Okay pretty much every sonic topic has gone in to Nintendo's demise. What do you guys think about this is there any way Nintendo can save itself? Or are we going to have to rely on Microsoft to destroy Sony.
I'm sorry if you like them but last time I checked they were the lowest rated system and cost twice as much so it just arrogates.

Well, we need another SMB type mario game but with different challenges. I suppose nintendo had it's downfall with putting little effort in THEIR MASCOT!'s newer games.

I'm with Hobbes and Dudebro unless I totally missed something. At last check, I can buy an XBox360 at any time, can not say the same thing about the Nintendo Wii.

I think he's talking about the game quality, that they're not dieing, but selling out, and "dieing" in spirit, not in profit.
but that's just my take on what he's saying, so don't quote me if I'm wrong.

I'm with Sabby here. I bet I can check every store I want every month, and can easily find a PS3 & a X-Box 360, but would never find a Wii even if it's to save my life. I'm not saying Nintendo is dying (they got some great games for the Wii), but do any of you at least think Nintendo has at least one foot in the grave? And that shipping the Wii in such limited numbers at a time isn't helping them at all?

1) Nintendo had a horrible E3 showing.
2) Wii sales and blockbuster game announcments have slumped actually.

Though I know these polls aren't scientific I'll still point to them because of the sheer number of people voting.

Gamfaqs poll asking what system, if any do they're visitors plan on buying this year:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3194
12.46% planned to buy a PS3
8.54% planned to buy a 360
4.47% planned to buy a Wii

While the reason may be because most already own a 360 and/or a Wii.
Gamfaqs poll asking what system its visitors currently own:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3193
31.58% said they owned a PS3
48.47% said they own a 360
57.44% said they own a Wii

But it also could be because of the E3 convention which does have a huge effect on sales.
Gamefaqs poll asking which company had the best E3 showing:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3180
40.69% said Microsoft
17.19% said Sony
13.22% said Nintendo

I take the lack of blockbuster games from the preconceived idea that Nintendo and the Wii were going to fail, no one was developing games for them. Now that Wii sales have been good I should hope that the game developers would follow.

As far as the Wii shortage, it doesn't serve Nintendo to hold back Wii units. Every time someone can't get one, that's a chance they will buy an alternate system. That's lost revenue.

Last time I checked the Wii was selling much better than the PS3 and cost the least. Where did you get costs twice as much? A Wii costs 250, a 360 costs at least 275 for the crappy one without a hard drive, and a PS3 costs a minimum 400.

I suppose nintendo had it's downfall with putting little effort in THEIR MASCOT!'s newer games.

Did you PLAY Mario Galaxy?!?!?! It was freaking incredible!!! What the hell, man?

Sounds like an Xbox fan. At least he wants to destroy sony, I can respect that.

I wish they just had one console and we had more competition for games. I think it would breed less copy cat crap because they'd have to step up and innovate. Or they would just get lazy and make Madden/Tekken ULTRAsuperXTREME version5 ect until we all just gave up and switched to PC.

I for one don't like Microsoft or Sony. There systems suck. I mean they really do. Now Nintendo is a awesome company. There stuff is a bit cheaper than there other competitor's. As for there Mascot that I have been a huge fan of for like 20 years now needs a new game. The New Super Smash Brothers Brawl is a great game. But I would like to see they make a new Smash Brothers with a lot more hidden characters. Mario Galaxy is a very awesome game. Great graphics and great story and game play. The 360 cost's like three or four hundred. There 360 Elite is 580.00. Very expensive. Not worth the money or time. And plus it has that Red Ring on it. Witch makes it unsafe. And Nintendo has beating Sonf for a while now I think. So I guess it will be a three way tie.

I've been to the a Wal-Mart not long ago, & I saw 3 Wiis still on the shelves. Either Nintendo is shipping out more Wiis at a time now, or everyone in my area who loves the Wii already has one. Either way, it's a good thing & as much as I don't like the Wii, nor Nintendo (since the Cube), I might end up getting one anyway. Might as well since the other consols aren't dropping their prices anymore.

