View Full Version : Any Hope for Sonic?

Tails made a topic about the new Sonic game earlyer, and I was just wondering, is there any hope for sonic? In my opinion the only way to bring him back from videogame grazeyard would be to go back to the origional formual with just Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails versus Dr.Robotnik. What I think realy killed him was the addition of all these new charecters like Blaze or Silver. I'd just like to here some other peoples opinions on this.

I saw this and was all ready to start picking apart your post...

then I saw that. >:(
Btw, is grammatics even a word?

About Sonic...
I already said I think the series is overrated. So my opinion will be bias. That being said, I think they should stop making Sonic games for awhile, let it go for a few years. Then release a really good one and put some effort into it. Or they can just make more and more of them, further pissing off the fan base and ruining the series.

The new game looks rad.

I too, think the new sonic game is good. Aren't Sega are trying to make the game more better by bringing back some of the original features it had in the very old good games?

Tails
07-28-2008, 05:01 AM
What original features? He turns into a Werewolf.

Anyways, I put my thoughts here (http://www.retrouprising.com/index.php?topic=5907.0).

I liked the Sonic games. But when they created Sonic Heros, that's it for me. I mean "Come on". The easiest scenario to beat there was with 2 ladies & the overblotted cat. I liked the ladies, but they should not have been playable characters, nor should the cat. I liked Shadow's game, but to make it like Sonic's. Rediculus. And the new characters since, I care nothing about. Spyro the Dragon suffered a tragic death, and so may Sonic the Hedgehog if the new RPG fails. I think Sonic should stay in handhelds only, or Sega will have to look for a new mascot.

V ideoY3K that was easy mode i beat all but hard mode. (shadow, rouge and, that robot).

I beat all and Got A's in most, and to me, all was easy. Though Team Rose Episode I could bet a kindergarten child could beat it.

oh and the hardest story was Team Chaotix, not Team Shadow IMO.

Anyway have you guys played sonic advanced? I personally think that game gives sonic a little hope it's got the old style of game play and has the chao garden.

Tails
07-29-2008, 07:06 PM
Chao's stink, the original games had flickies.

I also think we already established that Sonic Rush/Advance were good.

Timber Wolf
07-29-2008, 09:30 PM
lol, what ever happened to the flickie's anyways? I know they had thier own game, with the cats and little chicks that Flicky had to rescue
but they just stopped showing up in the games...

I hate the Chao Garden. To me, that's what ruined Somic Adventure 2 which is a shame because I really like that game. The Chao should have their own game.
And Shadow's game was surreal in every way. They actually have guns in that game. Well, whatever worked for Ratchet & Clank I guess? :-\

Sonic has gone down hill ever since all of the old games came out. There is no hope for Sonic. The new games are just god awful.

I thought that's part of what made it a decent game. Flickies were pathetic, you couldn't do anything with them except have them follow you to a ring to unlock the next section of the level. The game Flickies was repetitive, and it wasn't much fun at all. Chao were actually interactive.

There's some new Sonic Unleashed stuff out. Not sure if anyone's already seen it. But the gameplay looks really fast. Like I said earlier, it's still reminding me an awful lot about Rush. There's also some actual gameplay of the werehog. Doesn't look very exciting, just a bunch of never ending enemies you have to beat up.

My thoughts: The Sonic section itself is awesome, werehog...not so much.

Sonic may be the king of games but aside from this site and the PC version of the original, I have yet to see a good Sonic game since before the Sega Genesis became obsolete (that is not to say I do not play my Gene, I do, simply because I love the games). I think that they should just put Sonic, Mario and all the other oldies to rest and concentrate on bringing out newer, better games instead of dividing their time between reviving old games and making new ones. It ends up that both are not that great. Granted, some of the games that have come out in recent years have been good but its more misses than hits in my opinion.

Metricus
07-31-2008, 07:58 AM
Mario is doesn't need reviving because Nintendo is stupid enough to kill Mario the way Sega killed Sonic. As for Megaman I still prefer him over Sonic, but he is dieing fortunantly Capcom has tons of other great game going for them right now so they're not realy in that much trouble.

If you haven't noticed, Nintendo's not even targetting us teenagers as their target audience anymore. They're games are now more likely to be adult-oriented, such as Wii Fit, Wii Sports Resort. It's not like this is a secret. I mean, anyone who has a Wii has Wii Sports. Remember the fitness tests and the messages you got on your inbox once you completed them?

