View Full Version : Myers Brigg Personality Type Test

MBTI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myers-Briggs_Type_Indicator) is a psychology test that attempts to divide everyone into 1 of 16 personality types and describe their strengths weaknesses and core personality traits.

I have taken the test several times over the past decade. IMO, it can be very accurate for SOME people (including myself) but most people fall somewhere in between 2 or more types and therefore it sometimes isn't very insightful.

Link to test with badge. Registration required. (http://retrouprising.mypersonality.info/)

Link to same test - withOUT registration or badge. (http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes1.htm)

Link to quick 4 question version of test. (http://www.usefulcharts.com/psychology/short-myers-briggs-test.html)

After taking the test vote in the poll above.

Introverts make up 25% of the general population. Wouldn't be too hard to predict they make up a large portion of forums. We are also all Ps. I wouldn't have guessed that. Ps and Js are both even in general population 50/50. S/N are also 50/50 and 75% of men are Ts and 75% of women are Fs.

It doesn't feel REALLY accurate to me, but it does get some of the main points, and I'm sure that's all it's designed to do, I mean yes, I do have Musical Intelligence, but I feel I might have gotten higher on my Intrapersonal Intelligence, but over-all I like this test, I've been trying different answer's that still fit me, but exept for music the result's fluxuate (a bit more than expected)

Edit, if you look on the page that give a discription of all the personality sub-ttype's after the main page of choosing (SJ, SP, NT, NF Types) they have people in history that had the same type, and fictional character's with that personality (lmao, Weird Al is an NT)

The multiple Intelligence test is not part of the Myers-Brigg Personality Type test. They are two different things.

This test is changing the names around. INTPs are supposed to be called "The Architect" not "The Engineer".

That's about right where I thought I was going to be. I really do my best to impose as much self-control as possible and I pride myself on having enough willpower to not require medication except for extreme occasions.

I believe there are four types of bi-polar. I'm what is referred to as a "rapid cycler". (I know, I wish there was a big, fancy word for it.) It basically means I go through extreme highs and lows rapidly (2-3 changes a day) and usually for no apparent reason. There's no middle ground for me that is not either caused by a very large amount of self-control or medication.

I had to take this test for work about 18 months ago, was the beginning of a leadership development thing. I came out as INTP. I found Myers-Briggs to be really accurate.

Another interesting one is called Facet Five. I have my results somewhere but can't think of them off the top of my head. This was quite accurate too but measured things in a different way.

Above is mine for the long test and for the four question one I got

ENFJ Personality Type Profile
ENFJs seek continuity through harmonious relationships and collective values. They excel at picking up on the tone of a situation and acting accordingly, adding warmth to a cool setting or turning sour into sweet. They naturally seek to know what people do well, what they enjoy, and where and how they work. They seem to have an infinite number of acquaintances from all walks of life and are always on the lookout for people in need and those who can help out. ENFJs weave and strengthen the collective fabric of social conventions and interactions. Inclusiveness is important and they are particularly sensitive to those who are excluded.
ENFJs focus on others, feeling a glow when those around them are happy, and troubled when something is amiss. They are natural cheerleaders, often expressing support, gratitude, and encouragement, and heaping praise onto those they appreciate. They take note of what is being done and what needs doing, offering their assistance wherever necessary.
ENFJs enjoy organizing group activities and tend to take their commitments seriously. In general, they are reliable and do not like to disappoint others. As team players and project leaders, they have a gift for rallying their players, focusing on what is being done right and each member's strengths. They are loyal and they expect loyalty. They carry conversations well, finding common ground with their speaker. They tend to find the correct and gracious way to respond in any given situation, no matter how tense or uncomfortable it is.

I added a poll and stuck this thread. Vote above.

I re-read my type today - The INTP in Life, Work, and Love - A Personality Type Profile (http://www.personalitydesk.com/intp)

And this

The INTP is typically non-traditional, and more likely to reason out their own unconventional way of doing things than to follow the crowd. INTPs are merciless about analyzing ideas and beliefs, and hold little sacred. They are often baffled by other people who remain loyal to beliefs that don't make logical sense.got me to thinking.

That quote is very true for me. If someone holds on to a traditional belief that is obviously illogical, I get a sense of superiority. In my head, they are wrong, I am right. I can not understand why someone would hold onto a belief that can not be true simply because their ancestors once believed it.

This comes into conflict with one of my other strongly held beliefs. I don't think anyone should bend their base personality. You should always be true to yourself.

