It's an RPG first, Minecraft second.

It seems more like MC with an RPG mod and a texture pack. Don't get me wrong though I think this looks like an awesome MC "clone". I just hope it can do something to give it lots of replay and not feel like I'm just playing MC. I love playing MC but if I wanna do that I can just go play it, you know?

And yeah Tenser is right that dude was pretty annoying.

Right now, I really agree with this:

It seems more like MC with an RPG mod and a texture pack. Don't get me wrong though I think this looks like an awesome MC "clone". I just hope it can do something to give it lots of replay and not feel like I'm just playing MC. I love playing MC but if I wanna do that I can just go play it, you know?

And the issue is, Minecraft has one of the largest modding communities (if not the largest) in any game. I'd like to play the game but for me to be interested in it, it would have to do something amazing that I can't find in the thousand plus mods I can find in Minecraft.

Like it or not, the Dragon Quest name doesn't carry much weight in North America. Certainly not even close to Minecraft which only holds a $25 pricetag and can be bought for PC, Win10, 360, XBone, PS4, iOS, and Android.

I just don't see this being successful but I hope I'm wrong and its something completely amazing that everyone should play. Dragon Quest deserves more love in the west.

To me this kinda seems like it might be an effort to help turn Dragon Quest into a household name in English regions.

Over the years Enix has made various efforts to push the brand hard in NA. Remember when each subscription to Nintendo Power came with a free copy of Dragon Warrior? And then more recently with all the big budget commercials for DQ 9...

The series obviously in not going anywhere, since it's so huge in JP, so it makes sense that they would want to capitalize on the huge markets outside of JP. It almost seems like they they simply said, "What's huge in NA"? Bingo... MineCraft. Then again, they might just be trying to snag up the Japanese players before Minecraft does...

They have a tendency of pushing the more recent games with a huge amount content, so I hope they include more than just Minecraft + RPG mod. Kinda of a catch 22 for me since a story mode would kill my desire to import it, but I really would like one.

None of that was Square-Enix. Nintendo purchased the rights to publish those Dragon Quest titles in North America. Square-Enix wants nothing to do with publishing anything Dragon Quest related in North America. Even the Playstation titles were published by Sony.

So its doubtful that suddenly Square-Enix has decided to invest all that money into making a game for western audiences when they haven't even bothered to localize a single DQ game or spin-off, ever, to my knowledge.

Also, Minecraft is already a "thing" in Japan.

Points taken, although I think what I was saying about catching the MC crowd in still stands, it's gearing up in JP, but it's not huge yet.

I guess saying they want the MC crowd is pretty obvious.

I hope it works out for them but I fear its just too late.
