What do you all think is the greatest game of all time? I would have to say The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for N64.

The best game of all time for me is Double Dragon 2: The Revenge/TMNT 3.

Each game had its high and low points but
OoT kindof trailed off for me at the end the game was good but everytime I get to ganons castle in the dark world I would just lose intrest right about the time I had to get the golden gloves so the ending was just boring for me to play
and LttP on the other hand hand lots and lots of dungons and good puzzles.
So I would have to go LttP just because I hate going through the water dungon everytime.

You get to play through a summer enviroment & you get to clean up pollution, and all while you kick King Koopa's (Bowser's) butt all over the isle Del Fino. Now that's how I like to spend my summer.
To everyone else: I still find the time to play the NES Marios & their hacks, Super Mario World, & New Super Mario Bros on the DS as well.

That is an impossible thing to answer, but I can make a reasonably short list.
Powerstone 2 (DC)
Super Smash Bros: Brawl (Wii)

Monster Hunter: Freedom 2 (PSP)

Concerning GTA? My life is full of them & they usually involve cops (I had another name for them, but it would be inappropriate for this site).
I was trying to be a model citizen, but every time you even go as far as sneeze, they come after me. And they're always shoot first, ask questions second types. And in the end after a very long chase, I always end up dead or arrested, one way or the other.

GTA games are good but they can only make so many sequels without major changes for so long. But I think the majority of GTA fanboys only care about how many people they can kill and how awesome the graphics look.

I think you misunderstood me TMT. I like GTA, I've played them all except the overhead PC ones. I'm just waiting for them to do something new. You know, something that really blows people away like when the first one came out on PS1 or w/e.
@Galaxy.. This is all a matter of opinion anyways. I did enjoy it but for some reason it just didn't hit me that hard. I'm glad Nintendo is brave enough to make this game, hopefully they keep going with the uncommon game designs.
Like you my Wii is mostly gathering dust atm. I also am just playing 360(btw what games are you playing most?). I'm hopeful about the Wii. Seems like alot of potential but it's slow going right now.
I think I've listed my favorite games about 10 times on RU but one more time can't hurt.
In no particular order...
Fallout 1&2
Final Fantasy Tactics
FF 2&3
Shadowrun
Animal Crossing(new one to my list, didn't realize how much I loved this game)
Billy Hoyle
09-01-2008, 09:43 AM
I understand both of your points, Dudebro. I thought Galaxy was awesome. I played it almost non-stop for a week over last Christmas - I can't do that with many games. I haven't had the chance to play the most recently released GTA, but I went throught a time period with the previous releases where I also played them for extended periods of time.
Like you said, this is all a matter of opinion. An RPG has no chance of breaking my Greatest 1000 Games of All Time list simply because I don't play them. That being said, I fully understand why another person could have a completely different opinion than mine. Like Louie once sang, what a wonderful world.

Tenser get ready for this
question 1)what actually happened to the unsold E.T. games.
answer. They buried them in a landfill in New Mexico, then steamrolled them and finally poured concrete on top. I believe it was like 5 mil of them, is that correct tenser.
question 3) 1 of the 2 real reasons why E.T. didn't sell
answer. Would that be because they rushed the game out in a couple of months and not fully tested it for bugs and the overall gameplay.
You have me stumped tho on question 2.. For the Atari games at that time and it was 82 I have a guess but I am probably sure that it would be wrong.

I love the New Mexico landfill idea. I've also heard this mythical Atari landfill is in Mexico, Tennessee and Colorado. Urban legends are great even if they don't make sense. If you were a company trying to make a profit, why would you pay all that money to destroy a product, even if it wasn't selling well?
E.T. received amazing reviews when it was released. You need to really think of the timeline when E.T. was sold.

While it was true that some Atari products were delivered to a landfill in Alamagoo, NM this was only what could not be stored in Atari's warehouse in El Paso, TX.
You see, after the console market crashed, Atari wisely decided to consolidate all of its merchandise to one warehouse to save money on storage expense. Limiting itself to a storage capacity of a certain number per item, any extra merchandise was to be destroyed. Now, it is true that the majority of what needed to be scrapped was E.T., Pacman, and Atari consoles. Almost a little of everything had to go. The reason for the overstock of E.T. and Pacman themselves was not because they were bad games but because they were the last two major massed produced Atari games.
Answers:
1. Some were destroyed but others are being stored in a warehouse in El Paso.
2. Nearly all of them, including consoles and peripherals.
3. Great Console Crash and the rising popularity of the PC.

For me no game has even come close to Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. They knocked the ball so far out of the park, I don't think anything will ever come close. Second (at least in recent memory) has to be Assassins Creed II which probably has the best written story in any game I have ever played.
As far as Zelda games, I would have to choose OoT and Z II: AoL.
Other favorites would be:
- King's Quest (series)
- Space Quest (series)
- King of Chicago
- Sinbad and the Throne of the Falcon
- Battletoads
- Shinobi
And many more I can't think of right now...

+1. Totally right Tails. How could I forget, Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side? It should definitely be on the list. My beloved EC!

Man, so many games! Never long enough to play them.
Any of:
Wonder Boy series (after the first one)
Fantasy Zone series (my high score on the SMS version of FZ was one of my proudest. It got beat :( )
Zelda series
Wing Commander was great
Shadowrun on Snes was really deep
Mario Kart on SNES!
Civilisation 3 on PC was awesome too.
Track & Field coin-op for the memories of trying to beat the hurdles when I was six in the arcade!
All of these and more! I find it impossible to pick just one hahaha