It said:
Because these tests are designed for adults, children may not receive accurate test results.

Check out Nintendo's E3 stand. A complete phail. Animal Crossing? Wii MotionPlus? Wii-Speak? Sounds like a training camp for dogs if you ask me. Nintendo's turning into an arrogant son of _____ with their "adult-oriented" crap. I'm glad I got my PS3 to back me up.

Dudebro
07-31-2008, 11:48 AM
Animal Crossing?
What's wrong with animal crossing? ??? It's not one of the adult oriented games if that's what you mean. I'd say it's for everyone but it leans towards younger people.

And the reason why Nintendo isn't targeting teens is because a whole generation of gamers are now grown up and have alot more money than the teens(for the most part). It only makes sense to sell to an audience that already loves your company name from when they were kids and has money to spend.
We all see how this strategy is working too. Wii/WiiFit/MarioKartWii are still mostly SOLD OUT....yeah, sold out. How long has the Wii been out now? It's still in high demand. I never hear about PS3/360 being sold out. Well, unless people are saying stuff like "sony sold out" ect :P
At least Nintendo is trying to be creative with it's games rather than ps3/360s FPS clones and the few exclusive titles they got left. The 360 is a microsoft product so it won't have an issue with funding. Sony really needs to push those blu ray playersPs3s to stay alive.

@Sonic- They should probably just make a really good version on Wii and stay true to the first few games. Either that or
they should just put Sonic, Mario and all the other oldies to rest and concentrate on bringing out newer, better games instead of dividing their time between reviving old games and making new ones.
It might be time for this. I personally could care less when I hear about a mario or sonic game nowdays.

No everyone of you is going to agree with me on this, and this post may be in agreement to an earlier post.
Sonic had pretty much outlived his usefulness when video games first got put in 3D. Sega had him on life support doing what they can to keep him alive, but life support only works for so long before eventually, you end up having to pull THE cord. I think Sega needs to move on.
I think Virtua Fighter maybe the only good francise Sega has left, and that francise bores me to no end when I play it.

What's wrong with animal crossing? It's not one of the adult oriented games if that's what you mean. I'd say it's for everyone but it leans towards younger people.

I never said anything was wrong with it, it's just, if it were me, and I was only going to introduce one, ONE, bloody game, I'm not sure it would be Animal Crossing. I don't know why, the game is an awesome game and a great concept, but I would not in hell make it Animal Crossing.

And the reason why Nintendo isn't targeting teens is because a whole generation of gamers are now grown up and have alot more money than the teens(for the most part). It only makes sense to sell to an audience that already loves your company name from when they were kids and has money to spend.

Um, so what are newer, younger fans of Nintendo left to fend for? A couple of muscle toning programs, and a balance-sensitive plank? (Wii Fit). Parents buy their kids games, not buy games for themselves. In fact, I have never seen parents of two or three play a single game in any hour of the day. There might be some out there, but I have not seen them, so don't maul me for not taking that into consideration. I love Mario, it's a child-oriented game, I'm 15, but I will step out anytime and say that I love Mario games. Since I was small with my little SNES and Super Mario World, I have loved Mario games. Things like Wii Fit and Wii Sports aren't anything like Nintendo has ever done before. I can't honestly say that I liked these things. On the contrary, my mom loves them, which clarifies what you're saying. But again, she's not buying games for herself, she's buying them for me. Or, at least putting in like 5 bucks and leaving me to pay the rest. Tell me how old you are, and be honest.

We all see how this strategy is working too. Wii/WiiFit/MarioKartWii are still mostly SOLD OUT....yeah, sold out. How long has the Wii been out now? It's still in high demand.

Honestly, only about six Wiis are transported to their stores every week. Wii is most likely not sold out because people like it, but because there are too little being made of them. MarioKart Wii is not sold out, Wii Fit is not sold out. I walked up to the front counter the second day Both of these games came out and found plenty in stock.

I never hear about PS3/360 being sold out. Well, unless people are saying stuff like "sony sold out" ect

You obviously weren't around at Christmas time.

At least Nintendo is trying to be creative with it's games rather than ps3/360s FPS clones and the few exclusive titles they got left.

Creative? Animal Crossing has already been made. A new Mario Baseball game is coming out. MarioKart Wii was about the same as it's 64 with obviously better graphics. Wii Sports Resort is the same thing as Wii Sports, with a few new games added and a little block that "mimics your slightest movements" attached to your remote. About the only thing creative about Nintendo right now is their Controls and their "exercise programs."

