down your score, that wouldn't be fair, so i have to mark it has farmable.

I understand. I was aware of the cheat code. It gives you something like 30 million points and 30 balls. It is kind of a shame though, I must have spent over 10 hours on that game practicing for the high score.... the honest way. >:D

That's the reason why we have to mark games that can be cheated as farmable or score disabled. It's not fair to leave a game like this enabled and people set honest scores only to have someone cheat to get the high score.

Devil's Crash is one of my favorites. Unfortunately, I think it is farmable. If that is the case then it can be marked "high farms".
Justin, try to beat my Dragon's Fury II score for Genesis. It is marked as farmable but I didn't use any cheats for it.

That's correct Kevin. Due to a massive amount of cheats, Devil's Crash can't be enabled for High Scores. However, I did set it to Farmable, so you guys can compete for the High Farm if you would like to.

It seems to be working properly today.
I believe it was caused by clicking out of the Balloon Fight tournament page without closing the toggled game screen beforehand. Right after that is when I started experiencing difficulties.
Gamenguru
06-19-2009, 05:08 PM
I had a problem with the Balloon Fight tournament a little while ago. I tried to log into the tournament and got an "Error: Game did not load." message. I then checked the tournament bracket again and it said that I hadn't played in 3 days, yet it had used one of my turns.
I deleted the ArcadeOX files on "My Computer" and then tried to play the game in the standard arcade score mode. Suddenly it started working. I'm a little hesitant to try and play in the tournament again until I know the problem is fixed, because I've already lost 1 turn.
1. You can test it from the regular game menu. If it works in ArcadeOX Score Mode then it should work in the tournament.
2. If you lose too many attempts due to technical glitches let me know and I will give you extra tries.

I checked on this Justin, and unfortunately the Score Mode has a glitch that prevents it from being played at all in that mode currently. If that can be fixed, we can enable it as a Farmable score. There is a apparently a glitch in the game that essentially makes you invincible, so it can't be set as a High Score type of game currently.

I just got a highscore in Empire City 1931 for the NES but it registered as a zero. The picture of the screen shows my score, and I was wondering if it will still count.
Also, is this the right place to post stuff like this?
jim5cents
07-03-2009, 09:26 AM
yes, this is the correct place for stuff like this.
when you submit a high score, it will be registered as 0 until one of the mods approves the score. when i checked, you had 3 scores submitted for empire city, i approved 2, the last score is from the hi-score screen and i am unsure which one is yours. just respond with what your final score was and i'll approve that.

My question is about difficulty on games when getting a score. Because there is no way to tell what setting you had when you got the 'high score'. I've never used an easy setting but is this a variation of farming?
jim5cents

there is no way to tell. i do know on many games, the score values you receive is less on an easier difficulty level.

You can adjust the game options any way you choose. More man, more continues, easier difficulty level, control layouts etc. But like Jim said sometimes the easy settings give less points.
OldTimer

Yeah, i am going to flag myself on the 2 games i scored on.
Bugs bunny atari has 4 difficulty modes with just being how 'Fast' the game is. (my score was on the high hard setting).
Alex kidd for the Genesis is a farmable game because the enemes do respawn. Also the difficulty just gives you more lives. (i didn't farm and i used the average setting for my game)
Kugyince

Also, sometimes a harder difficulty setiing will equal more enemies, thus more points.

before we jump to concusions that it's the game, Is anyone else having trouble with AOX score mode in general?
1. Home Improvment does not work in Score Mode.
2. There is a known bug. In Firefox SNES Full Mode will not work after you play a ArcadeOX Score Mode game. You have to close Firefox after playing aOX Score and before playing SNES Full.
3. Home Improvement works in Full Mode.
I will leave Score Mode enabled for a bit so others can confirm that is true. If you do not agree let me know and I will look into it more.

Retro Uprising - Arcade - Aerobiz - Highscores (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/99/scores/)
I think there's some confusion with this high score.
My score is 3170K. The new high score is 480K. There's a problem with how it was entered.
Also the snes version has a mistake.
Retro Uprising - Arcade - Aerobiz Supersonic - Highscores (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/100/scores/)
Second place is money, not passenger totals.
These games should be score disabled, they're rpgs so money is a terrible judge of score. I suggested Starflight but the more I think about it the more I realize it will eventually be farmed like crazy.
Retro Uprising - Arcade - Shadowrun (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/3497/)

Another one to either mark as farm or remove from high score, Retro Uprising - Arcade - Legend of Kage, The - Highscores (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/2140/scores/)
I used to have the high score a long time ago and I remember what the first few levels look like, the second place score is definately farmed(higher than my score and still on the first level). The first place one is hard to tell but luckily he's a friend of mine who never stuck around, he admited he farmed it to beat my score.
It's been a while but I think in the first level you can basically run around killing non stop if you don't kill a certain obvious enemy. Once you kill him the level ends and then next ones are too dangerous to farm. Damn shame too since this game is pretty damn cool, one of my childhood favorites.

