Continued from another thread per request of Kong
1. All of the old testament was originally oral history the same as the Iliad and the Odessey. And much of the New Testament. There is not one part of the Bible that was written while Jesus was alive so all of the Jesus quotes are merely hearsay.
2. There is absolutely zero corroboration outside of the Bible that Jews lived in Egypt or that any of that Exodus stuff ever happened. There is almost no outside corroburation that a man named Jesus ever lived. Certainly not enough to say it is historical fact that he did exist. I don't know about the Cannan part.
i misspoke, the events of the bible should be refered to as religious history, many studies attempt to tie in roman, greek, egyptian, and mesopotiam histories and find the connections, if any. some of the obvious characters that are known in historical record include herod the great, based off of hebrew records, casear, pilate and peter, all based off of roman records, peter's records do relate to his execution in rome, rather than his time around jerusalem. there have been around 30 other cases of kings in the region that have been id'ed in the bible and through recovered monuments and scripts, including the moabite stone or the mesha stele, the amarna letters, the babylonian chronicles which detail the siege of jerusalem by nebuchandnezzer, and the cylander of nabonius. sites such has herod's temple provide some historical record as well.
one leading idea behind the accuracy of exodus comes from the ipuwer papyrus, a poem which describes drought, devestation of crops, famine, death due to a group leaving their servitude. a curious statement in the poem mentions that "the river is blood" the ipuwer papyrus is dated to around 13BCE, while the first portions of exodus are thought to be written between 9-10 BCE.
egyptian inscriptions and the amarna letters do describe a group named the habiru that lived on the border of egypt and the sinai, basically a milita group that was hired as a border guard, however, once the habiru's raids got out of control, the egyptian record is that they were made to work manual labor instead. this is entirely speculation btw. if these people were hebrew, and scholars debate if they are based on the similar name, it is likely they would have altered from made to work, to enslaved in their records.
and yes, correct, there is no historical record of jesus during his life. the first record is a roman one written about 70 AD. there are multiple records during christ's time of his jewish contemporaries that make no mention of him at all.

the events of the bible should be refered to as religious history
So if I make up a religion can I make up my own history too? This sounds fun! Seriously though, it's either history or it's not.

Commandments of the church of dudebro
1. Ducks are made in dudebro's image, honor all ducks, especially mallards
2. If thou sees a duck, and has bread, thou shall feed that bread to the duck.
3. Thou shall not worships any beards, unless it is dudebro's beard.
See, that was easy, religious history of the church of dudebro.

I guess we know what animals cannot be eaten in Dudeism (the religion of the Dudebro). That's a bummer. I guess I won't be able to join your religion Bro. Although, I respect those who do. Like I told you, as much as ducks are some of my favorite creatures and I am all for them having preserved wetlands, I do enjoy eating an occasional one as well. Forgive me for that Lord DB.

I love animals and I still eat red meat. I think as long as we aren't wasteful or killing off a species we're all good.
Btw my bad for going off topic, sometimes it just happens.

I agree 100%. I really respect groups like Ducks Unlimited that devote themselves to raising awareness and helping preserve wetlands for Ducks and other wee beasties.
Thanks for going off topic DB. This is the first interest I have had in this thread. No offense to any one, but I have just had so many conversations like this one in my life I am kind of over them. Carry on though people. I'll try not to interrupt your debate too much.

the problem with commandment #1 is that people interpert honor all ducks, to mean, honor them by having them as a tasty main course...yummy. so, there is some confusion and debate among the members of the church of dudebro
@winnebagel...forget the original debate, this duck convo is way better.
@dudebro, is there a way to edit the thread topic and to put it in a different section

Welcome to the Church of Dudebro!!!
This thread started as a debate about ancient history/Bibical history, but this turned out to be way better.
Three Commandments make up Laws of Dudebro. See previous page. However, you may submit new laws or make up historical stories that how make up this churches' history. For example, the original commandments where give to Dudebro by a flock of mallards after they completed their 3000 mile migration.

From there I feel I should go to all the harlots and women of ill repute in the land and plant THE SEED. From there I will move on to the common and noble women folk of the land alike. THE SEED must be for all people, though I feel my main thrust will be to the women. I will even plant THE SEED with Faith. @ Tenser/Mighty Avian Prophet Eagle Man (henceforth called, "MAPEM"), I think perhaps one even lowly as I can plant THE SEED and even if some are disappointed many will not be. That is why I must be sure to plant THE SEED with every woman in the land. This way enough of THE SEED will be planted to succeed through the law of averages.
@ Jim, you may want to sow doubt, but the child you showed should also love and be cared for (even if the little dodo has a short life expectancy). And who knows, if enough of THE SEED is planted perhaps it will turn into a lovely...