And when next-gen comes, how much do you think those systems would be there? $500-$800 for the PS4 & a new X-Box system perhaps? This is rediculus. Well, there's always handhelds.

I simply have not bought a wii yet just because of the cost... I know it has dropped in price but when you think about all the add ons for everything that you need

wii mote
wii strap
wii wheel
wii pad for the new wii arobic thing
wii gun

then the price of the games on top of that

its just not for me and also all the games seem extreamly boring the only ones I really want to play is mario galixy and boom blox.

its just not worth it to buy a whole system for 2 games. and I doubt they will come out with other that are my type of games

Tails

Ps3 and 360 cost way more than a Wii. Besides the high costs of the systems themselves you got 40-60$ for the wired controllers, the 30-40$ for the memory card(Ps3), 60$ for the games(new release) and other over priced stuff. So after the 350-700$ you spend on the system you have to spend another 150$ or so on stuff you need and one game.
The Wii is @250$ and it comes with one game(Wiisports which has several mini games). A second controller is two parts, it totals about 50-60$. A new game is 50$. So with a second controller and one game it's $350, which is probably the lowest you can buy a 360 retail. Forget about ps3 unless it's used.

But I can see not liking the Wii for it's games. I'm really waiting for some good games to come out. MariKart can't carry it. Not much else I wanna own for it so far. If Nintendo doesn't step up with something epic soon it really might start to crumble. But I doubt it, Nintendo isn't stupid. They got plans I'm sure.

Actually XboX announced at E3 they'll be dropping there console prices.

After long declining to comment on "rumors and speculation" about the Xbox 360's $299 price cut--even when such "rumors" came from the Wall Street Journal--Microsoft has finally come clean. Today, the company formally announced that it is dropping the price of the 20GB Xbox 360 Pro to $299 in the US and Canada, down $50 from its prior $349 cost.

Nintendo is Highly successful because unlike most companies, they bend the rules alot (not a little, alot) and create many unique games like Super Mario Galaxies and Warioware (especially). Also they have a very successful market for children because in reality, what was the first Gaming Company you ever heard of? Chances are, it's Nintendo while most other gaming companies concentrate on the older gamers like and Microsoft concentrate on the teenage to adult market which is why Nintendo is here to stay.

My Wii is gathering dust. So is the PS3. Pretty much the only thing I play now days is my 360.

Last time I played my Wii was when me and 3 dudes played Brawl like a week ago.

SSBBrawler you're in the target audience for Nintendo atm. I'm not trying to be offensive, there's nothing wrong with Nintendo targeting younger people. Actually it's exactly what they should be doing. 360 and PS3 are scrambling to get the younger people now. Nintendo isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

PS3s most recent hyped game was Little Big Planet. Sure it's probably awesome but it's obviously made with the E rating in mind.
360 had that big update with all the "improved" features. Now they have Mii looking avatars you can make and it's focusing on party gaming. Gears2 has an option to invite everyone on your friends list to a game, yeah that's not annoying.

Nintendo isn't dieing at all but it's losing a lot of older gamers. Doesn't matter though since they're addicting a new generation of retrogamers with thier parents approval. Deja Vu right?

Kugyince
02-08-2009, 11:47 PM
The Wii is the retrogamer's console of choice. Not only does it have the game's that I want (Zelda, RE4, etc...) but it allows me to enjoy gaming with my 5 year old as well. I think we played Pokemon Battle Royal for nearly three hours straight together. I can't remember the last time I sat and played a game for even two hours.

Nintendo also understands that neither the newer gamers nor us retrogamers care at all about graphics.