Fogelmir, some games can not be score enabled because there are cheat codes, easy ways to farm, etc. However, things like Batman Returns could probably be turned on as a FARMABLE high score. I'll check into it in a bit, and then turn them on if possible.

Batman Returns can't be score enabled. Score mode does not work.
"Score mode disabled because it is unplayable. The player receives a message that states 'This Game Pak is not designed for your Super Famicom or Super NES.' Full mode does not have this problem."
I wouldn't get your hopes up on Axelay. It doesn't work correctly with arcadeOX.

TMNT is selfexplainable.
Tiny Toons you can just be caught by elmyra and keep on repeating the level without dying.
Buster's Hidden Treasures has redoable levels ala Mario World
Double Dragon's bat glitch
Sonic Spinball can just get stuck in a bumper holding a button.

Well, I did use it as an example for that farming question, yes they respawn.
End of every second level, it was mentioned before when I initially caught someone cheating in '08 on it. Was the reason we started removing farms.

I added a description for this game and high score enabled it. It has a high score screen when you leave the dungeon or die. So far I saw no way to farm/cheat. It's not a very well known game so I found barely any info on google to confirm that.
Retro Uprising - Arcade - Taloons Great Adventure Mystery Dungeon (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/7772/)
Oh and btw, this game is awesome. It's a dungeon crawler in the Dragon Warrior universe(DW4 to be specific).
Edit- So it seems you can die as much as you want but your gold resets to 0 and your level to 1. This isn't a problem right? The high score screen is just your scores so if there's more than one just go with the highest.

Horseshoes - you have to tweak the analog controls from the tab menu and even then it barely works. Needs trackball. Probably should delete.
AmeriDarts - same as horseshoes.
Best Bout Boxing. Sorry I took your trophy.
Run and Gun - After the game loads hold shift F2 and F5. You only have to do this once and do it in Full Mode. After that it will work everytime. I will fix this in the next version so you don't have to do it.

Wouldn't selecting a level other than the first mean you get a lower score? That might defeat the purpose of a score run I think.

they issue might be that later bosses might give more points, like in contra, where the last boss gives a kajillion points. someone will have to confirm or deny the layout of the points.
sonic also has a one up loop in one of the levels, it should be set to farm.

On AC Contra that's not an issue, the game stops after the last boss is defeated, if someone cheated they would have just a million, a full run would add some ~300000 to that and beat them. On NES Contra that would be an issue, since the game starts over again whoever is playing just picked up a cool million for free.
R-Type III lets you play two loops, second loop is much harder. After that the game stops on the final score screen.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that eventually someone is going to play the game honestly, and beat the high score of anyone who cheated, simply because they went through all the levels. If you go through all the levels, you're simply going to get a higher score. For R-Type III this makes level select pointless and detrimental for score runs.

If that's true then I agree the game should be enabled.
Unfortunately, whether someone is good enough to beat it or not, the issue is that someone can stand on the first level for three hours racking up points and scoring 1-UPS then go on to finish the game with all the extra lives acquired.
I can understand your perspective, but unfortunately if a game can be cheated in, someone will eventually. That is why most of the Contras have to be set as FARMABLE. If a game can be cheated in easily, eventually someone will, and will set a higher score than someone who did it fairly. I have had to mark many many games as this myself, and lost trophies, because cheat codes or farms existed.

Sorry DB. Actually, I was replying to Seahawk, but I hit reply on your post. Sorry for the confusion.
The specific issue I was referring to was in Contra. No matter how good of a score someone can set fairly, it won't touch what kind of score someone can set via farm. We have already had issues with the Contra series for this reason (bummer since it's one of my favorite series). The Arcade version is no exception unfortunately.

Ok. I see your point about Contra. I guess it'd be the same for Metal Slug if it ever came to the site =(. Btw Super Contra AC should be set to farm then.
But anyways, back to the point, I don't think this situation or a cheating with a level select code would apply to R-Type III, as the screen is always going forward, and the game stops eventually, so there is a finite score to be made.

