Varenicline (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varenicline) is a new pill that helps you quit smoking. It blocks the part of your brain that can enjoy nicotine. You still have cravings but you never get your fix so you chain smoke until you are sick. If you take the pill for a couple hellish months then you will lose your addiction.
I have a friend that wants to stop smoking so I looked up the pros and cons of the pill.
Side effects include:
Nausea, headache, drowsiness, difficulty sleeping, abnormal dreams, vomiting, flatulence, constipation, changes in behavior, agitation, depression, erratic behavior, suicidal thoughts, and suicide.
We laughed so hard when I read that.
Possible side effect: nausea, drowsiness and suicide.
In the drugs defense, it is unknown whether these side effects are caused by the drug itself or if some of them are caused just by the nicotine withdraw.
The FAA has banned pilots and traffic control from taking the drug due to the security factor of their job and the possible side effects.
