It's not that I don't care about him dieing it's just that I have no attachment to him. I never heard his name until he died. I'll admit he made a memorable theme song(60s batman) but is that really something that makes him newsworthy? I read he's more famous behind the scenes with stuff like producing or composing, can't remember.

Actually I'm not a big fan of the campy batman from the 60s. It gave the serious Batman a bad reputation. He's just now being accepted as the dark character he's always been in the comics.

1. If it wasn't for that show, Batman would be unpopular and unknown, there would be no movies to be serious

2. Just think about it, Batman is serious, but does he really need to be 100% serious, he's a guy running around in a bat suit! As long as it's not like the George Clooney Batman movie (Know the name, but it's a bad enough movie that i would be banned from saying it) I'm fine with a little campiness here and there.

3. The original Batman comics were dark, but they were more like the show than you would think. Especially when Robin was added (Complain if you will, but without Robin there would be no Joker or Catwoman, who were added in that same issue!)

1. If we didn't have the 60s Batman then people would be more likely to take Batman seriously. Like I said it's taken this long for the mainstream media to take notice. Sure the Micheal Keaton movies were well liked but they were seen as "kids stuff" to most movie goers. With the darker more serious tone of the new movies most people realize it's not the same campy, joke it used to be.

2. Sure a little humor is good for a movie but it doesn't have to be in there. I'm personally sick of how movies feel the need for comic relief. Even very serious movies add little scenes to lighten the mood. What's wrong with being serious?

3. I will complain, Robin is a terrible character. I'm so glad they left him out of the newest movies.

1. In movies, he is bad, in the comics, he wasn't as bad.

2. Just look at Batman's main villains

The Joker (A clown)

The Penguin (Someone both fat and short in a tuxedo using umbrellas as weapons)

The Riddler (A guy in leprechaun clothes that tells obvious riddles so much that it needs to be in his name)

Mr. Freeze (Not as campy as some other villains if not in the movies, but still pretty campy)

Catwoman (A pun on the term cat burgular)

Mad Hatter (Based off an Alice in Wonderland Character)

Poison Ivy (A tree)

Two-Face (Not Campy, but i'm gonna be fair and include him)

And if there was no sixties show, nobody would know about Batman. The 60's show was a great success that brought Batman into the mainstream.

Batman's good serious or campy with me, granted he's not as campy as other heroes, and the show was occasionally over the top, but it was entertaining.

Also, the reason why Batman became so serious is because of (I'll say the name this time) BATMAN AND ROBIN (movie) that movie was campy, but even more over the top than the show. So you could thank that movie for making him so serious.

How did Robin effect that? I don't think I read the early Batman comics, I pretty much hate DC comics as a whole. Batman is the only cool character I can think of from them.

I do understand your point though. The 60s Batman brought it to the mainstream and made these movies more likely. But my point is, some idiot TV guys decided they wanted a more light hearted show and it hurt Batmans(and comic characters in general) reputation.

Btw, it's getting a little geeky in here. We might've gone too far already. :-[ ;)

Joker and Catwoman were added to lighten up the series, so Batman could stray from fighting other villains. Since it is a comic book and comics do aim for a children's audience, Robin was added as a more relatable character.

As for Robin:

Now that I'm older, i find Robin annoying, but when i saw him on the animated series or something as a younger kid he was pretty cool.

I think the problem I have with Batman is because of DC comics. They just have to make everything so silly and lighthearted. Marvel should buy the rights and make it that much better.

About Robin, even as a kid I hated him. He was the goofy moron who made Batman look bad. That's just my opinion though.
