I’m happy to see the SNES game Plok on the site! That has always been a favorite game of mine; I actually have a copy with my SNES. Have any of you played it? I highly recommend it. It’s not a hugely challenging game, but it’s a total charmer in regards to main character, graphics, gameplay and perhaps most especially the music. It actually has my favorite video game music bar none….you’ll have to listen to all the cuts to see what I mean.

It can be deceptively simple—and almost disappointing if you don’t know what awaits you---because the game starts out with like ten levels that last, seriously, like 1 minute or less. If you thought the whole game was like that, I could see how it would appear pretty retarded; not that those levels are a waste or anything, it’s just that they make more sense in the bigger context of the game. After you rip through these little levels, you get to a section where the levels are large and freeroaming. This freeroaming nature---with the amazingly sublime music and the island setting---make for this almost like zoned out, daydream type gameplay. That sounds stupid to say, but if you play through a couple of these freeroaming levels, you might understand what I mean.

Again, the main selling point is the sheer charm of the game: the main character is hilarious and endearing (though a megalomaniac), the graphics are bright and coloring-bookish, the sound effects are sharp and draw you in, and the music is simply brilliant. The gameplay may not be ‘deep’ but the freeroaming levels do offer an enjoyable romp that require a scavenger hunting type looking everywhere to pass the level experience.

If there is one game I would like to see a sequel to, I think it might be PLOK!!!

If you play it, tell me what you think! J

Woohooo! Just past Plok! There are some pretty difficult levels near the end, but yeee-haw, I past it! :)
