My bad about the drug stuff, I wasn' sure if it was crossing the line since it never really came up here before that I've seen. I got no problem if you guys don't want us to joke around about that stuff, I just figured it's so common now that it wouldn't be too far.

I was wondering, do the 'hidden' forums matter when it comes to the PG-13 part? Like the team forums, so someone googleing it wouldn't see what we type. Shouldn't matter if we cross the line alittle right?

The hidden forums are restricted to only the user names that Kong allows access to, so those sometimes cross the line at times.

I have been given authorization from Kong to decide if something is inappropriate or not. If you have issue with the decision that has been made, bring it up to me. According to the Motion Picture Association of America (click this (http://www.mpaa.org/FlmRat_Ratings.asp)) it says that drug use gets an automatic PG-13 rating. I don't really care if you've been de-sensitized to it, it doesn't need to be talked about here.

I asked Kong about words like ass not too long ago. It's even in my forum profile information to the left of all of my posts.

The consensus was as long as we:

1) Stay away from Carlin's seven words.
2) Do not use them to describe another member.
3) Do not use them in an overly graphic or sexual manner.


It's also my opinion that light-hearted drug use is PG-13 as it is listed on the site Sabby linked to. Since we're aiming for "nothing over PG-13" I personally do not have a problem with it. I would also point out songs that at one time had regular radio play like "'Cause I Got High" and "Smoke Two Joints".

Our current forum rules are intentionally vague. Expecting members to use common sense and their best judgement. Which also allows the mods to rule within the context of the offense. But each poster and moderator will undoubtedly have a different view of what is acceptable and what is offensive. It's a difficult mist to navigate. Would you, the members, prefer more hard and fast rules?

One last thing. Normally I wouldn't air my opinions about these matters publicly. I'd try to consult privately with Kong and the other Mods in the Mod forums. And this I've attempted to do. But I would really appreciate the members opinions on this as well.

I'd say this site is good about enforcement when things cross the line. Drugs is a grey area in this because like others have pointed out it's such a common subject in our culture. Of course we wouldn't wanna be seen as promoting any illegal drugs on the site, that wouldn't fly well with parents. Most parents wouldn't be mad about light hearted drug jokes I bet, but Birds pic was alittle out of control(no offense I still thought it was funny as hell, also I forget if it was even you who posted it :-[)

I thought Kong said somewhere that the point of the PG-13 rule was to stay off of those "unsafe websites" lists, w/e they call those tools for parents to censor their kids. I think anything that might lower the sites traffic should be against the rules. I think we can control ourselves and save it for the private/hidden forums. Kong can always just make me a mod and I'll help edit the forum for content! ;)

But yeah, we could use some clear rules that cover most everything, but that's hard to do. New things always come up or new people push the point ect. It's Kongs site so gets to decide anyways, if he wants our input I'm sure we'd all love to help.

I will answer a few questions of these questions

1. Google can not see the hidden areas.
2. The rules in the hidden areas are slightly less strict.
3. The teams can decide on the rules they want for their team forum but you should not alienate any current or future team mates.
4. Very light drug talk, cracks/emulator/warez, sexual (no stronger insinuations than a bikini) and bad language (nothing stronger than "ass" and "damn") are OK. But I can see this getting out of hand and if it does then the rules will become much more strict. This is not the place for in depth discussion about any of these topics. If you need talk about them then check google for places that are a better fit for you.

In other words just because you can get away with it does not mean you should. There are always better ways of expressing yourself.

Abbreviations such as WTF, ****, f*ck etc are not acceptable. If the full word is against the rules then so is all forms of the words. I personally find it very insulting to assume that adding a * or half a beep to a word will trick someone into thinking "sh*t" might mean "shot".

5. Anything hateful, example racism, is probably an automatic ban.
6. Pointless and/or immature posts will eventually lead to a ban.
7. Shorthand such as "u no wat i mean" are not accepted. If you do not improve after a warning then you will be banned. IMO this is way worse than the cussing and your parents should be way more concerned about this rule than any of the others.
8. Tenser is correct the rules are vague and we are relying on you to use common sense. Immature people do things just because they can. Immature people are annoying. Annoying people are eventually banned.

I would like to hear the answer to Tenser's question. Do you want explicit rules? Example "You can do this" "You can not do that". DO you want less or more strict rules? If you do not want to answer publicly you can PM me. I will start an official poll and thread for this topic next week.

The rule is keep it PG-13. When I made that rule I did not know exactly what that meant. As time goes by I am realizing that no one really knows what that means.

Fart and turd were not on Carlin's original list. He added them to an updated version of the skit several years later. Piss was on the original. And the point of the skit was words that under no circumstances could be said on TV. Example ass is another name for jackass and Dick is a nickname for Richard or a detective and so could be said given the proper context. So even though both might be worse than fart and piss they were not added.

1. I for one just use the curses since i am used to them (i.e. when a game i get close to the score i do go 'damn damn damn') but the main ones i have stated that i use frequently.


For the rules i personally think its fine as you said if it gets out of hand raise it up but i think curses should be allowed if they are not directed twords people, but the ones on carlins list are not period. (is crap's bad word on his list? i forget.)