I can't remember in Metal Slug, but any game where you can just stand in place forever and have enemies respawn forever would fall into this category. The only real exception I can think of is when a game has a timer, where you die if you run out of time. In that case the respawning would not be an issue. Unfortunately, Contra does not operate on a time system (except for a couple of leveles).
I updated Super C and set it to Farmable.
I agree on level selects in general. That would decrease your score, not increase it. If that was the only code for a game, I think that should stay score enabled.
Seahawk

Metal Slug has a timer, but its veeeeeeeeeeery long. Also I believe enemies will stop spawning after a while, then the game will flash "GO ->" at you. But anyways.
Gamefaqs doesn't list any cheats other than the level select. R-Type III currently has scores disabled, if there are no more issues I ask that scores be enabled.

sonic also has a one up loop in one of the levels, it should be set to farm.
i believe that 1 up loop is in sonic 3 in the launch base zone. you can just charge your spin dash right at the alarms, and not let go of down, and enemies will keep flying into you until you start getting 10000 points for each enemy, meaning you can get about 50 lives before the timer hits 10:00

Location: In Green Hill Zone - Act 3, at the very bottom of the level is a 1-Up .
How to: Grab it along with enough rings to make 100 for a 2nd life. Next, take the 1-Up at the top of the loop-de-loop and die. Repeat until you have enough lives.

Game: Arkanoid
System: NES
Subject: debate if it is a cheat game.
Problem #1:
There is a cheat that can be used as an exploit to indirectly aid in increasing the score. It is the A+START cheat. It is used any time during the level, and it will interrupt it and bring you to the next stage. That means its only purpose is to save some lives, as it gives you no extra points of any sort.
the bad:
- it will interrupt the level at any time, making it possible to save a ball that would otherwise be lost.
- it was designed by the programmers as a cheat code.
the "good":
- it only works until level 16 (the game has 33 levels).
- it is hard to get it to work consistently (maybe not if it's possible to map a button to have A+START)
- it doesn't directly give any points.
- you leave blocks BEHIND if you use it. That means that in a perfect game of arkanoid this cheat wouldn't be used, because one would want to destroy all blocks in the game.
Problem #2:
The enemies are respawning, but it is REALLY hard to farm points out of them. The most likely thing to happen is a game over if such a thing is attempted for even a minute.

Retro Uprising - Arcade - Batman (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/349/)
There are some enemies that are stuck on the ceiling that keep shooting enemies at you, and you can kill each one of those enemies for 100 points. It will then drop either a health bar, 10 ammo, or 1000 bonus points. They are infinite, I think it qualifies as a farm. You can even position yourself in a pixel perfect manner under them so you don't have to move, just keep pushing B with good timing so you don't get hit. I have just played it and killed a LOT of those enemies. The former #1 has a score that was most likely obtained by doing that too.

Batsugun is a troublesome game for MAME, and is not emulated accurately, hence the warning boxes when you start up.
Anytime you see the warning boxes before coin op startup you should take note of what they say, because this is a problem with the emulator, not ArcadeOX. We can't fix it.

There isn't a hard limit. Really long score submissions will eventually start acting wonky. There have been 15 hour ones before that worked and 3 hour ones that failed. So all I can say is it might work and it might not. If you do decide to try mastering Uncharted Waters, do use P to pause whenever you are not playing.

Is there a way to mute the music of a game in ArcadeOX Score Mode?
Seahawk
09-03-2010, 11:40 PM
Depends if you mean just the music, or music and sound effects.
For just music, the answer for practical purposes is no. You can try though. On a game, hit Tab to pull up the menu, then hit slider controls. Then you can adjust the volume of each sound channel output from whatever sound chip your game uses. This means you'll have to be familiar with each game and sound chip combination =P. Not recommended.
If you mean all audio from the game, then yes, it's easy. Just hit the tilde (the '~' character, to the left of the '1' key), and bring master volume to 0.

Sorry if this isnt in the correct area, but if I was to make a review on a game already reviewed, would I not be allowed to make it?
I wanted to make a Paper Mario review, but I saw Chuck Norris already made one, and I wanetd to know before I started it, if it was ok to make a review one a game that someone already made. Thanks in advance :)

The rules normally say that you shouldn't make duplicate threads. However you may do this for the review board because otherwise only the first review for a game would get any attention, since all other reviews of the same game would be posted inside it.
So, it is ok to post a review of a game that someone else has already reviewed.

You may.
Thanks Tenser
Here on my Arcade Stats page Retro Uprising - Arcade - Your Rankings (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/user/19919/) it says I have 39 first place scores. On the profile by the left, it says 1st Places: 28, so I wanted to know if it just says that and I already have credit for the games. If a mod could please look at this, that'd be great. Thanks in advance :)
This was an issue with everyone on the site and not just you.
I fixed several causes of this. It is working correctly now.

Whenever I submit a score, it doesnt appear in the "Latest Scores" box. Im not sure why but I havent seen any of my scores I've submitted in a while.