Dudebro
02-09-2009, 12:56 AM
You're also part of the target audience Tenser. You're a long time fan with kids. Nintendo needs you guys to get this next generation hooked. That's why I said Deja Vu, Nintendo is good at marketing to younger people and they are able to get the parents on thier side. Difference is Wii is far more popular with parents than thier other systems.
I respect Nintendos choices. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Nintendo isn't stupid.

I have to disagree with you about graphics. Most of us aren't too worried about it but it does help a game if it looks good. You've never been disappointed by a new game because it looked dated?
Graphics shouldn't be a deciding factor but it shouldn't be ignored.

Slime Slayer
02-09-2009, 01:08 AM
well the thing about that is most "hardcore" gamers think good graphics are closest to real life as possible, not true at all. in fact i think the words good graphics should be thrown out the window and replace with "good style" for instance, i find the graphics on castle crashers to be better than any epic fps on xbox 360. because the style is consistent with itself throughout the game, its fun, its different and creats a unique experience. this same logic applies to any system during any era.

Dudebro
02-09-2009, 01:40 AM
I agree with that. My favorite 360 game(shadowrun!) is considered bad graphics by most Live noobs but it's a great game. It doesn't even have a ladder climbing animation, I didn't notice until someone pointed it out.
To me this is the same thing as people who say they don't like animated shows because they're cartoons. It's just a different way of seeing things. Without the limits of real life. I think some people just like to feel superior. Like thier way must be the best way and anyone who thinks differently is a moron. Sounds like Xboxlive for the most part.

Kugyince
02-09-2009, 02:27 AM
You've never been disappointed by a new game because it looked dated?

No, I don't think I've ever been dissappointed because a game had graphics that looked dated. The only time I think graphics have mattered to me is when they glitch or they make it difficult to differentiate between two things. When the graphics take away from the game play, then it can be a problem.

To make a couple of examples:
I didn't like the graphics in Addam's Family (NES) because everything (ledges, items, etc...) is actually a few pixels to the left or right (can't remember) of where the game recognizes them as. This made jumping a pain for me.

In Fallout 3 the graphics are so "realistic" that its hard for me to tell where the enemies are because they blend into the background. Of course this could be intentional or it could be just the video I watched of it. But I feel if I'm suppose to recoginze an enemy (i.e. its not hiding) then I should be able to.

Dudebro
02-09-2009, 04:07 AM
The problem with Fallout is the world is in ruins. There's random debris everywhere and what's not rubble is dirt and rock. That makes it hard to see a person in dark colored clothes(you don't really see bright colors anywhere).
In towns you can clearly see people since it's usually lighted and people arent wearing dark green combat armor.
But really you don't know until you play it. I don't have much trouble seeing stuff outside towns unless it's nighttime.

I don't see why people insist graphics don't really matter. It's just like saying the music doesn't matter. Effort should go into every part of a game.

Kugyince
02-09-2009, 04:21 AM

I highly doubt that Nintendo is in trouble, the Wii out sells the 360 and PS3 combined (and the same goes for the DS)
And has sold some blockbuster games for their consoles, Super Mario Galaxy (the official highest rated game ever), Twilight Princess (considered the 2nd best Zelda game), and Metroid Prime (Highest rated of the series),and Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendos fastest selling game ever, and the best selling fighting game ever).

But I said equally not graphics at the expense of other features. I know it's unrealistic but games should be given enough time to be made well. It seems most games are rushed to meet a deadline and they sacrifice one feature or another. It wasn't as big of an issue in the retro days because of the limitations on graphics.
To sum up, Reto games are almost always better than newer games.

Super Mario Galaxy (the official highest rated game ever)....Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendos fastest selling game ever, and the best selling fighting game ever).

I honestly think people will get fed up with being fleeced every few years. Nintendo will come out of it safe like nothing happened and Microsoft will continue to not care since they can literally throw money away. Sony might be in trouble, hopefully.

