in my opinion:
Nes beats SMS
Snes beats Genesis
N64 ties against Saturn
Gamecube ties against dreamcast.
Dreamcast beats Wii(considering wii is on the same graphic level pretty much)(Excluding VC)

NES > SMS (though I've only ever played a few SMS games on this site)
SNES > Genesis
N64 > PS1 (Never played saturn)
PS2 > GCN > Xbox (Never played dreamcast)
Wii > PS3 > Xbox 360

Sega isn't even in the same league with Nintendo. They made two good systems and two mediocre ones, whereas Nintendo's counterparts are almost always stellar.
In regards to the 16-bit matchup, the Genesis's main advantage over the Super Nintendo is their sports games. Since I'm not much of a fan of antiquated sports games, the SNES wins easily.(Not to mention that the SNES is my favorite console ever.)

Peronally I like the genesis better than the SNES, and the dreamcast better than the gamecube....other than that I like the nintendo better. One of the main reasons is Sega put on a blockbuster tournament back in the day when I was way younger. Every state had it I think but here in Denver the top players from all the blockbusters actually got to play Sonic, and Judge Dredd in tournament scoring at Mile High Stadium on the score board which I took 3rd in. Got 6 years of free game rentals(2 a month). Way back when the virtual boy console was new to the scene.

Nintendo4ever.Lol@sonic on a nintendo system.

video game wise, Playing different versiosn of the same game on both systems.
Examples and games studied
Zombies ate my neighbores and Bram strokers dracula.
Snes has slightly longer games, especially in the case for Dracula.
Genesis has better graphics and sound in my opinion. It also juns runs plain faster.
AS much of a Sega Fan I happen to be in this era of time, both systems have thier times when they utterly shine.
Sonic series for Sega genesis
Super metroid for SNES.
I voted for Sega mainly because it seems they put more time into their games. So they just look and Feel better to me than the SNES games, Super metroid and a few being exceptions.
(but then agian I grew up owning a genesis system so)

It's kinda hard to say but I'd go with Nintendo cuz I pretty much grew up with it.
I mean sure I've played Sega games and prefer Dreamcast over GCN but Nintendo has so many winning games like:
Metroid prime 1-3
The entire Zelda series
and Mario while in my opinion the only really beyond awesome thing Sega has is Sonic.

By specs alone the snes looks like it wins hands down. But as everyone knows it's the games that make the system. I grew up on the snes so i am biased. But I did like some of the genesis games (mainly for the blood and gore) that the snes wouldn't do. Snes FTW.

I was brought up on SMD and SMS so I vote Sega.
I had my Segas for years, everytime I had a NES/SNES it always broke
And by the way!
Game Cube cannot go against the satern!
They are compleatly different genres.
The Game Cube obviously beats the Satern because it came out years and years after the Satern!
The game cube was compeating with PS2 and the Xbox and stuff and compaired to them it is crap, also the Wii is awfull!

Jeez sez you got some nintendo hatred going on.

This is just bizzare. As far as I know nintendo is the one with the reptuation for stable systems. Not saying sega was terrible but I still have my top down NES I got for my birthday. It's never had a problem.
The only nintendo system I had an issue with was GC but that was because of the disc/laser.
The Wii is not awful. It's just not marketed towards you. It's doing very well and it has a very loyal following.

Nes: master system
Snes: genesis
N64: saturn
game cube: dream cast
Game boy vS game gear.
(Sega rocked the handheld circuit until Game boy advance in my opinion.)

I've got to go with Sega and the Genesis, it was what I played the most as a kid, plus the 2d Sonic games were(and still are) some of my favorite games.
But I do absolutely love the Metroid series, Super Met. and Prime I were amazing, and the Pokemon games for the gameboy were fun to play, I had more fun with the Genesis most of the time

I think the Super NES is better than the Sega Genesis/Megadrive.
Super Mario World, Super Mario All Stars & The Donkey Kong Country Series > Sonic The Hedgehog
Zelda: A Link To The Past, Chrono Trigger & Final Fantasy 3 (6 in Japan) > Fantasy Star series
TMNT 4: Turtles In Time > Streets Of Rage
F-Zero & Super Mario Kart > Sega racers
Killer Instinct > Any Genesis tournament fighter
Super Metroid & Star Fox are also heavy hitters for Nintendo
