View Full Version : Music Suggestions

I relize that a lot of people like different types of music, but as essential as I think music is, I thought we could suggest music with each other,
I want this to stay friendly,
no arguements about whos or whats better,
NO fights, it can be any type of music,
just put the title the genre and the artist, thats all that required
you can put more on the song and artist if you choose
please do specify if there is any "strong language or themes" doesnt have to be as scrutinizing as the MPAA or ESRB or anything, just in case someones offended by the theme or lyrics in the song, a warning
well I'll start out i guess, i think this is an agreeable piece its
Nothing Else Matters - Apocalytica Genre:Classical?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=rbTozgoj9OQ&feature=related
It's an Instrumental cover of a Metallica song using cellos, The original song is off of Metallica(The Black Album), if i remember, It was written by Hetfield, Ulrich, and Hammett, acording to Hetfield its about his girlfriend(back then, not anymore lol), but looking back he says he doesnt really remember why they wrote it

I will take this opportunity to recommend some of my favorite non-rap music acts. They are as follows.
The Presidents of the United States of America
The Presidents are a wonderful 3 piece band from Seattle. Their debut album (self titled) is one of my favorite albums of all time, and was released in 1995 I believe.
http://www.mtv.com/shared/media/news/images/p/Presidents_Of_The_United_States_Of_America/sq_presidents_in_greenhouse.jpg
While currently what most would consider "indie", The Presidents had some mainstream success in the mid-nineties with the songs "Peaches" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=rGlfayMNSnE) and "Lump" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=_sj_U6vObUA) as well as a cover of "Video Killed The Radio Star" for the Adam Sandler film "The Wedding Singer" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=DHqCNbUtnhI) and also a cover of the song "Cleveland Rocks" that was the theme song for the Drew Carey Show (http://youtube.com/watch?v=6vl5FWUMnNM).
Their music is wonderful musically, and also alot of it is worth a good laugh. Definitely check 'em out.
Band number 2...
Spoon
http://www.coedmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/17/spoon-ga-03-screen.jpg
Spoon is an "indie" rock band from Austin. They have released 6 full length albums. I have only ever listened to one, but it is wonderful. Stand out tracks include "The Underdog" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=LenPKPqvdJA), "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=bRLwVX2p0-Q&feature=related), and "Don't Make Me a Target" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=EZXd37AOT3Q).
Alright. I will probably add some more when it isn't 4 AM.

PUSA is awesome Tommy. I know they're track "Kitty" got a lot of airtime over here in NY as well.
Kitty on my foot and I want to touch it! ;D
Spoon is sick as well. I like how they leave studio background noise and static in their tracks instead of editing it out.

TimberWolf Rep up for showing me Apocalytica. I never heard of them and I just looked up every song they have on Youtube. Awesome.
I know you want us to list the song names and such but I refuse! I want people to be surprised. Not only that, the temptation will force most people to check out the links. ;)

I love all kinds of music. It's hard to pick just one. Here are a few artist's and bands I love.
Simple Plan: I'm Just A Kid
A great song. This song is about how your life sucks being alone.
Bloodbath Eaten.
A Awesome Death Metal Band. And that is one of there best song's. I forget what album it is on.
Dragon Force: Through Fire And Flames.
You can hear this song on Guitar Hero 3. And awesome Power And Speed Metal Group
Yes I like a little rap. Not into rap any more. But I still like a little.
2Pac Thugz Mansion. A Very good song.
Bone Thugs N Harmony Featuring Akon I Try
This song is awesome. It's a song telling people to keep trying. No matter how hard things are
Rascal Flatts: What Hurts The Most
This song is great. It's about once having a relationship with either a girlfriend or a parent or something. And you where so close to them but things did not work out. But you still think about them. A real touching song.
Tanaka Rie Field's Of Hope
You can hear this emotional song on Gundam Seed. It's a very good song.
So as you can see I like all kinds of music.
i cant believe i forgot to suggest
MICHAEL JACKSON!!!!!!

Next, is it just me or has anyone else noticed the new fad of indie musicians covering modern pop songs? Usually dropping the tempo down alarmingly which causes them to have a bit of a haunted feel. A few examples that I like:
Yael Naim covering Spears' "Toxic":
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ETh0Kfxk2BY
Mechanical Bride covering Rhianna's "Umbrella":
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YS1AacqCt-o
Obviously neither of these are official artist videos but the sound quality was fair enough.
I know people have been doing this for years but it seems far more prevalent recently. Any thoughts?

Okay finally a little rant of mine. I hate that its become so damn fashionable to like bands that no one's ever heard of. This normally wouldn't be a bad thing but its gotten to the point where talent no longer is a factor in it. The more obscure and quirky the band and the fewer people that know of them the better. Now when I go on a music sharing website I have to wade through a slew of garbage that I'd rather have never heard, hoping to find a diamond in the rough. I'm not saying people shouldn't like indie, I just wish more people would like it because they like the actual music and not because they want their high school buddies to think they're cool when they show them their iPod collection.
Its ridiculous to stop liking someone's music because they made an appearance on The Late Show or because they finally got some play on the radio. Friggen' Indie-Prep-Brats need to grow up and not care what others think about their own tastes in music. Maybe if they stopped paying attention to what their friends think and started paying attention to what they're listening to they'd have an iPod with a couple hundred songs they actually like to listen to instead of one with 5,000 songs, some they can't stand more than a few seconds of but are cool because of how obscure they are.

My thoughts exactly. I remember when I was at Bonnaroo last year, I was walking around and over-heard some band that I had never heard of, and they sounded like they were just banging on a keyboard. And there were tons of people watching them, and I had to ask myself why...

Hey Neutral Blut Aus Nord means Blood from (the) North right?
Yeah, but:
Blut Aus Nord - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The name "Blut aus Nord" translates from German as "Blood from the North", though the non-standard grammar suggests nautical jargon (a more standard phrasing would be "Blut aus (dem) Norden" or "Blut von Nord(en)," though it's also worth noting that compass directions are seldom used in spoken German to begin with).

Well, I am home now and on my computer. I couldn't seem to find the cd of the songs but i do have it on my computer. My problem is that they are in .wav format and therefore too large to post. Anyone know of a free converter or any other way?

Gamma Ray - Good power metal band. Their best stuff was between 1993 (Insanity and Genius) and 2001 (No World Order), IMHO. Heading for Tommorow and Sigh No More were decent albums and since Majestic, they became pretty generic.
Soundgarden - Good Hard Rock band.
As far as non-mainstream music goes (Game music, Demoscene, etc.), I would say anything by Howard Drossin and Yuzo Koshiro. Koshiro is a big name in game music and Drossin did some great music for games like Comix Zone and Sonic Spinball, especially considering his use of the "mediocre" GEMS sound engine.

Man, recently I've really been getting into middle eastern type music. Hebrew especially.

I am supprised I havent brought this up before. There is a really cool music site (Music Genome Project) which brings tons of music together for you can create your own radio stations. Basically you put an artist or band name in, and then they play something by that band. Next they play some music with similar beats, rythem, etc...by a different band. You have the option to give it a thumbs up(which makes the site play more music like it)or a thumbs down(which means they will never play it again). You can create a bunch of different radio stations for yourself. After a couple minutes of picking what you want you have a personalized radio station. I have found so many other artists I have never heard of that I really enjoy. I use it all day long at work. NO commercials.