2nd Book of Bible of the Church of Dudebro - Migration
The voyage had be long and perilous, leaving the tropic climate of southern mexico some 3 months before, the duck king, graybill, was leading his flock to the feeding grounds in northern canada. sensing that the flock was weak and in need of rest, graybill decided to land, but upon landing, graybill realized instant danger. the flock had landed in a field where a group of hippies were playing ultimate frisbee. graybill knew the end was near when he suddenly heard a mighty roar. the hippies cleared and graybill looked and saw the mortal man. his beard was majestic and the loaf of bread he held looked delicious. the man feed the bread to graybill and his flock and graybill asked the man for his man, "Dudebro", the man replied. graybill said onto Dudebro "you are my favorite among mortal men, i task you to pass down my word to the masses so they may learn the rule of the ducks and all of my avian cousins" Dudebro accepted the duck commandments. Before leaving, graybill called out to Dudebro, "Dudebro my son, beware of those that claim to pass the SEED of the avians, they are false prophets and will doom us all" With that, graybill and his flock rose to the sky, to continue with their migration.

I think you have a couple of options:
1) You can try to find a professional. I have heard that they do a great job but that they can be very expensive and often charge by the hour, so that might not be the best way to go.
2) You can try to find a volunteer who will do this for free or at least for a discounted rate. I hear there are a lot of coconut fans out there who will often be willing to carry these for long periods of time with the right incentive.
So, you have a lot to think about and decide which way to go. I have also heard that there are a lot of potential volunteers at many local bus stops, so that is another idea.

That's excellent. I bet those "carrier bags" are nice and hopefully comfortable. If you are going to carry coconuts everywhere, that is probably a smart way to go. I agree that it is probably best to get a volunteer when they are still fresh. I have heard that the market value of produce in general (including coconuts I suppose) goes down over time as the produce continues to ripen with time. I have also heard that some of the better carrier bags out there can help better distribute coconuts, so maybe that would help. Otherwise, you may want to watch our for when men and women try to look at your coconuts too much because they may be trying to steal them. Not everyone can be trusted with coconuts, though most people want them or want to carry them, so be careful!

They offer to swap thier fruit for my coconuts, and that can be sometimes fun.
I like my coconuts but I like bannas and plums more :p
It sounds like you have a virtual cornucopia of carrier bags.
As long as there is fair and equitable trade going on then that should be fine. You just have to watch out for fruit and melon thieves that often prowl around and do not want to offer goods or fair trade in return.
I suppose that's fine if that's what you like. I guess they all have their own health benefits. I have never been a banana & plum fan myself, but I have heard they are high in potassium and other life giving nutrients. I have always been more of a fan of peaches and coconuts myself, but as long as you are eating a healthy meal then, bon appetit!
Maybe we should designate you the official overseer of Agricultural Affairs in the church of Dudebro. ;)

A reading from the Book of Mallard
As the mallards spread their wings in flight, they saw all of the great species of duck. Mallard, Canvasbacks, Mandarins, the Northern Pintails, the Cape Teals, and all of the other great duck species as one across the northern skies. Through their flight, the mallard king, Graybill, remembering the words of Dudebro, realized that although each duck was different, they were all of the same. Graybill took it upon himself to send a message to all followers of Dudebro. Organizing the flock, they flew into a formation, that when seen from the ground, an image of Dudebro's face could be seen. Truly a miracle.

You see everyone, I think when His Royal Dudeness was quoted as saying he didn't like drinking alcohol, he was trying to say that he doesn't like drinking it on Sunday, so we should not allow liquor to be sold on Sunday. I think the issue here is that people took him literally, when His Dudeness really wanted to teach us through a parable.

"If you pilage thy town, ye shall be sorry to the extremeness, I will steel all ye marble and wine"

The only way to be sure of this is to follow the traditional ways of Dudeism as shown in the traditional Dudeist ritual of Dudevining which was created by His Dudeness himself back in the time of Witch War II.
I was fortunate enough to find the exact procedure demonstrated in a brief documentary. Pay special attention as this detailx the exact procedure.

I honestly thought that this was a joke that would only last a day or two. But it seems "The Church of Dudebro" is going to become a RU meme. I'm a bit creeped out by all this, but I must admit, I am a bit jealous.:)

well, no one dislikes you, like I've said, you're Neutral-Ninja, ha, that should be your nickname.
I'm just curious, whst's the 'TIAMAT' in 'Ninjatiamat' mean?
Dudebro
07-18-2009, 02:49 AM
Tiamat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It's a well known mythological creature. I find it kinda funny that it's considered a female creature but I think NT picked it for how cool it is, not the gender.