If A=B and
A = expecting everyone to abandon traditional non-rational beliefs
B = expecting me to be the gregarious warm and talkative host at a party of strangers
Then there is a problem because I believe B is unhealthy and nearly impossible but I think A is healthy and possible. If they are equal then one of my core beliefs is wrong.

I glanced through every one's types looking for someone that strongly held to traditional beliefs so I could get their perspective and try to understand how someone can be as pro-conventional as I am anti-conventional.

An ESFJ or ESTJ would be best to answer this question but we don't seem to have any. Billy Hoyle was the only one - ESTJ - and he was banned  Seems we may chase them off. That and I think forums in general are mostly introverts to begin with. In real life ESFJ and ESTJ are very common.

New topic. Thought these were funnily accurate.

@Tails

ISTJs want to understand how they can participate in established organizations and systems. They are concerned with upholding the social order and making sure that standards are met.
@Dudebro
ISFPs will react strongly if they feel their values are being violated. They especially hate being steamrolled, and want an open, supportive exchange of ideas.

ZedIsDead
08-17-2012, 01:03 PM
I share the same personality type as Tails? Never would have guessed.

This is definitely me:
ISTJs communicate in a direct and straightforward way. They are specific and oriented to details, and often communicate primarily to move a task along. The ISTJ typically has a great memory for detail and has a vast storehouse of practical, factual information. Most ISTJs don’t talk for the sake of talking, but will share their knowledge when they see a practical need for it. ISTJs are often no-nonsense and action-oriented in their communication; they tell what they know and what needs to be done.

creative, smart, idealist, loner, attracted to sad things, disorganized, avoidant, can be overwhelmed by unpleasant feelingsSo I wanted to see where I fell on our list of introvertedness scale. Kong takes first place with a staggering 100% introverted (how do you even communicate with the world?). Here's how everyone else matches up.

1. Kong 100%

9. Joz 63%
10. Oasis 58%

3. Sabby 68%
4. Tenser, Alohaex, WB 63%
5. Billy Hoyle 58%

This got me to thinking about how this translates to how we play games. I usually pick support/healing roles in games and I think that fits my personality result perfectly.
To understand Healers, we must understand their idealism as almost boundless and selfless, inspiring them to make extraordinary sacrifices for someone or something they believe in. The Healer is the Prince or Princess of fairytale, the King's Champion or Defender of the FaithI view support roles as defenders of the team. They help everyone and usually protect the weak.

The site that gives you the badges renamed them for some reason. I assume because they are trying to sell a service that they didn't create or own. The names in the poll are the official/original names that everyone else uses.

Took the test again. I seem to be inconsistant between thinking and feeling, so I'm not voting on the poll.

@Tenser- I'm glad you did that I was gonna ask if you could redo yours to show the other side. Not sure why but some of the older badges aren't showing up anymore.

@OmegaShadow- You had to go and get Dreamer after I just said how fascinatingly rare it is. :(

Btw I think if my wife retook it she'd get a slightly lower introvert score. I think 100% is pretty inaccurate in this case. She seems happy with it though.

@100% Introvert

Preferences in Depth: Extroversion/Introversion | PersonalityDesk (http://www.personalitydesk.com/story/preferences-extroversion-introversion)
The Extroversion/Introversion preference is the most misunderstood of the four MBTI preference facets. We tend to use the words “introverted” and “extroverted” in everyday conversation to indicate whether a person is gregarious or shy. However, in Myers Briggs type theory, the Extroversion/Introversion describes a larger concept: how you get your energy and where you focus your attention. Whether a person is gregarious or reserved is just a small part of this facet.

...

Many Introverts (especially Feelers) are quite outgoing in social situations, but find that the process of socializing drains their energy. Nobody would know they are Introverted until they come home from the party and declare their exhaustion!

...

At a party or social gathering, Introverts typically have longer conversations with just one or two people. Extroverts are more likely to work their way around the room, chatting briefly with everyone.

...

You’ll get the biggest clue to this preference when someone talks about stress and their energy level. “I’ve been around people all day, I just need some time alone!” is a typical Introvert response to the stress of too much stimulation. However, if you hear someone exclaim “I’ve been cooped up all day, I just need to get out and see people!” they’re probably an Extrovert.

Shy and Socially Awkward are not a base personality traits. They are the result of lack of social practice and experience. They are like muscles - use it or lose it.

Introversion often leads to a lack of social practice which is why introvert is often thought of as a synonym for shy. But they are not the same thing. And often are not linked at all.

I am a huge introvert but I am not shy at all. I can be socially awkward in large groups.

So remove shyness from your definition of introvert. The easiest definition is: if you are feeling negative (depressed, stressed, tired etc) would you prefer to be alone or at a party.
