Direct8input failed?

Get a message where this is the gist of it, and my controller won't work all of a sudden. Worked perfectly last time I tried it, I am using a regular NES controller with USB adapter.

Any help?

Which system?
Is steam running? Close it.

Download and install this
Download DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) from Official Microsoft Download Center (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109)

After you run that file it asks you to extract it to somewhere (temp folder by default). Pick a folder you can easily find.

Next Go to the folder you extract it to and run DXSETUP.exe and wait for it to complete the installation. You can delete the temp files.

Then try the game again.

Well, that fixed it, for a game or 2, now I'm getting a message about "One or more joystick device IDs were not recognized. Do you want to remap the affected keys to the new devices?"

No matter if I select yes, or no, the game window disappears, I can hear the sound from the game, but cannot play it.