That said, Nintendo doesn't need creativity, they need to stick with what works, and target the audience that really matters. Like I said above, what are younger Nintendo fans left to play? Bad Company on PS3? Halo 3 on xBox 360? Yeah...

Dudebro
07-31-2008, 12:59 PM
Tell me how old you are, and be honest.

You could've checked my profile, I'm 29. If you're trying to say my age matters here you're wrong. I do own a Wii but I only have Brawl/Mario Kart/Sports and some D/L games. I also own a 360 and play it alot more than the Wii. I'm just trying to point out that Nintendo is trying to draw in the older market to make money and it's working. It makes perfect sense to me and it proves what you're saying. Nintendo is trying to get older gamers because PS3 and 360 have the younger players already. Although the youngest players are mostly Nintendo so that's two demographics it's covering. And those two cross over, parents buy some games for Wii for themselves and some for the kids. Great strategy.

I never said anything was wrong with it, it's just, if it were me, and I was only going to introduce one, ONE, bloody game, I'm not sure it would be Animal Crossing. I don't know why, the game is an awesome game and a great concept, but I would not in hell make it Animal Crossing.
Well that's your opinion. Animal Crossing has a huge cult following, why not make another game when you have a huge dedicated fan base? It's better than making some crappy adventure game or another year of Madden.

This was true at first. They did severly limit sales to build anticipation but it's not that bad anymore. I'm not just messing around when I say alot of people tell me they want a Wii. Most of these people are just sick of the same old same old console ideas. Shooter - Adventure -Fighting rinse repeat ect ect. Nintendo isn't stupid, they know if they make something new and interesting it will draw customers. Bottomline is people like the Wii alot, it's not just limited quantity.

You obviously weren't around at Christmas time.
Yes I was, all three systems were selling like crazy. But that has more to do with people being morons and thinking they have to spend hundreds of dollars every Xmas than people loving the ps3/360/wii.

I agree with you though. Nintendo needs to hurry up and release some games that the average(not an insult) gamer will like. Like I said I play 360 more than Wii.

As I said on another post about sonic, SEGA needs one thing (one thing) straight for sonic to be back, they need to stop having the gaming go a million miles an hour and start making the fun any way how instead of being annoying and with poor controls/storylines and I believe SEGA should go back to the Sonic Adventure 2 set up because it had alot better game play and having the 3 modes (Runing, Machines, Treasure Hunting) really was fun to switch around with and could save Sonic

TNTisKING
09-01-2008, 05:56 PM
...what? You really should use punctuation.
If you were saying that you think the games go to fast, that is what Sonic is supposed to be about. That is one of the great things about the Genesis games, being able to speed through the levels. I also have to disagree with you about SA2. The parts of the game with sonic weren't bad, but I absolutely hated the machine and treasure hunting parts. I do not want to have to spend 15 minutes running around in circles looking for buried treasure when I am playing a Sonic game.

Timber Wolf
09-01-2008, 06:29 PM
I agree with TNT, but a thought just occured to me, may-be Sega sould let Sonic die, the games are crap, most of the original Sonic Team doesn't work for Sega anymore, so there goes the people who really knew what they were doing, they're trying to take Sonic in directions he shouldn't go, Nintendo has been smart in the fact that they keep Mario doing what he knows how to do, there are inovations, but its not trying to change Mario radically. It may just be time to let the series die, and look at the good games from the past and look for something new for the future

...what? You really should use punctuation.
TNT is right. Punctuation doesn't have to be perfect but making it easier to read will make a better impression on people. Also if you make a wall of text some people just won't read it.
This is towards Timberwolf and samejamesbond. No offense intended guys just trying to help.

Sorry about the poor grammar before, I'm not that good at punctuation or spelling. You can correct me as you will I don't mind at all, honest :).

And before when I said sonic games going a million miles an hour, I meant that SEGA is concentrating on that aspect of game play and the games should be set up like Sonic Adventure 1/2. Ex: The camera in the Secret Rings faces one direction and if you missed something, you walk blindly to get them.

Also I agree with Timber Wolf, SEGA may just have to find another Mascot because the series isn't really going in the correct direction.

Timberwolf, using commas is ok as long as you do it right. A sentence is a complete thought.

I agree with TNT, but a thought just occured to me. Maybe Sega should let Sonic die. The games are crap, most of the original Sonic Team doesn't work for Sega anymore so there goes the people who really knew what they were doing.