You list many good points there. I've played Little Big Planet before, it was horrible. I had no clue what I was supposed to be doing. However, on your statement saying that XBoxes and PS3s are going for the younger generation, I have to disagree, most of the games for those systems are rated MA, or at least a high T rating. What's worse, there's parents who let their kids play them. I was at a game store once, there were two kids who were probably in 3rd grade and 1st, or near there. They were playing some game that was rated MA, and they're parents were in the store. But that's kind of going off topic, isn't it?

I know that most companies want to make money off of little kids, so they make these E rated games, however, that's not where the money comes from from kids in grade school and they learn from it. I know several grade schoolers who have played MA games that featured blood, gore, and all the stuff that they can think of. So money is still made more off of the innappropiate games, and from the way the companies are making games, it's obvious that they're ESRB ratings have gone up. Legend of Zelda went from E to T, Super Smash Bros 64 was E, Melee and Brawl are T. And all these other games that were E, are now becoming E10 or higher. Oh well.

My opinions on how the games are going for all the companies is like this: :'( ??? :'( ??? :o :o >:( >:( :( >:( :o :o ??? :'(
Enough said, right?

Having been playing Nintendo consoles since I was a baby, literally, yeah I would say that Nintendo isn't as great as it used to be. It feels as if the emphasis is more on heading towards unknown territory rather than on the games. Its really unbalanced and there are great titles on the Wii such as "Super Mario Galaxy" and "Super Smash Bros. Brawl". In retrospect, the former was not the best game ever but it is certainly a favorite of mine. I just wish Nintendo would put more focus on making great video games for their original audience rather than two or three mediocre titles for general audiences. I must say that I feel as if the more hardcore gamers are being a little ignored in place of innovation but Nintendo can surely pull through. They just need great games like their golden era of the NES - SNES, games people will still play years from now and look back on with satisfaction. Hey, they survived the Virtual Boy in 1995 right so I'm pretty damn sure they can pull through this one.

What is a "hardcore gamer" anyways?[br]Posted on: February 13, 2009, 02:04:15 AM________________________________________________ _February 12, 2009 - If you would have expected Nintendo to have yet another amazing month in January, you sir would be right. Nintendo's success has been unprecedented in previous generations, and once again the Big N owns not only in hardware sales, but in software as well.

Based on numbers released by the NPD group (which doesn't even cover Wal-Mart, mind you), Nintendo has sold nearly 1.2 million systems in January alone, dispersed evenly between its console Wii and portable DS. As far as the specifics go, Wii clocks in at a whopping 679,200 units, with DS bringing in another 510,800 on top of that. Both systems (on their own) sold better than any competition, with Xbox 360 coming in at 309,000 as the top of the bunch, PS3 trailing next with 203,200, PSP hitting 172,300, and PS2 still pulling off a decent 101,200 total units of hardware.

What does this mean? Wii pushed numbers equivalent to PS3, PSP, and Xbox 360 combined (slightly lower by about 5k), and when you factor in DS's sales as well, the gap widens by almost double.

The usual suspects take the top software spots as well, with Wii Fit leading the pack at 777,000 units, Wii Play still doing 415,000, and Mario Kart Wii bringing in 292,000 as well, clinching the top three spots over Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty: World at War, and Skate 2. As for more Nintendo sales within the top 10, Guitar Hero World Tour (still the highest selling of the versions) scores another 155,000 units sold for Wii, followed by New Super Mario Bros (135,000) and Mario Kart DS (132,000) in spots eight and nine. System bundles are included in that list, but seeing New Super Mario Bros and Mario Kart still in the top 10 is simply insane; talk about evergreen titles.

Most alarming is Wii Fit, which may we remind you, is still selling for $89.99 at retail, bringing in nearly another 800k in January alone (typically one of the slowest software months in the year). What else does this mean for Wii developers and publishers? That's nearly another million players with a balance board in their house. If that doesn't push more support for Nintendo's biggest peripheral, we don't know what will.
